Nice Condo but questionable management
Nice Condo but questionable management
Our family stayed at the condo for a few days over Christmas Break. Pros: Close to the slopes, easy to get into, good parking, heated ski storage, comfortable besides the issues noted below, and slept 2 adults and 3 children very comfortable. Cons: Condo smelled like gas upon entry. Instead of calling 911 *in hindsight we should have evacuated the condo - it was THAT bad* we called the management company. They acknowledged the smell and said they were in earlier in the day and the fireplace pilot light went out and that we should just open doors. I was quite surprised as I couldn't figure out if this was all it took to clear the air then why didn't the property management company do this, after all they are paid right? The smell was VERY strong. We couldn't use the fireplace because the smell would return if we did (note the fireplace was on when we arrived). Next, the water, our welcome book explained that the water may smell like rotten eggs at first so we needed to run it for 5 minutes. The reality - is that it STUNK the whole condo up and you had to run the water for 20-25 minutes before the smell in the water went away. We had to purchase jugs of water as I couldn't bring myself to have my family drink water that smelled like rotten eggs. Fortunately, after performing this maintenance water didn't smell as bad. Again, not sure why the property management company who is paid to manage the property couldn't have completed this task. We also had an issue with the wireless. Dealing with these issues did require us to call the management company. It seems as if there are a couple of brothers, one was very helpful but the other was rude, arrogant, and condescending. The only other issue I had was the quality of the linens. I don't have many requirements, but the linens were extremely thin and had little balls of lint stuck everywhere (I took pictures.). I would recommend bringing your own sheets for the beds. Overall, I know we will return to Angel Fire ski area and rent a condo again but I will certainly make every effort it to rent one managed by a different company.

Manager response: Dear Family, First, I want to apologize for any rudeness received from any employee representing our property management company. We are in the service industry when providing accommodations at a ski resort and always put the customer first. I have asked them to respond to your review and have attached it below. Next, I want to explain the foul water smell at Angelfire. That is something that occurs all over Angelfire due to sediment in the water. The solution is to run the water until the smell has gone. The suggestion to run it for 5 minutes is obviously inadequate when the unit has been vacant for some time. We will adjust that figure in the condo notebook. We are unsure about the propane. We had it serviced by a professional technician and have instructed our management company to NOT light the fireplace, but to make sure the pilot light is on in anticipation of guest arrival. We appreciate the feedback since we strive to provide first class accommodations and need to know what our guest's experience actually is. To that end, we will provide our home number in the unit notebook and will strive to contact all groups after check in to make sure everything is satisfactory. We, both owners and management company, are working to provide the best guest experience possible. Thank you for your feedback and please read the managements' response as well. Sincerely, The (Owners) Dear Carolyn and James, I am writing in response to the guest review you forwarded to me. First off, if myself or any of my associates came across as rude to the guests, we wish to apologize for that. Sometimes the Holidays can get hectic, and it might seem we are in a hurry. In regards to the items the reviewer listed, we did run the hot water, and we did pre-light the fireplace before their arrival. In regards to the sulfur smell from the hot water, this is a common problem with Angel Fire water as it is very hard. We thought we had the smell cleared out, but we have had this issue before. We did explain that it is harmless as all water in Angel Fire must meet public safety standards, and actually exceeds them. We have also noted that the older the water heater the more we see this problem. Regarding the fireplace, we did light it in advance of their arrival, and left it set at 70 degrees. All the fireplaces at Snowfire do seem to give off a slight gas odor when first lit. We have had the fireplace inspected, and everything is fine. Additionally we hav

This is a very nice, clean condo with a great location. Unit is very convenient to all Angel Fire has to offer; ski lifts, shopping, dining, hiking trails, golf and tennis... Easy parking and ground floor access is perfect. It's hard enough traveling from sea level to 8600 feet and trying to get around without having to climb up 2 or 3 flights of stairs everytime you need to run an errand or go out for the next adventure. This was our second stay at this unit and I wish we were still there!

So much potential, but......
So much potential, but......
This condo has a lot of potential, unfortunately, it is not kept very clean. Cobwebs, dirt, and dog hair were abundant. And when we let the leasing company know about the issues, we were told the owner had just been there with their dogs which was why there was dog hair. And dirt? Couldn't be, because he had personally watched them clean the floors. They did not offer an I'm sorry, nothing but putting the blame else where. Upon my return, I emailed the owner to let them know that their condo was dirty and that their leasing company was essentially blaming them. I also let them know that my trip was designed for my mother who has stage IV lung cancer and wanted to go back to the mountains which held fond memories. Now, the memory is marred by the less than cleanly living conditions that I unknowingly arranged for her. I copied both the leasing company and the owner on my email. Neither responded. Not an "I'm sorry" or "we will check into it". Nothing. I would not recommend this condo based on 1) the dirt and dog hair, 2) owner's lack of response/ leasing company's defensive "the owner did it" attitude, and 3) complete disregard for customers.

Manager response: First, let us say that we are sorry for the poor state of your mother's health. However, we question the wisdom of taking someone with stage 4 lung cancer to an elevation of 8,600 feet above sea level and expecting them to be able to breathe well, if at all. We do have dogs, and we love them, and we know others who have dogs and love them and want to be able to take them along on vacation. Our property management company works hard to set up our unit for each guest and after your complaint, they purchased a special pet hair removal attachment for their vacuum. We were the occupants prior to your stay and know that the unit was left clean but not sterile. We have a yellow lab and an Australian shepherd that are wonderful members of our family. In fact, Sammi, the lab is a registered Therapy Dog that is allowed in schools, hospitals, libraries and nursing homes. They are well behaved and clean-more so than many children (or adults). We know that you will not be back to our condo but wonder whether your expectations for the stay at our place was realistic to begin with. You probably chose our condo because it is handicap accessible and we are glad to offer such a unit but we are equally happy to allow other pet owners to bring their beloved animals along. According to our management company, you did not voice any complaint until you were checking out so they were never given a chance to improve your stay. While we offer a pet friendly, handicap accessible vacation spot, it is not a hospital or nursing home.
