Romantic, 5 Star Luxury, 25' from the Ocean! Tranquil Bliss...

** The construction mentioned in one of the reviews was finished in January and things are back to normal. **
The beautiful pacific ocean is 25 ft away from your lanai! Listen to the waves and see the stunning views of Lanai and Molokai. During whale season, you can see whales all day long. The condo itself is designed as something I would expect from an upscale Maui resort. So it's very well appointed and very comfortable. A vacation condo should feel like home and somewhere you look forward to returning to.
Check out the beautiful, new shower! Finally got around to remodeling the shower and it came out amazing. All slate, river rock, and quartzite. There's also an Alsons shower head that provides a 'rain' effect or more traditional water flow. I'm stoked about it and you will be too. :-)
I keep my calendar updated. If it says condo is available, it is. I know it's frustrating when you see an available condo and it's just due to folks not updating their calendars.
Key Amenities: A/C, new high-end mattress, 600 thread count linens, free reserved parking, wired/wireless internet, flat screen TV, remodeled kitchen, newly remodeled shower, and lots of small amenities like a hair dryer in the bathroom and juicer in the kitchen.
Check out the Google Map below with some great recommendations for eating and activities. See the video for the view off of the lanai.
My name is Jim Tierney and I recently purchased this condo to live in 3 months of the year. I recently finished remodeling it and it came out beautifully. Since I'll be living in it, the remodel was necessary to make it someplace I'd want to stay. So this is not a normal rental unit where everything was done on the cheap! I love the Westin and their Heavenly Bed, so that was my target in creating the space (minus all the noise and timeshare sales pitches :-).
I figure there's two things people want from a Maui vacation... 1) to see and hear the ocean from their lanai and 2) to get some sleep. :-) As for the ocean, the condo is 25 feet away from the ocean so you can sit on the lanai and watch the waves crash into the sea wall or the sun set over the wide pacific and disappear behind Molokai. When it comes to sleeping I'm pretty particular about the mattress I sleep on, so it was important to find a good mattress that rivaled what I expect from the Westin. It's wrapped up in designer bedding and 600 thread count sheets. It's amazingly comfortable and I think you'll find it's wonderful to listen to the waves as you drift off to sleep.
It's a wonderful, luxurious space that will give you everything you want from a Maui vacation. I look forward to having you experience it for yourself.
If you're into cooking, the kitchen has been completely remodeled with granite countertops and custom wood cabinets. You have all the cookware necessary for a complete meal and then some. The dishes, glassware, and tableware are all beautiful and will make having dinner on the lanai at sunset feel like a 5 star restaurant. You are also a couple minutes away from a market that specializes in local and organic foods, if you're looking for fresh ingredients.
There's also a brand new air conditioner, which is not common in vacation rentals.
Of course, there's the usual stuff, 32' flatscreen TV with DVD and cable, high speed internet with WiFi, speakers to plug an iPod into, hair dryer, small library of DVDs, and even a desk to write postcards on or check email (not that you'd be doing that on your vacation). The couch becomes a queen sized, simmons mattress to accomodate kids or another adult. There's also stuff like beach chairs, a boogie board, snorkel equipment, and beach towels.
There are two pools. However, this is a residential condo complex (meaning folks live here year round) so the pools aren't resort quality. There's no waterslides, bars, spa, lifeguards, or attendants handing you towels. They are nice, clean pools, but more modest than you'd find in a resort. Of course, the condo has pool/beach towels for your use and it's easy enough to mix up your own drinks in the blender. :-) There's also a couple day spas a short distance away.
The unit is adjacent to a sandy beach which is great for swimming and snorkeling or just laying out. There's a grassy area directly in front with a gas BBQ, tables, and chaise lounges. You're one block from restaurants and shopping. It's an excellent central location to go north to Kapalua or south to Kaanapali, Lahaina town and the Lahaina Harbor.
The condo is non-smoking and is on the second floor, up one flight of stairs.

We stayed at the condo April 8-12, 2013 and absolutely loved it! The view from the lanai was incredible, just like in the pictures! Amazing sunsets, and there were turtles right on the rocks! It was an amazing experience - I don't think I could have asked for better views and a better location for my home away from home! The location was exactly as described, and the pictures were exactly as shown! The shower was also incredible! Finding the condo was easy, and after some confusion about the parking (we were informed it was spot #206, but once we were unable to find #206, we contacted the on-site contacts and they told us the numbers had been re-painted and it was a new number). The WiFi would not connect at all, and I had to plug in in order to connect. That is fine though, I only had to check a few work emails. Who needs internet when you have the ocean 20ft away from you?! I would recommend this to anyone who wants a romantic getaway. The condo is perfect for 2 people - it would be crowded for more than that. I recommend going to the Maui Brewing Co.'s restaurant that is just around the corner off of HooHui St... so many different beers, it was great! Also, driving down to Front St and going to Kimo's is a great idea. Amazing Ocean front dining - try the Hula Pie! Overall, amazing experience, I can't wait to plan my next vacation!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

This studio doesn't feel like one...it has all the room and amenities of a much larger place....the lanai is an integral part of any Hawaiian vacation, and in this one, you have the rolling waves and the unbeatable views and sunsets to make you never want to leave...Kitchen is home-like...everything you need is right there....the shower is exquisite, unlike any I've ever had the occasion to use on my many Maui vacations....Combine the super comfortable quueen-size bed with the sound of the ocean, and you have a restful sleep, allowing you to greet the next day with all the energy needed for enjoying the island, however you choose to do it....I'm already planning my next visit...Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This condo was perfect for us--much better than a large resort. Everything was as described except that there was no breafast tray on our bed as in the pictures! The ocean was up close and personal and the whale watching was superb. The property was very clean, the towels were plentiful, kitchen utensils were adequate, and the pool across the street was clean and enjoyable. We never were able to get the WIFI to work but were able to hardwire a laptop. Bar stools on the lanai would have made it easier to whale watch over the railing but we just stacked up pillows on the existing chairs so we could see better. For future visitors who may arrive later in the evening, we recommend walking to Maui Brewing Co. or Dollies for a nearby meal. We didn't realize how close they were till we got oriented the next day. We also highly recommend Kelii's kayak and snorkel tours--swim with turtles! Kapalua Beach for nearby snorkeling-beautiful fish. Loved carryouts from Maui Tacos, Ona Kau Kau, and Mama's Ribs as well as elegant dining at Pacific'O. Mahalo!Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

What an amazing view! The condo was just as listed and better! It was easy to find - great location on the island. We watched whales, saw sea turtles right from the lanai. The kitchen was well equiped with up to date appliances and everything was very clean. We enjoyed walking the many beaches on the island and watching the surfers. It was one of the best vacations we have had and want to thank Jim for sharing his little piece of paradise with us!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The condo is accurutely described and just what we expected....we had a couple of issues while staying there and Jim resolved them for us quickly. Being first time visitors to Maui we found Jims list of things to do and places to go especially helpful. We prepared meals in the kitchen and found everything we needed in the way of pots, pans, silverware and dishes to prepare most anything.....it is great to prepare a meal and sit on the lanai and watch the sun go down and we were lucky enough to be there when we could watch the mother whales playing with there calves . Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be back .Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The place is clean.Comfortable, but not luxury. Location is good. The lawn in front of the condo is under remodelling, building a new wall to protect from the ocean. Contractors and loud machines all day long, disturbing our privacy. The " honey bucket" was parked behind the barbecue grill so the contractors would use it. Pool was dirty and trash laying around the lounge chairs.Owner response: I'm sorry about the construction. The tsunami last year caused a fair amount of damage, including hollowing out the area behind the sea wall which is below the lawn. Apparently the extent of this wasn't known until recently so it needed to be repaired asap for safety reasons. The construction will be done by the end of Jan. 2013. Of course, that doesn't make your experience any better and I really apologize for the situation and noise. I wish you had contacted me during the stay. I don't know what could have been done, but we probably could have worked out something to make the stay a bit better. Sincerely, Jim

I had a fabulous stay at Jim's studio. The studio is conveniently located about a 10 minute drive to Ka'anapali and within walking distance of Bad Ass Coffee, the farmer's market and health food store. I recommend all 3 of those. Hula Grill up at Ka'naapali is a great place for lunch, and if you catch Kulewa playing you are in for a treat. Those guys also play at Duke's some evenings-I'd suggest drinks and appetizers at Duke's. The lanai was a great place to just hang out and watch the waves and boats go by, sunsets and sunrises, and the bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in - the kind that pulls you in and doesn't let go, off to dreamland! The new shower is fabulous and the kitchen was clean and great for cooking, with warm breezes passing through the place. The listing is true to the place except that since it is on Maui and Maui is so relaxing, no pictures or words can quite capture what it is like to be there. I had no noise from any other units, and with the building being shared full time people and renters, it felt kind of like I was living there, which was a good thing. Thanks, Jim, for sharing such a fine piece of Paradise!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This condo was perfect for two people! It was clean and comfortable and looks exactly like the pictures. We really appreciated the internet capabilities, updated kitchen and the beach equipment. We loved the lanai and spent time sitting and looking out at the ocean and neighboring islands. We also slept with the lanai door open, as recommend, to listen to the waves all night which was so soothing. Jim was easy to work with and sent us a huge information packet giving us tips about the condo and nearby activities. He also has a welcome book in the condo that covers some of this information as well. We definitely used his advice and went to many of the restaurants he recommended. Also, the condo managers Jack & Mike were also extremely helpful with finding us Jim's condo and one for our friends and giving us tourist information. There are loads of nearby activities and the best part about this area is it easy to get to everything with minimal traffic. There a tons of beaches to choose from, but we stuck mostly to those you could surf. Boss Frogs is 1 block from the condo and they have equipment rentals and good deals on activity tickets. We did the Molokai Crater and Turtle Town snorkeling adventure on the Frogman II Catarmaran (Ma'alea, 35 min); the snorking at the crater was not very impressive but the coral was beautiful in Turtle town. We did not see turtles that day (cloudy water); however, we did see a dolphin right next to the boat and 4 whales (one was 100 feet away!). If you like boat rides and it is a calm water day, this is a cruise to do and they serve $3 drinks after snorkeling! We also used this boat for one of our whale watches. Or just snorkel at Honolua bay, free! The best place to see tons of turtles is from the lanai and S-turns beach which is only 3-4 blocks from the condo. One actually come right on the beach about 10 feet away from us! We also went on a whale watch in Lahiana (15 min away) wtih Pacific Whale Foundation on one of their large Zodiac Raft boats. This was an AWESOME experience; you get great seats and very knowledgeable whale staff. We watched a pod of whales, 3 males competing for 1 female, for two hours and have great footage of tails, fins, blows and partial breeches! The best beginner surfing beach is Breakwall in Lahiana and check out Spanky's Riptide Bar its owners are from WI and they have PBR on tap! Crazy! The Hana road: leave early (6-7 am) and use 2 days. The condo has the Hana CD, a must.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband, daughters and I enjoyed our stay so much! We have been to Maui several times before this, but we had never gone with a vacation rental. We will definately do it again!! I miss going to sleep and waking up to sound of the waves every day. We saw turtles every day right from the lanai. My girls loved walking down by the rock wall and watching them, and the little crabs also. They also enjoyed chasing all the geckos around the pool. We walked to the beach just down the road a few times. It was nice and private, but pretty rocky. We usually drove to more calm beaches for our little ones. The laundry facilities were nice and clean, and reasonable prices. Everyone that we met was very friendly. The shower has to be one of the best features of your place!! It is a wonderful escape!! We saved a lot of money by cooking some meals in your wonderful kitchen. We did enjoy many great meals out also. We took your suggestion for thai food, and it was great... my husband enjoyed the pineapple curry! I do have to say that Safeway is not the cheapest place to shop for groceries... we found that the Times supermarket had better prices. I think the only complaint that we had is that the internet on our phones did not work very much when we were in the complex, and when it did work it was very slow. We tried connecting to your wifi, but that did not work either. Overall, we really enjoyed your condo, and loved the area. Thank you so much for making it available for us to enjoy! We think of Maui very fondly, especially during the winters in Alaska!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad you had a great time! Yes, the Pineapple curry is quite awesome. It's very good food to get to go and eat on the lanai. Can't ask for better ocean front dining. :-) Sorry about the wifi. There is a note in the Welcome email I send out mentioning that it needs to be restarted occasionally. I'll make that a bit more prominent in the email. As for Times vs. Safeway, maybe I need to do a price comparison, it's been awhile. Safeway is definitely more expensive if you don't have one of their club cards, but those are free. Next time I'm at the condo, I'll leave a few of the cards around so folks don't have to sign up for it. Anyways, glad the turtles were on their best behavior and we look forward to having you back! Mahalo, Jim

The stay at this condo exceeded our expectations. My husband and I arrived at night, so we could not see our setting until morning. However, it was wonderful to enjoy the stone-tiled shower, and fall asleep to the sound of waves on one of the most comfortable beds ever. In the morning, we were delighted to see how close we were to the ocean, and enjoyed the first of many breakfasts on the lanai. There were other vacation units in this complex. However, it was all the little details that made this unit special. The dishes, utensils, and linens were all tastefully chosen. Even though we brought our own snorkel gear, the gear provided for visitors to borrow felt generous. A cooler meant that we could pack a lunch to go on an all-day outing and not worry about food spoiling. A workstation with a large screen meant that I did not have to squint over a small laptop screen while working on AutoCAd (only at night when we were not snorkelling, mind you). Jim, we wished you had been there so that we could thank you personally for making your home so welcoming. We highly recommend your place to anyone considering a stay in Maui. Perfect for two people.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for the review... glad everything was to your liking! You do realize you're not supposed to be working on your holiday? :-) But, yeah, I figure if you have to get a little work done it's better with a good monitor and regular keyboard. When I'm out there I do have to work, and I refer to the condo as my 'cubicle with a view' (since it's a studio it is sort of a cube :-). Thanks again and you're welcome back any time.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: Hi, I'm Jim Tierney. I live most of the year in San Francisco and escape to Maui whenever I get tired of the foggy weather. I run a small software company and have the good fortune of being able to work anywhere there's an internet connection. Luckily that's the case with Maui, so whenever I get an urge for whale watching, diving, or laying in the sun it's no problem coming over. I love diving and the diving in Maui is spectacular, there are some really beautiful spots. I also have a passion for photography, particularly whales and outdoor scenes, so you'll see some of my work on the walls of the unit. I hope you'll check out my place. I put a lot of work into it making sure it was a livable space for when I'm there. So I think the standards I have for the condo is much higher than most rental units.
Why the Owner Chose Honokowai:
I bought this because I'll be there about 3 months of the year and I wanted something on the ocean. A friend of mine lives in the same building so I was very familiar with the property and all it offered (ok, so mostly it offered the ocean about 20 feet way :-). It's amazing to watch the sun set during the summer, see the whales during the winter, and listen to the waves all year long.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
A wonderful view (did I mention you're 25 feet from the ocean :-), a high-end, very comfortable bed, a full kitchen, and air conditioning.
