Beaufort cabin description

Located in the heart of Beauforts National Historic Landmark District. This fully restored ca. 1820 guest house is part of a complex that includes ca. 1790 main house, green house and carriage house, all tucked into a fenced 1 acre parcel. The property has been the subject of numerous publications to include Traditional Home Magazine, Coastal Living, South Carolina Home and 2 episodes of House And Garden TV.

Sensitively restored, it has a full kitchen and bath. In addition to the single bedroom there is a loft with double futon. equiped with WIFI and IPHONE dock. I rented this cottage for the first three weeks of February 2014. The cottage is set in a quiet corner of the large garden of one of the beautiful older houses in the historic district, and it has everything needed for a pleasant stay. It was nice to be able to have a fire when the weather turned cold, but most of the time it was sunny and warm. I particularly appreciated the peace and quiet, which made for a very restful stay. The cottage has a shady front porch that catches the breeze, and I spent many happy hours on the swing seat there, reading and writing or just enjoying the view of moss draped trees and the sounds of birds. I was pleased that my dog was also welcome - she could play with Michael's two friendly golden retrievers, and Petey the cat. When I wanted to go out without her, she was quite content to wait for me (and chase squirrels) in the large fenced garden, and Michael was kind enough to offer to let her in and out as needed. It is a pretty five block walk along quiet tree lined streets to the shops and restaurants of Bay Street, and the beautiful riverfront park beyond. It is also an easy drive to Savannah or Charleston - both worth a visit but I think better appreciated when you can then return home to the tranquility of this lovely spot in charming Beaufort.

A wonderful spot in a wonderful city, the cottage has all the amenities of home along with the privacy of a secret getaway - all within a few minutes walk to the Beaufort waterfront. Sublimely comfortable for a couple, it is comfortable with separate bedroom, bathroom with excellent shower, kitchen, and fireplaced living room. Michael as furnished the cottage with cozy and interesting furnishings, down to the rugs on the floor, antiques prints and maps on the walls, and books and magazines - not to mention fast WiFi and cable TV. The fact that it is both pet friendly, and has wonderfully friendly pets (goldens Trevor and Kegan) living there, was a bonus for us. We spent a busy week here while house hunting in Beaufort, and looked forward to returning, to relax on the porch or around the wonderfully landscaped yard (with greenhouse and bonsai), each night. We'll surely come and stay next when in Beaufort - thanks again Michael!

We recently rented this fabulous little cottage in the heart of Beaufort's historic district. Sharing the wonderful grounds and gardens of the antebellum main house, it is truly a little gem providing all the amenities we needed for a 10 day stay, along with the charm of a reconstructed low country cottage. Furnished with many of the owner's antiques, it offers very comfortable accommodations (a great four poster bed!) with a fully equipped kitchen and large bath with shower; WiFi, a stereo for your iTunes and an HD TV. We ate out each night of our stay and found a bounty of great, downtown Beaufort restaurants at many price points. All were a quick and convenient walk from the cottage. The owner, Michael, was a wonderful and accommodating host ensuring we had everything we needed during our stay - including a spiffy English umbrella for a rainy night's walk into town. His two, rescued, golden retrievers greeted us each morning with rapidly wagging tails and willingly shared their tennis balls with our golden. Ask Michael for the article called "Golden Moments," so you can read about Keegan's heart-wrenching rescue and rehabilitation by Michael. You'll find yourself giving Keegan and extra big hug! Mornings would begin with freshly brewed coffee on the front porch watching the sun's early light dapple the trees while our golden enjoyed his daily morning romp. We'd spend our days at Hunting Island's magnificent beach (dogs allowed), or exploring Beaufort's lovely historic homes, and return to the cottage to have cocktails on the porch watching the dogs chase tennis balls around the large, enclosed manicured grounds. Although the cottage is small, it is perfect for two adults and a golden retriever to enjoy its charms and the wonderful town of Beaufort. Thank you Michael for sharing your wonderful retreat and hospitality with us and Holden!

We really enjoyed our stay in the guest house. Property owner Mike, was friendly, very easy going, and most accommodating. He even let Chloe (our dachshund) out to play with him and his dogs (Trevor and Kegan) one day, when he heard her whining from the cottage while we were out to lunch. The location and overall appearance of the guest house were very true to the description and pictures on the site. Situated in the historic section of the downtown area of Beaufort, we were able to walk to the waterfront park, shopping and restaurants daily. The grounds were meticulously kept and quite impressive. The park-like surrounding property was shady and so became a cool reprieve from the hot sun, when we returned to rest, or hang during the heat of the days. The variety of plants and blooming flowers that bordered the property were incredible. The cottage itself was inviting, and the atmosphere was relaxing; its history which Mike shared with us, and scrapbooks in the cottage also documented its story really added to the whole experience. We had everything we needed; the place was quaint, yet was well stocked with all of the modern conveniences and Mike checked on us throughout the week to make sure there wasn't anything else we needed. Trevor checked in on Chloe, and us as well too! We hope to return next year!

We stayed at this great little cottage for 3 weeks in April - 2 adults accompanied by our Golden Retriever. The accommodation is small, but has everything that you need, and it is situated in the beautiful mature gardens of a historic antebellum house just a few short blocks away from the Beaufort waterfront. The gardens are enclosed, which is wonderful for dog owners and our host, Michael, and his two four-legged pals, Golden Retrievers Trevor and Keegan, could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Your are quickly made to feel part of the family. Michael even offered to look after our dog on the days that we wanted to visit the cities of Savannah and Charleston! Beaufort itself is a charming, beautiful town which oozes character and history. Its centre, with lots of shops and restaurants, and its historic area is compact and within walking distance of this accomodation. We had many evenings on the front porch, with a glass of wine in hand, listening to the birds and watching our dog, Bailey, playing with her 2 new 'boyfriends'!

Beaufort is a town where people instinctively smile at you and hospitality is as genuine as being welcomed to the home of an old friend. No one typifies this attitude more than Mike and his trusted canine companions, Trevor and Keegan. Be aware however - those dogs are not to be trusted! They will steal your heart and romp away across the lawns with it like one of their puppy toys. Home is where you make it and we sank into the comfort of this low country atmosphere like a warm bath - contentment pushing all of our northern concerns aside while we soaked in the warmth of South Carolina - in January! The antique furnished cabin is a bit on the rustic side in keeping with its history but it boasts modern facilities, a porch that allows you to contemplate life from a different dimension, gardens that are a gift of nature even in the dead of winter and a fireplace that defines the meaning of the word hearth. It is walking distance to everything and through some strange magic, Mike seems to know every good restaurant in the area. Ask him - he will be replenishing your firewood every late afternoon with a kind of nonchalant graciousness that is infectious. We are only sharing this gem with you because we have our permanent reservations in place for that time in the year when staying in the ice for any longer would surely lead to permanent gloom. Follow us if you will, but at your own risk - leaving is only possible by promising yourself that you will be back next year.

I spent a week at this great little cottage behind Michael and Trevor's home. Trevor, the most awesome golden retriever, was great company for my greyhound. He even spent nights with us in the cozy little cottage and helped us heal from the loss of our portuguese water dog. Thank you, Michael for sharing your amazing golden! We enjoyed running on the beach, walking the streets of Beaufort and spending time with Michael, Trevor and their friend Milton. Milton makes a mean steak and loves to take people on motorcycle rides - FUN! I now have friends in Beaufort, they have friends in Miami!!! Thanks for a great week!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I just had one of the most relaxing weeks we have ever had staying in this idyllic little cottage. We have stayed in beautiful Inns in Beaufort, but nothing compares to the sense of home that you get in this storybook cottage and property. It was peaceful, relaxing, convenient to all of the downtown amenities and beautiful neighborhood walks. After losing our Golden a year ago, Trevor (the dog) was the perfect co-host and was a welcome friend to hang by the fireplace at night and sit out on the porch with us. (Very sweet and well mannered). Michael (our host) made sure we had fire wood and kindling on the nights that were appropriate to light a fire as well as beautiful flowers on the table when we arrived. He is a very nice person and we very much appreciated his hospitality. He has an eye for comfort and has the cottage appointed with very comfortable (not stuffy) antiques and curiosity items. I can't say enough about the relaxation quality of this charming property and I am also very happy to have made two new friends in Beaufort.

We stayed for a week of relaxation and scenery. It was more than we expected. The host was kind and accessible without hovering. The location is great and restaurants, shopping and sights are within an easy (flat) walk or bicycle ride. Additionally, the town is very friendly and welcoming. We will be back for another visit soon.

This was one of the most relaxing weeks my wife, dog and I have ever spent. Mornings on the beautiful beaches at Hunting State Park, incredible shrimp at Nippy's for lunch followed by a relaxing stroll around Downtown Beaufort's historic district and shops, and quiet evenings in Michael's charming back yard was our typical day. Side trips to Savannah and Charleston are very convenient from this central location as well. The cottage itself felt like home after the first day. It has all the essentials for a great price. You can't find a more laid back atmosphere or a better value. Off the beaten trail but very conveniently located. It was a great week. An exceptionally accommodating host. Thanks to Michael and Trevor (his friendly Golden Retriever) for making us feel at home. We've already booked two weeks for next summer!
