The Taos area is abundant with seasonal activities for the whole family. The Casita is located 1 mile west of the wonderful village of Arroyo Seco, 20 minutes north of Taos, 15 minutes from Taos Ski Valley which has some of the steepest and most challenging terrain in the country and where you can access trails to the highest point in the state. The ski valley has some of the most lush and cool creek side trails in the area and only a 15 minute drive from Arroyo Seco. This adorable Casita is lovingly furnished with Asian, African and Native American textiles, original artwork, and all the amenities to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. Cathedral ceilings and traditional vigas give this house a sense of spaciousness and New Mexico character.

Stroll the apple orchard, sip a margarita, a hot cocoa or some iced tea while watching the spectacular New Mexico sunsets on the front porch, or just relax after a day of skiing or hiking. Even at this time of year you can don a fleece jacket and take your coffee or tea to the back portal where you can watch the early morning light play across the mountains as the bunnies enjoy their breakfast. This home combines high quality amenities (such as a new comfortable mattress with organic cotton linens and memory foam topper) with family affordability. Whether exploring the town of Taos, the nearby beautiful mountain ranges, or some of the best skiing in the world, Casita Des Montes offers you a cozy, affordable, and accessible home away from home.

Rent the Casita and the 'Green' straw bale house right next door for family gatherings or for celebrations with friends and we will give you a special rate. See # 194842 for details about this property.

A caretaker lives on the property to help in any way or offer advice or information on all things in the area, from where to eat or shop, to the best hiking trails.

If you visit once, you'll want to come back again and again.

Staying at casita montes and straw house was such a lovely time in arroyo seco!!,wish we were there longer.so much to do but the accommodation is so nice and cozy that you can just stay indoors and have a great time.!,, really enjoyed the beautiful art at straw house ,the hot tub was a nice touch.we also have to commend linda who was an amazing host, had to wake her up late because we got lost and she was able to guide us with patience ,she was able to give us a lot of input on where to go hiking and made our Taos experience more memorable, highly recommend this place for a really a great vacation spot,!,,

We're a couple in our 60's who thoroughly enjoyed two summer months in the Casita, relishing the mild temperatures and cool nights of the 7,500 feet elevation, all the while enchanted by the astounding views of the surrounding Sangre De Cristo Mountains and 50 mile vistas over the Rio Grande valley. Walking our Cairn terrier down the nearby lanes, past handsome horses and newly-born foals grazing in the pastures, was always a treat. It was easy and fun to drive up to the Ski Valley for walks among the ponderosa and aspen in even cooler temperatures. We thoroughly explored the greater Taos area and its attractions, and while doing so we kept our eyes open for comparable or superior small rental homes we might want to consider for our visit to Taos next summer. There was NONE that even came close in terms of the panoramic views from the Casita, so we'll definitely return again next year. We made regular visits to Sabroso's restaurant which is only one mile away and easily the best among the many other good eating places we tried around Taos. As described in the VRBO listing, the Casita is fully equipped with everything needed for long visits like ours. Linda, the property manager who lives next door, is delightful, and knows exactly what is needed to make you feel like you are "home".

We stayed a month in sept and while we were looking for something more permanent just decided we werent gonna find anything any better in such a great location that we ended up leasing it the next five months. there is a beautiful view of the mountains from the living room window and little back patio where we grilled out alot and sat around and just checked out the scenery. this location is so serene--it has a really nice rustic but charming and quaint feel about it--very cosy. the casita was perfectly workable for the two of us during our stay--everything we needed was here, from hair dryer to soap to even a little storage out back for storing the few things we brought with us that we didnt want to clutter up the house with. this is a perfect location and space for single, couples, singles with kids or a couple with up to two kids to spend a weekend or longer --whether skiing (ten minutes to the ski valley--we didnt ski much but went up the to bavarian lodge many times for a stein of beer and some pretzels), hiking (lots of great trails and hikes nearby or just hoof it up to the little town of seco to eat like we did on numerous occasions--i spent a lot of nights up at Sabrosa's by the fire listening to live music on thursday and sundays, then enjoying the stroll back to the farm and casita) or just hanging out around the property and writing letters and playing games and cooking and watching movies. Linda, the caretaker of the property and homes, was a delight to deal with and informative (she turned us onto the williams lake hike which was great) and took very good care of us--very considerate and there when we needed her but otherwise not in our hair at all. We really appreciated the fact that after every snow our little walkway and door stoop was always clear! Within walking distance to seco town with a little grocery store, ABE's cantina and bar, another little bar and restaurant, taos cow ice cream shop, several shops and art galleries, and sabrosa's restaurant. 10 minutes to Taos and 10 to ski valley although we found after a while we hung out in seco more often than not. The entire property is fenced and entry is gated so if you have a dog then really works to let them out to run around a little. We were here six months and we never saw any other property or location where we said "oh, i wish we had rented that instead." this was really a great place for us and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The casita was warm and inviting. Everything we needed was available, and Linda's extra touches and hospitality were wonderful. As two ski enthusiasts, we found the casita had plenty of space for all of our equipment, a very convenient location, and a very reasonable price. Hopefully we'll be returning next season!

                  Year Purchased: 1985

About the owner: Welcome to Northern New Mexico! I am a licensed massage therapist specializing in Maya abdominal massage. I have two boys who love the activities available in Northern New Mexico.

Why the Owner Chose Arroyo Seco:
The Casita is on family property, passed down to me by my father who planted the orchard you will see as you enter the property.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our favorite things to do when we come to stay is to river raft, hike, and visit a most wonderful toy store in Taos called Twirl. Just relaxing and watching the marvelous sunsets is reason enough to visit as often as we can. I have made so many wonderful friends since my family discovered the Taos area in the early '70's and continue to visit and catch up with them each time we come back. And then there is that magical light on the mountains that is a source of constant wonderment and joy! I invite you to visit us at Casita des Montes and see what we mean!
