Our second visit at Hibiscus House. When we decided to come back to Maui this year, their was no hesitation in where our first week would be. From the new key less entry, to the inviting bed, clean condo, private lanai, heated swimming pool, beautiful sandy beach to swim with all the sea turtles, gorgeous grounds, great bbq area we were once again in heaven. Returning to Honula Bay to snorkel, Sea House for a yummy dinner and having breakfast outside in Lahaina at Aloha Mixed Plate were more of our favorites we enjoyed doing. Until we return again, we have a beautiful photo from the lanai over our desk at work reminding us of our Happy Place. The property was peaceful and relaxing. The property was well maintained and the staff on hand were very nice. We appreciated the ammenities available - beach chairs, beach towels, ice chest that made it easy for us to site see and enjoy maui beaches. The condo was very nice and comfortable. Nothing like feeling at home while on vacation. We enjoyed the property - great gardens, pool and bbq overlooking the beach.. The beach was very calm and great for swimming and just relaxing. Seeing the turtles on the beach every night was awesome. We'll definately be back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My girlfriend (who, after a few days in Maui, became my fiancée) and I loved our stay at the Hibiscus House. The property was as described. It's clean and well-equipped. The kitchen included a micro-convection oven, dishwasher, and stove top. (There is no traditional oven.) The condo also includes an HDTV, cable, blu-ray player, ipod compatible sound system, and wifi. There is no central air, but the bedroom has a window unit that sufficed, at least during our stay. The bed is comfortable. It has a 3-4" memory foam topper that makes it really nice. The laundry room is close, probably only 15 feet away. The unit also had some snorkel gear in it that can be used on the Kuleana beach to see turtles, of which there are plenty. The view from the lanai is as advertised. Be prepared to see some beautiful sunsets over the ocean. Overall the unit was clean and just right for a couple and probably okay for a small family. The grounds of the property (which is called the Kuleana Resort) are well-maintained and picturesque. The pool is large, clean, and never too busy. There are two easily accessible sandy beaches. They are sparsely visited, but nice, with an extended shallows that make it ideal for kids. Neither the pool nor the beach have lifeguards, if that's a consideration. If you want a busier beach, there are plenty to choose from nearby, including Kaanapali. One thing I loved about the Kuleana was that it felt private, but it wasn't too far from stuff to do. Lahaina city is only 15 minutes away. Whaler's Village is closer. Stuff on the other side of the island is a bit of a hike (Haleakala, Mama's Fish House, Paia, 'Iao Needle, the airport), but that just means you have to plan those trips better to maximize your time on the other side of the island. If you do stay at Hibiscus House, we recommend cheap dinners at Ohana or Ono tacos. Expensive dinners at Mama's Fish House. Get the Upside Down Pineapple Cake at Pineapple Grill (dinner was good there, too.) Star Noodle was delicious but had a wait. Pacific Whale Foundation's snorkel cruise leaving from Lahaina city was great. Ululani's Shave ice on Front Street is the best thing ever. Exercise fanatics should visit Lahaina Crossfit. The people there were great. I would definitely return to Hibiscus House. Ed, the owner, was very attentive, and the property was great. If you're looking for a place to stay, this is this is it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our first trip to Maui. The condo was clean, nicely laid out and the property was lovely. Nice extras such as hotel type shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Although we didn't have great weather - lots of rain showers - but, we got amazing rainbows... even a double rainbow one day. The kitchen is well equipped with everything necessary to be able to cook meals. The lanai was great to be able to sit out and enjoy our pupus and cocktails in the late afternoon. There were beach towels for us to take with us on our excursions as well as beach chairs. Our only complaint... We booked a "Road to Hana" tour through the transient condo "concierge" service. "Captain John" told the tour company that we were staying at the hotel that he was working at that day, so we waited at the roadside from 6:30 am to 7:15 waiting for our bus. We phoned the tour company and found out that the bus had waited for us at a different location and was already on the tour. So, our day long tour was no longer an option. I called Captain John and he was not apologetic in the least. He insisted that he booked the tour to pick us up from our condo, did not offer to find us something else to do that day, and said he'd check into it and get back to me about our refund. Two voice mails later, still hadn't heard from him. We did see a charge and refund on our Visa statement online. Because we are from Canada, we were charged $15 for fund conversion banking fees for those transactions from US to CDN dollars and back again. I would not recommend his services!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Dear Sue, So glad that you enjoyed the apartment and grounds. Sorry about your excursion experience. I am forwarding your comments on to the Kuleana Front Desk so that they may be aware of this situation. Ed ENG

Aloha, We just spent 8 glorious days in Maui in this Kuleana resort condo. The condo was lovely, spotlessly clean and had lots and lots of storage. Once we unpacked it was like living in our own home. Beds were incredibly comfortable and the pull out bed in the living room was blessed with the glorious sounds of the surf all night long. Although there is an air conditioner in the bedroom, we never used it. The first thing we did when we got there was open the sliding glass doors to the lanai and the back door - which provided a constant, flower scented breeze throughout our entire visit. While the condo is beautiful, the lanai and the front seat view of the ocean is stupendous! The grounds are luscious and meticulously groomed. The beach is quiet with beautiful rock outcroppings and soft white sand to rest and play on. Location was excellent and close to everything. We did the road to Hana in a day and the volcano in half a day. Lahaina with all of it's hassle and bustle was maybe 20 minutes and Kaanapali beach and Whalers Village with all of the resorts and mega people was even closer. While we enjoyed the restaurants, luaus, shopping, etc there - it was good to come back to the quiet of Kuleana each evening. I would highly recommend this condo. Ed was wonderful to deal with and we had no trouble adding an extra day. When we come back we will definitely stay here again. Bev and BillDid you find this review helpful? We also didn't spend too much time in the condo, but when we did, it was very comfortable and clean. We often fell asleep on the couch from exhaustion. :) We did figure out that if we pulled the screen down (out on the balcony) that it would help in keeping the condo cooler during the day. The beach located just a few steps away was perfect. Not too many people were there and the snorkeling around the area was a lot of fun. In case you are wondering, the owners have beach mats, chairs, an umbrella and a cooler located in the closet that was useful when we hung out on the beach. We saw a few sea turtles and of course, coral and fish. The condo is very centrally located; it only took us about 10 minutes to get to Lahaina and there are places to get food practically everywhere you go. I wish we didn't have to go home and would have loved to stay there longer. Thanks Ed for your great hospitality. :)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I didn't spend much time in the unit or at the property per se for I was up and gone early each day and usually didn't return until evening. I basically slept there and that was it so it's tough to provide a review that others may find useful. However, I will try. Overall, I liked this property. It fit my needs very well in terms of size and amenities. It is a better value than other properties I've stayed in in the area. The only minor negative thing I can think of is the lack of central A/C which I know is common for Maui and a property of this age. The one afternoon I actually was in the unit it got very warm in the main living room with the afternoon sun shining directly into the unit. The only A/C available is the small window unit in the bedroom. If you are a cold natured person then you shouldn't have any problems, but if you are warm natured, like me, you might find it uncomforatble for a couple of hours. With that said, I would stay there again, but maybe just at a different time of year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Don't Look any Further! We wanted to write something about our stay as soon as possible. I know when we were looking for places to stay, I really relied on the comments. The photos are actual what you get. The Hibiscus house is very clean, well taking care of, and each visitor takes time to write in the guest book, which has lovely memories of their stay, suggestions of what they did and where to eat, and the owners have requested you note any areas that need attention. Which you can tell are taking care of as needed. After spending a day out exploring it was always a treat to come home to such an inviting condo and breath taking view (s). Some of our highlights were snorkeling at Honolua Bay. Watching the numerous sea turtles in front of the condos, being lucky to see a large pod of 15 Humpback Whales on their jouney back North. A special romantic meal at the Sea House with John as our waiter, Buying Huli Huli chicken from the road side BBQ's on the weekends. Being able to BBQ at the waterfront at the condo. Having the beach towels, beach chairs, ice chest made planning a picnic so comfortable. We wished we would of stayed with you another week instead of our 2nd place we moved to. Thank you so much in sharing your home and we look forward to when we can visit with you again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We were extremely pleased with the Hibiscus house. This was the first time we'd ever rented a condo through a private party (we typically stay at resorts). Our experience far exceeded our expectations. The condo was exactly as described on the site. Finding the condo and check-in was easy, Location was perfect! Very quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed the extra amenities the condo had to offer. We definitely plan on returning and have already referred this condo to friends/family.Did you find this review helpful?
