My Fiance and I really enjoyed our stay here. The best part of this private guest house was the breathtaking views upon waking up in the morning. This place really is as the top of the mountain, which feels like the top of the world! You can see for miles, and sometimes we were actually looking down on the fog & clouds. We saw hummingbirds on our porch, wild turkey & deer in the yard. Our host was very accommodating, friendly, and an excellent concierge, which was a nice touch since we were new to the area. The place has everything you need & more. Would definitely recommend & stay here again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Ryan it was a pleasure to have you celebrate the special occasion at the guesthouse. All the best to you both in the future. Leland

A friend and I wanted a place to stay while we attended the Rolex Classic car races at Laguna Seca. We are highschool buddies and both seniors, so we can get picky. Well I hit the bullseye when I found this jewel. The views can be talked about but only experiencing them does justice. And, while it has all the features of a romantic get away, it was also very comfortable for two gents looking for a quiet place to stay after a day at the races. This treetop chalet had that and more. Leland is a gracious host and a wealth of knowlege. It is well appointed and I could see where a couple would love it. The only thing I can think I would add is a roman shade for the window as it does get quite well lit in the late afternoon. But that is minor compared to everything else. The convenience? We were 20 minutes away from Laguna Seca. I would recommend this chalet any month, no matter the weather. It is a jewel. Richard Andrews,Owner response: Thank you for your review. Glad your Laguna Seca races were so enjoyable. It was nice speaking with you both on the completion of a bucket list item. Keep completing the circuit on that list. Leland

We throughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful and tranquil cottage above the oaks. The accomodations lacked for nothing and were most comfortable. The location is remote enough to get away from the stress of urban life, yet provides easy access to the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel, Big Sur and surrounding areas. I will definitely come back again. I give it a 5 star rating.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We look forward to your next visit. So glad to hear that your 6 foot five inch frame was comfortable in the guesthouse bed. All the best, Leland

I had not visited the website showing this beautiful serene studio, and booked my stay to be during my daughters wedding festivities in Carmel Valley. I arrived not stressed, amazingly, and when I went upstairs to the room I was so surprised to see the views, and comfort of my lodging. The pictures are lovely, but to be there put me at peace, and I knew I had made a fortunate choice. Leeland, the owner, was so very kind and helpful to any of my needs, whether they be questions, or emotional support. The time spent with my daughter and family and friends during the weekend was delightful, and yet I admit to return to the studio was the release I desired, and absorbed. What a special place! The wedding was a joyful, wonderful event, etched in my memory, the stay at the studio also will be etched and thought of often, with a smile, and desire to return. Thankyou, Lee and Sheila, I will be returning.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It was a joy speaking with you Allison and so happy the wedding weekend was memorable. Look forward to spoiling you on your next visit. All the best, Leland

We came to Carmel Valley to enjoy a few days of relaxation and seclusion from the crowded south bay. We wanted to avoid the tourist filled coast, so we chose this Carmel Valley studio. The airy and private studio above the garage provided everything we needed make ourselves at home. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The luxurious large shower had double shower heads that made it possible for both of us to shower at once. The shower gel and soap is provided but bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. We planned on purchasing groceries and staying in as much as possible. I was glad It was easy to cook breakfast and dinner in the fully equipped kitchen. It was very clean and well stocked with nice dinnerware and glasses, just like home. The studio has a mini fridge for perishables. Delicious coffee beans and a grinder were provided for fresh coffee in the morning. The studio had windows all around and a L-shaped balcony. From there, we had great views of the mountains and comfy lounge chairs for laying in the sun or watching the misty sunrises. This is a very peaceful place for relaxing. Leland, the host was so helpful in sharing reviews for the local eating places and wineries. He also provides a large selection of info about things to do in the Carmel area. We enjoyed fruit and cheese, with superb wine from Sinnet. We went on an early morning hike through Garland Ranch, which has many trails that offer easy hiking. For lunch we eat at the Corkscrew Bistro, which is a real cute casual place with patio dining. We have T-Mobile so our cell phones were not always working, but we did have internet access, and Leland lent us his land line for emergency calls. Our host was so gracious and accommodating during our stay. Thank you for providing so many extra special touches to our visit!Owner response: Thank you for your comments. They are appreciated. It was very nice meeting you both and seeing you enjoy yourselves. Glad you had good meals, wines, hikes and sunsets. Leland and Sheila

My husband and I stayed at this guesthouse for 2 nights. It was everything we expected and more. It was the most peaceful place we have ever stayed. The views from the deck were amazing! We enjoyed drinking the wine that we had purchased at a nearby winery while playing bocce ball. At night, we enjoyed looking at the stars from the lounge chairs on the deck. We drove along the Big Sur area one day and it was beautiful! It was a very convenient drive from this guesthouse. The owner was very helpful, but also gave us our privacy. I would highly recommend this place and would love to come back and stay there again sometime!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Kerry and Sherri, We are so happy your stay was memorable. Hope you have been practicing your bocce ball techniques. All the very best, Leland and Sheila

I wish we had more time to stay at this peaceful place above the trees. The views are spectacular and Leland was so nice and very helpful on places to see and restaurants. The unit was clean, comfortable and exactly as shown in the pictures. Everything we needed was right there for us. We had a great time playing bocce ball in the evenings and saw many hummingbirds and even a bobcat. It was a wonderful vacation and we will try and stay here again on future trips.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Annie and Larry, Thank you for your kind words. Today I stepped outside our backdoor to a beautiful king snake. So happy you could have a glance at a bobcat during your visit. All the best, Leland

My friend and I stayed in this guest house for three nights recently and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The views are spectacular, the guest house is immaculate, and the bed is so comfortable we slept like babies. What more could you want? I know, you could want more, and this place has it. There are many great restaurants in the area along with beautiful places to walk/hike. But once you're on this hilltop you might not want to leave. This guest house is thoughtfully decorated and has everything you need for an extended stay. I could easily live in it. There were nice little personal touches--a flower in a little vase here or there. There's a sense of harmony here and you leave feeling both rested and invigorated. Also, the owners are very friendly and accommodating. All you have to do is show up and enjoy yourself.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My friend and I stayed recently in this charming guest house and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The views are breathtaking, the place is immaculate, and the bed is so comfy I slept like a baby. What more could you want? I know, you could want more, and this place has it. This guest house is tastefully decorated and has everything you would need for an extended stay. I could easily live in it. The ambience is unlike anyplace else I've ever stayed. There's a sense of harmony that's hard to define and you leave feeling rested and invigorated at the same time. I'll return as soon as I get another chance. By the way, the owners are friendly, accommodating and pay attention to tiny details that make your stay more memorable (flowers in tiny vases, etc.). Really lovely. All you have to do is show up and appreciate it all.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wind your way up to the top of the ridge overlooking Carmel Valley and beyond to enjoy sunrises, sunsets, stars, birds, and the flow of the valley fog. We stayed in this pretty, colorful studio for Labor Day, then again for New Year's Eve. - It's really one large, well-appointed room, surrounded by stunning views. It's a peaceful and comfortable place, and the owners are great hosts who respect your privacy while providing nice touches for your stay. In town, try "Toast," "The Corkscrew," and Georis Winery, or make your way to Nepenthe in Big Sur. - Can't wait to go again when the hills are green and the wildflowers are blooming.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It was a pleasure serving you during your stay. We are very pleased that everything was comfortable and your stay was memorable. Leland and Sheila

If you are looking for quite, well appointed, bungalow perched in the treetops on top of a mountain with some of the most amazing CA views (and wildlife) in all directions and spectacular star filled skies at night, this is the spot. The views really are astounding. This bungalow looks out to the backside of the mountains John Steinbeck described as the "seven hills of heaven" (in the "Pastures of Heaven") and he was not exaggerating. The owners have been in the area for 30 years and are wonderful guides. I cannot wait to go back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our getaway anniversary weekend in Carmel Valley. The entire experience was positive from the moment we made our reservations (which was graciously accepted with less than 24 hours before our arrival). We really appreciated the warm, tasteful decor, and the attention to detail. There were fresh flowers for us in the suite, and gourmet coffee, teas, and spices for us to enjoy. The view from the room and the deck are mesmerizing. We spent quite a bit of time out on the deck, enjoying the view. We are long-time bocce players, and had a lot of fun on the well-groomed court. We went out to dinner one night in Carmel Valley (Great dinner at Cafe Rustica), and took a nice drive along the coast all the way to Big Sur, before spending our second afternoon and evening back at our little getaway on top of the hill. Lelend and Sheila seem to really enjoy hosting others at their wonderful retreat. We couldn't have felt more welcomed!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Steve and Jill, Thank you for your kind words. We enjoyed having you celebrate your anniversary at the guesthouse. Hoping you have decades more of anniversary celebrations. Leland and Sheila

My husband and I stayed here for 9 days in early June, and we had a wonderful time. The guesthouse is cozy and comfortable, and the views are spectacular. We stayed in for dinner several nights, cooking a meal in the kitchen, and enjoying it with a glass of wine, while watching the hawks soar overhead, and listening to the many birds in the trees right outside the guesthouse. It is close to the village, and a great place to base yourselves for day trips in the area. We will return!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed several times in 2011, and found the lodgings to be even lovelier than the pictures! Set high above the surrounding properties, the 360 degree stellar views are breathtaking; the nights are full of stars, and the sunsets are spectacular. The accommodations are quite ample, clean, cozy and cheerily inviting. The owners were a wealth of information about the area, sightseeing, directions, etc. We highly recommend "Jeffreys" for yummy breakfasts---everything fresh and flavorful. Though close to the Village and an easy drive to Carmel and Monterey, we found our time at TreeTops just relaxing on the balcony, reading, enjoying a glass of wine, to be amazingly calming and refreshing. The Bocce Ball Court was quite fun as well. The landscaping in summer is full and lush and the myriad numbers and types of birds totally added to the experience. Nature at her finest! Like us, you may find that one visit is just not enough!!! We highly recommend this lodging.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent Labor Day weekend here and couldn't have asked for more peaceful setting. We were on top of the hill above the trees. To be able to hear wild pigs, coyotes, birds, the wind and silence was the getaway we both needed. We took our time to have coffee and breakfast because you didn't want to leave the view. If you are able to get out of bed early enough you'll see the valley full of fog. We never went out to dinner because the sunsets were just as spectacular. We rushed home after our wine tastings to only continue sampling what we had purchased and enjoy our cottage cooked meals with a view. You'll have a hard time wanting to go to bed since the stars, shooting stars and satellites will keep you gazing upward. We viewed the milky way horizon to horizon! I'll be back when the fields are in bloom :) Thank you sir for sharing your home. See you soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were enchanted with this top-of-the-trees getaway- a tree fort for adults. We woke up to a morning view toward the Pacific Ocean and Carmel of a valley filled with fog, and watched it roll out. A perfect place for quiet, very close to Carmel Valley Village and only 20 minutes to Carmel and Monterrey. Our gracious hosts were wonderful with answers and suggestions. We can't recommend this vacation getaway highly enough.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My recent stay at this hilltop retreat was so magical that I can’t wait to return! From the time I arrived until the moment I left, I was enchanted. The photos are certainly accurate and inviting, but attractive as they are, they just could not fully prepare me for the incredible beauty and peace of the property or the charming, oh-so comfortable and beautifully appointed interior. While I had planned lots of activities for my stay, coming back to this “nest" was almost the best part of the day! Wide expanses of windows surround you with absolutely incredible views and skies that are an ever changing panorama of magnificence. I looked forward to awaking to that view every day I was there! The owners were caring and thoughtful and had anticipated my needs, yet the guest house is a wonderfully private retreat. I am already trying to plan for another stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

A lovely, open and spacious feeling aerie full of windows and light, vast views, soaring hawks. Fresh, clean, everything you need is there. Glorious to fall asleep to the firelight of the wood stove . Perched up on the second floor - no need for curtains. A wraparound deck. Peaceful, wonderful place to write. This is a lovely, isolated escape set in the beautiful Northern California countryside. The rental is peaceful and the view is beautiful — oak trees, manzanitas, rolling hills in the distance. With all of these rural advantages, you're still less than 20 minutes away from a good selection of shopping and restaurants in Carmel Valley. We love this place!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My daughter and I were ecstatic to find this little hideaway deep in the Carmel Valley. It was just as described and fit our stay perfectly. It was very clean, cozy, and quiet, and the bed was comfortable with wonderful pillows and duvet. The views are gorgeous, our room was nice and warm--the wood burning fireplace was on when we arrived, and we were made very welcome. The owners are experienced in taking care of guests and answered and anticipated our questions thoughtfully and fully. With so much to see in Carmel Valley (we enjoyed the nearby wineries), it was at times hard to leave our aerie high up on the hill. This was a great find, and we will be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
