This Seal Harbor summer 'cottage' is one of the original old cottage homes on the coveted 'Ox Hill' location in Seal Harbor, Maine. This grand home has 9 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. It has a huge brick terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and many islands. The common spaces are quite large and comfortable. The large formal dining room can sit 12 people comfortably and the adjoining informal breakfast room can seat 6 people.
The amenities in this beautiful home are wireless internet, flat-screen TV with satellite, washer & dryer, industrial style gas stove, grill, cribs, and high-chairs. The private office has a fax machine and fireplace. There is a large fireplace in the family room and one in the dining room and wood is provided for those chilly Maine evenings. During the day the windows can all be opened to take in the fresh breezes from the ocean and the wonderful pine tree smells. The house has a large canoe that can be used as well as a mooring for rent for those that would like bring or rent a boat. Seal Harbor has access to fresh water lake swimming (Long Pond) and a nice sand beach at the head of harbor. Also access to motor and sailboat is negotiable.
The unique location of this summer home offers a vacation for everyone. Those looking for an active vacation can enter Acadia National park just a mile away. Many Ox Hill residents ride their bikes right from their homes into Acadia National Park to take advantage of the many miles of carriage trails. People looking for a relaxing vacation can take advantage of the private outside terrace and gorgeous views of the ocean and islands as well as the comforts inside the home. Grocery stores are located in Northeast Harbor and nearby Bar Harbor where you will also find many restaurants and lots of shopping.

This is a magnificent historic house and location. We had a party of ten and the terrace, larger dining room and kitchen work out great. The house has the best island location, very private and the view of the ocean is breathtaking from the very large terrace. Access to all of the island from this location can't be beat and it is a very short drive into Bar Harbor. Don't miss the path to the ocean a few streets down, its a short walk to the cove and very nice secluded area. This property was the ideal vacation spot for my extended family group of 11. The view is spectacular and the house itself divine, It has a roomy kitchen, a huge dining room, a lovely breakfast room, an excellent library, and a wonderful terrace overlooking the ocean and islands. There is enough space for everyone to be together or enjoy a quiet time reading alone. We did not have children in our group, but Ilfracombe is a family-oriented , happy house for all ages. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at Ilfracombe was one of the happiest vacation experiences ever, for both the children and the adults. The house easily accomodated 18 of us, as we gathered together each day for breakfast and met up again in the evening for dinner in the welcoming dining room, a perfect fit for 12 people, with the children happily seated at the smaller table in the adjoining room. Nothing was lacking, everything we could possibly want or need was close at hand. There were even fresh lettuces growing in the garden! Mount Desert Island is the perfect spot for family vacations, and beautiful Ilfracombe the best location for all the adventures the Island has to offer. We were comfortable, happy, and had plenty of room to be together when we wanted to be or separate when desired. Everything was exactly as described~ only better! We are delighted by our happy memories and would recommend Ilfracombe to everyone as the ideal vacation accomodation for a big family.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Wonderful loacation and spacious home for large family gathering. Ample rooms with private baths, large dining areas, spectacualr views. Easy access to hiking, biking, swiming, boating. Very private.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

This home has been enjoyed by three generations as a family gathering spot for 36 years. It has also hosted many high school and college reunions as well. The proximity to Acadia National Park and Seal Harbor beach make this location one of the best on the island. The views from this house encompass Schoodic Point, Baker's Island, Little Cranberry Island, Great Cranberry Island and Bunker's ledge. The huge outdoor terrace overlooking the ocean is a wonderful entertaining spot as well as a great place to eat outside while taking in the view.
