COME TO THE COAST, WHERE ITS NICE AND COOL !

'Tide Watch' is the destination for anyone who wants to experience the true flavor of Maine!
A lovingly restored Ocean Summer Farmhouse . Experience the best that a Maine vacation has to offer. Open the door of a wonderful home which has all the modern amenities, but maintains the cozy feel of a farmhouse from long ago. The hardwood floors and comfortable furniture invite you to curl up with a good book or sit on the spacious deck overlooking the ocean with a million dollar view.

Step into a sunroom with a gas fireplace to have your morning coffee or take away the chill when the sun goes down.

The old fashioned sunlit kitchen has been beautifully renovated, to accommodate even the most accomplished chef, with hand tiled island, complete with a 5 burner gas stove, oven and dishwasher. While dinner simmers, retrieve your perfectly chilled wine and beverages from the wine cooler, to sit and watch the spectacular sunsets from the deck or NEW SCREENED ROOM. Adjacent to the kitchen is a large dining room with seating for six and is complete with a chandelier.

First floor also has a spacious master bedroom with full bathroom and shower, flat screen TV and its own private entrance.
Relax in the living room with a collection of lighthouses and watch a movie on the 52” HD TV with your own “home theater”!

Upstairs has a full bath with tub and shower. Four bedrooms appointed with comfortable beds, wonderful blankets and bed linens. Enjoy watching TV from both the queen bedrooms. Throw open the windows and listen to the crashing surf as it lulls you to sleep at night.

During the day, with the South West exposure, you and your family will enjoy the sun all day, while using the spacious grounds for rousing games of volleyball, badminton, croquet or just a old fashioned game of catch!
Listen to the wave’s crash on your own private beach. Descend the stairs and kayak, throw a Frisbee at low tide, or look for sea glass that has been washed ashore. Look for the seals basking in the sun on Gull Rock a few hundred yards from shore. As the eagles and sea gulls soar above, it is easy to feel as if you have moved to a different place in time……

In any season, on a clear night with over 1000 ft of shore front, and the Milky Way overhead, you will find yourself gazing at the sky, searching for the stars and planets you remembered as a child. Looking at the lighthouse beacon on one of the distant islands, you may find yourself wishing on a falling star.

Visitors here are only 40 minutes away from the West Quoody Head Lighthouse located in Lubec where guests can explore the lighthouse or hike the wonderful ocean trail.

The house is 1 1/2 hours from Bangor, 1½ hours from Bar Harbor, 4 hours from Portland, 5 1/2 hours from Boston, 11 hours from New York City, 45 minutes from Eastport, 40 minutes from Campobello Island, and 1 hour 15 minutes from St. Stephen, New Brunswick Canada.

Activities in the area include hiking trails at the Roque Bluffs State Park, along with its quarter mile oceanfront sandy beach and freshwater wading pond, which is stocked annually with brook trout and brown trout and can be fished for successfully right from shore. Close by are two golf courses in Roque Bluffs and in Jonesboro, guided sea kayaking trips with a company in Machias, Atlantic Puffin tours and spectacular coastal hiking trails out of Cutler harbor, antiquing in local fishing villages, viewing ancient Indian petrogyphs along the shoreline in nearby Machiasport, deep sea fishing tours from Eastport and ocean schooner sightseeing trips on the Sylvia Beal out of Eastport harbor and much more.

We are only 15 minutes from Machias with its shopping, restaurants, University pool and fitness center. There are also many featured hikes nearby including Cutler's Bold Coast and Western Head Trails as well as Great Wass Island's Nature Conservancy trails.

Tide Watch is a place to escape the stress and worries of daily life and imagine when times were simpler.

Tidewatch was available by utter serendipity after our family needed to escape our first, unexpectedly loud vacation rental. Lisa and Mike were so accommodating in every way, and Tidewatch was exactly what we needed: quiet, beautiful, close to town--but not too close--and right on the water. Normally, we use our rented vacation houses as a base to sight-see all over the area. While there is plenty to do and see in Down East Maine, including Campobello Island, whale watching, hiking, festivals, farms, and more, the only thing we regretted was not staying at the property more and enjoying the amazing tides that would uncover 100s of feet of ocean floor twice a day. My children spent hours exploring far into the cove when the tide was out without my having to be on top of them--safe, peaceful, beautiful and mesmerizing. Mike also maintains two extensive gardens filled with organic vegetables that he offers free to his guests. We dug up delicious, fresh potatoes for homemade french fries every night, as well as cooking up the carrots, peas, zucchini, cabbage and much more in the well equipped kitchen. Every evening, our family had a movie night on the large screen TV. Now that we are back in NYC, my husband and I reminisce often about our wonderful time in Maine and at Tidewatch. We can't wait to return.

We were a group of 8 who split our time between Acadia Nat. Park and Campobello & New Brunswick. It was the perfect location! This restored farm house has it all beginning with the most awesome view of the ocean. The kitchen has everything that you could ever need for cooking. Machias is about 8 miles away and is the home of Helen's, a wonderful family restaurant. Perfect when you don't want to cook. The owner is on the property and available to answer any questions. He has a row of adirondack chairs on the bluff overlooking the ocean with a fire pit close by. What a great place to sit and relax with a glass of wine at the end of an evert filled day. We loved this part of Maine with the old seaport towns such as Lubeck and Eastport. Campobello is a must and be sure to have "tea with Eleanor". Then there is Jasper Beach... I have never seen Jasper rocks or a beach like this... really fascinating. St. Andrews by the Sea in New Brunswick is quaint and charming. We happened to be there on a day when there was a farmers market in the square by the ocean. Acadia National Park is also wonderful and being able to visit both was pure pleasure. Don't past this gem up!

Owner response: Thank-You sooo much for taking the time to review TideWatch and what a great review. Just to be clear the owner is not on the property full-time, just an occasional week or two in the summer months for maintenance. We do have a full time property manager that is available when needed as well as someone who takes care of the vegetable gardens...Again, hope to see you in the future...Capt Mike

We spent our family-vacation week at Tidewatch, and found it to be an excellent choice for our family -- 5 adults and two grandchildren, ages 13 and 9 -- in a lovely location on a bluff overlooking an inlet from the Atlantic. A good bit of time was spent walking along the beach with our dog, often accompanied by the owner's friendly dog, and the children had a wonderful time, especially, digging in the sand. The house itself is well-maintained and offered many amenities, from the big-screen TVs, to the nice bedrooms, to the well-equipped kitchen. The owner, Mike, was most friendly and helpful, and we appreciated the produce from the garden and the many flowers around the house. Groceries and other needs are readily available in the nearby town of Machias, where was also the slightly-funky Fat Cat Restaurant, which has a great menu of pizza and similar items. We mostly spent the days at the property, but did take one day for an excurson to Machias Seal Island to see the puffins, and another afternoon to walk the Bold Coast Trail; many other attractions are available within driving distance. We would have no hesitation in recommending Tidewatch to any family lor group ooking for an excellent vacation location.

Our family (including two young children under age 8) had a fantastic vacation at Tidewatch. The house is very spacious and modern and has everything you could possibly need! The house was very clean, thoughtfully decorated with lovely local art, and was chock full of amenities - the owners thought of everything!!! The kids enjoyed exploring the beach and we loved the feeling of being away from it all -- no traffic, no tourists, no box stores or bland malls!! We visited the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine, Campobello Island in New Brunswick Canada, played on Jasper Beach, hiked in Acadia National Park's Schoodic Peninsula, took a coastal boat tour in Cutler, Maine, kayaked the Machias Bay, and visited the Saint Croix International Historic Site and Red's Beach in Calais. Everything was within a reasonable driving distance, and the drives were gorgeous and serene - beautiful rolling roads with gorgeous scenery and no mind-numbing traffic. The local chain grocery store in Machias was very well stocked with a wide range of organic foods and had everything the kids wanted. We also found some lovely baked goods and local gifts in Machias. We went on beautiful jogs from Tidewatch down to Roque Bluffs State Park. It was stunning to run down the road with the ocean on one side and a freshwater pond on the other watching a beautiful sunset. Almost too stunning to describe in words. We also really enjoyed many delicious lobster rolls, blueberry pie, and ice cream :) We had a fabulous time and would highly recommend this property to friends and relatives. The owners are very friendly and provided a great deal of very useful information for our visit. Tidewatch was wonderful!!

Our week was great. Mike and Lisa were always close by to help us in any way possible. There were six in our party and each of us had plenty of space. The home furnishings were outstanding. TV everywhere and the kitchen has everything one could ever need in the way of pots, pans, flatware. We said to each other "if there is something they don't have in this kitchen,, you probably don't need it." The view was wonderful. Chairs and campfire pit right on the water. Firewood provided. We were even encouraged to pick vegetables from the two gardens on the property. We would highly recommend this home for a great week in DownEast Maine. Location very good for travel to NB, Canada or to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Easy drives. Property was very clean and well maintained. Tom's restaurant, Bluebird Rest. and especially Helen's in Machias were all very good. Whale watching near Lubec, ME and in NB very good. August weather temps wonderful.

Tidewatch is an amazingly beautiful and restful vacation site. The most outstanding feature of this property is the panoramic views of Englishman Bay, which is actually in your backyard. A lush green lawn extends out to the bluffs and steps lead down to the beach. We are not kayakers, but could not imagine a better spot from which to launch if we were. Roque Bluffs is a true New England coastal town - very small and totally uncommercialized. There are many nearby places to see, and the drives to get to them take you along beautiful unspoiled coastline. The house itself is a seaside farmhouse, authentic and totally without the typical beachside kitsch that characterizes some houses. Instead, the look is of accumulated treasures that a familly fortunate to live by the sea would acquire over generations. The kitchen is equipped with all a guest could possibly require, and the sunny blue decor is delightful. My husband and I were travelling alone, so the only bed we slept on was in the master, and it was luxuriously comfortable, with the finest mattress, pillows, and linens. Everything was immaculately clean, without a stray speck of dust anywhere. Captain Mike, the owner, was on the property in a separate residence, and was very helpful and interesting to talk with, but never underfoot. While staying at Tidewatch, we travelled to Canada (St. Andrew, St. George and Campobello), Acadia National Park, Eastport, Lubec, and West Quoddy Head State Park. All were easily accessible for day trips, and well worth the visits. When at Tidewatch, we went into Machias to eat. Helen's has the most delicious haddock burgers and blueberry pie! I am already plotting how to get back to Tidewatch. I think I left a little piece of my heart there. ,

Tidewatch is an amazing piece of Maine. I feel like we have discovered a secret gem that few people know about. It is definitely worth the trip. I don't even know where to begin to describe how absolutely beautiful this place is. I'll start with the house: with 3 kids we need space & this house has plenty of space. There are windows everywhere - one of my favorite places was on the front enclosed porch w/ it's wall of windows. I could do some work while watching the garden grow & the birds & butterflies visit. The kitchen is big with plenty of counter space & every appliance you could need - even it's own wine cooler!! There's a washer & dryer right on the 1st floor - a necessity w/ 3 kids!!! It has a bedroom downstairs w/ it's own bathroom & shower - plus 4 bedrooms upstairs w/ a full bath. The deck is a great spot to watch the ocean change & the kids playing on the lawn. It has a fantastic firepit at the edge of the lawn overlooking the beach - great for toasting marshmallows while watching the stars come out. And the beach is ideal - especially if you have young children. My 20 month old could splash as much as she wanted w/o me worrying that she would be bowled over by a wave!!! It has great big rocks for exploring & even some soft sandy sections. You can explore for quite a ways on the shore. It even has it's own garden that you can help yourself to. The sweetpeas were delicious - my kids never seem to get enough of them but there were so many that they couldn't even eat them all!!! It's even within walking distance of the Roque Bluffs State park - an amazing place that it felt like our own personal state park. An ocean beach on one side of the road & cross the road & you can dip in the pond or fish or let the kids play on the playground or go for a great hike through the woods along the rocky shore. It was never crowded - even on the sunniest days. It's close enough to Canada for a day trip - we forgot our passports but will be bringing them this year. We have vacationed at different places on the Maine coast for the past 6 years & this is the only one we loved enough to return to. And that means a lot since to get there we have to endure 7 hours in the car w/ a toddler - who refuses to nap in the car!!!

I'm so glad we found your place in Down East Maine. We were looking for a quiet, relaxing place to get together with family. We found that and so much more! The house, the yard, the gardens, the beach, the water, the view - even the weather, conspired together to make this a wonderful experience we will not forget. Oh, and the beach! Did I mention the beach? From the 3 year old to the 71 year old - it's all about the beach!

Thank-you for opening up this truly beautiful home for others to enjoy. The View is spectacular, so peaceful and serene. Your home is so warm and inviting with all the comforts of home. Walking the Beach was always an adventure for the children to play on the rocks and swim when the tide was out. Every-thing was perfect !

What can be more perfect than an old farmhouse by the sea. We enjoyed the beautiful seascape and were never bored just watching the ebb and flow of the incredible tides. Our daughters spent many hours discovering the many things the Beach had to offer. Thank-you for such a memorable vacation !
