Located in the heart of Beauforts National Historic Landmark District. This fully restored ca. 1820 guest house is part of a complex that includes ca. 1790 main house, green house and carriage house, all tucked into a fenced 1 acre parcel. The property has been the subject of numerous publications to include Traditional Home Magazine, Coastal Living, South Carolina Home and 2 episodes of House And Garden TV.
Sensitively restored, it has a full kitchen and bath. In addition to the single bedroom there is a loft with double futon. equiped with WIFI and IPHONE dock. Ideally located on a quiet side street you are only a five minute walk from downtown shopping, dining and waterfront park. I have a very friendly Golden Retriever and with the large fenced yard welcome well behaved pets.

Beaufort is a town where people instinctively smile at you and hospitality is as genuine as being welcomed to the home of an old friend. No one typifies this attitude more than Mike and his trusted canine companions, Trevor and Keegan. Be aware however - those dogs are not to be trusted! They will steal your heart and romp away across the lawns with it like one of their puppy toys. Home is where you make it and we sank into the comfort of this low country atmosphere like a warm bath - contentment pushing all of our northern concerns aside while we soaked in the warmth of South Carolina - in January! The antique furnished cabin is a bit on the rustic side in keeping with its history but it boasts modern facilities, a porch that allows you to contemplate life from a different dimension, gardens that are a gift of nature even in the dead of winter and a fireplace that defines the meaning of the word hearth. It is walking distance to everything and through some strange magic, Mike seems to know every good restaurant in the area. Ask him - he will be replenishing your firewood every late afternoon with a kind of nonchalant graciousness that is infectious. We are only sharing this gem with you because we have our permanent reservations in place for that time in the year when staying in the ice for any longer would surely lead to permanent gloom. Follow us if you will, but at your own risk - leaving is only possible by promising yourself that you will be back next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I spent a week at this great little cottage behind Michael and Trevor's home. Trevor, the most awesome golden retriever, was great company for my greyhound. He even spent nights with us in the cozy little cottage and helped us heal from the loss of our portuguese water dog. Thank you, Michael for sharing your amazing golden! We enjoyed running on the beach, walking the streets of Beaufort and spending time with Michael, Trevor and their friend Milton. Milton makes a mean steak and loves to take people on motorcycle rides - FUN! I now have friends in Beaufort, they have friends in Miami!!! Thanks for a great week!!!!!!!!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

My husband and I just had one of the most relaxing weeks we have ever had staying in this idyllic little cottage. We have stayed in beautiful Inns in Beaufort, but nothing compares to the sense of home that you get in this storybook cottage and property. It was peaceful, relaxing, convenient to all of the downtown amenities and beautiful neighborhood walks. After losing our Golden a year ago, Trevor (the dog) was the perfect co-host and was a welcome friend to hang by the fireplace at night and sit out on the porch with us. (Very sweet and well mannered). Michael (our host) made sure we had fire wood and kindling on the nights that were appropriate to light a fire as well as beautiful flowers on the table when we arrived. He is a very nice person and we very much appreciated his hospitality. He has an eye for comfort and has the cottage appointed with very comfortable (not stuffy) antiques and curiosity items. I can't say enough about the relaxation quality of this charming property and I am also very happy to have made two new friends in Beaufort.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We stayed for a week of relaxation and scenery. It was more than we expected. The host was kind and accessible without hovering. The location is great and restaurants, shopping and sights are within an easy (flat) walk or bicycle ride. Additionally, the town is very friendly and welcoming. We will be back for another visit soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

This was one of the most relaxing weeks my wife, dog and I have ever spent. Mornings on the beautiful beaches at Hunting State Park, incredible shrimp at Nippy's for lunch followed by a relaxing stroll around Downtown Beaufort's historic district and shops, and quiet evenings in Michael's charming back yard was our typical day. Side trips to Savannah and Charleston are very convenient from this central location as well. The cottage itself felt like home after the first day. It has all the essentials for a great price. You can't find a more laid back atmosphere or a better value. Off the beaten trail but very conveniently located. It was a great week. An exceptionally accommodating host. Thanks to Michael and Trevor (his friendly Golden Retriever) for making us feel at home. We've already booked two weeks for next summer!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, age 55+, sightseeing.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at this quaint guest house in Beaufort during the winter. We were greeted by Trevor, the golden retriever, who welcomed my two little Yorkies, as if they were long lost friends. The house is beautifully appointed and equipped, and if you needed anything Michael was more than accomadating. On chilly evenings, we would sit by the fire, during the day we would sit on the front porch and watch the dogs play, the birds and the lovely grounds. We were able to walk to the shopping district as well as tour some of the historic sites. I would highly recommend this wonderful guest house. P.S.-Trevor loves Milkbones.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, age 55+, sightseeing.

I travel almost exclusively to VRBO properties and can honestly say I have never been disappointed! This darling cottage has it all and more...historic accomodations and an in-town, but serene setting. Your host and is four-legged companion are very helpful "neighbors". This would be an ideal honeymoon or anniversary stay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

This little house is still calling my name. This was my second visit to the cottage, and it certainly won't be my last. We absolutely love to sit on the porch, enjoy the beautiful grounds, watch and listen to the birds -- ah, such peace! You'll never find better hosts than Michael and Trevor (Michael's golden retriever). If you plan to visit beautiful Beaufort, this is the place to stay!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

We recently returned from one of the best vacations we have ever had. We stayed at this little cottage; it is not only beautifully appointed, charming, well-maintained, and comfortable, it occupies a quiet corner of a beautifully kept grounds. Downtown Beaufort is a few blocks away as is the "uptown" historic distric along the river. Short drives will get you to a lovely local beach. Savannha is an easy ride along lazy state highways. Our host was friendly, accomodating, welcoming. This property is accurately described herein, the price is right, but the pictures don't quite do it justice--you can't hear the birds singing, smell the flowers or feel the warm breezes. We hope to return next year and recommend it to anyone looking for a retreat that will alter your reality even just a little.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

This guest house is so comfortable, we were reluctant to leave. It is surrounded by "green" and very private. Just a short walk to downtown or the historic Point neighborhood. We brought our dog with us and she probably had just as much fun as we did - maybe more. She and the resident Golden Retriever became good friends and enjoyed hours playing in the fenced in yard (a major plus!). We are looking forward to a return visit soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, age 55+, sightseeing.
