Wonderful house with excellent amenities and close to everything. About one minute's walk to Frenchmen Street and only half a block to the start of the Quarter, though probably a 10 minute stroll to the start of any FQ attractions. George, the property manager, is very helpful in orienting you to the area and highlighting the local music and food favorites. Our personal favorites are Coop's on Decatur for fantastic local food, especially the Rabbit and Gator Jambalaya; at peak times, there will be a line, but it's totally worth waiting (or go early or late). Check out Maison and Cafe Negril on Frenchmen for great music any night of the week for no cover. You can't go wrong with this accommodation -- the location is ideal!

We loved the clean, lovely cottage. George, the person who checked us in, was wonderful and gave us maps and lots of advise. We appreciated that a lot. Perfect location for walking to French Quarter, Bourbon Street, and we especially loved the shops and restaurants on Royal.

I loved this location for my stay in New Orleans. The cottage is beautiful and the service was very accommodating. I loved the neighborhood - really convenient for hanging out on Frenchmen or in the Quarter. I would stay here again and again - and I hope to do so! Thanks! Jenna

THIS IS THE PERFECT PLACE TO BE! THERE WERE 4 ADULTS, AGED 52 TO 58. THERE WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM. THE PICTURES MAKE THE ROOMS LOOK NARROW, BUT THEY AREN'T. EVERYTHING WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION, EXTREMELY CLEAN, ROOMY AND LOVELY DECOR. THE COURTYARD MADE YOU FEEL THAT YOU WERE SECURE AND IT WAS SO NICE TO SIT OUT. THE PLACE IS AT THE BEST LOCATION YOU COULD ASK FOR. WE RENTED A CAR FOR THE WEEK AND FOUND A PLACE TO PARK. YOU DO HAVE TO BE CAREFUL. IF YOU ONLY WANT TO BE IN THE NEW ORLEANS AREA, THERE WOULD NOT BE A NEED FOR A VEHICLE. WE TOOK CABS FOR OUR NIGHTS OUT BUT WAS HAPPY TO HAVE A CAR TO TRAVEL DURING THE DAY. IF YOU HAVE A CAR, BE SURE TO GO TO ZEA ROTISSERIE<>GRILL IN METAIRIE. HAD LUNCH THERE TWICE. AWESOME!!! I WILL ADMIT THAT I CAN BE PICKY AND THERE IS NOT ONE NEGATIVE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT OUR STAY.

Our group of six decided to head down to New Orleans for New Year's, and we wanted a place that could accommodate all of us comfortably and still be close to the action. We found the Cottage on Royal, and it was great! The cottage truly was charming, and it was only a short walk down to Frenchman St, Jackson Square, and Bourbon St. As other reviewers have noted, the cottage sits right across the street from a pretty popular bar, so there is a bit of noise late at night. However, what do you expect in the French Quarter? It was not a problem for us. The place was absolutely gorgeous and was appointed with everything we needed. It is clear that this is a well-cared for rental unit. The only issue we had was that there was construction on the unit next door almost every day we were there. It wasn't so bad until the morning we woke up to the guys sawing down and removing the trim around the front door of OUR unit. It was VERY loud and took away from our experience (we did come down for the complete New Orleans experience, after all). It was definitely an inconvenience that we were not made aware of before or when we arrived. An oversight by the property manager, I'm sure. All in all, our experience at the Cottage on Royal was a good one. Had there not been VERY LOUD construction most mornings of our stay, I would not hesitate to give a 5-star rating. I imagine when there ISN'T construction, it's an even more amazing place to stay! We would certainly consider staying here again, and we definitely recommend the Cottage on Royal!

The cottage was even cleaner and cuter than I expected. It was ideal for a group of girlfriends travelling together. The courtyard and carriageway were so charming, and the house itself was just lovely. I would absolutely return here again.

Very lovely cottage. Clean and tastefully decorated. Pictures on website are nice but it's even better in person. Great neighborhood and easy walk to the French Quarter. The property manager is a gem, and has lots of helpful information for first time visitors. Even with the occasional late night noise from the bar across the street we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

This house is wonderful! I could not have been happier with the location which I really debated at first. It was perfect. Truly everything we wanted was within easy walking distance. The locals in the neighborhood were great. Couple of things to know: parking is on the street. We found a great place close to the house and left the car for 3nights with no problems. The entrance to the house is through a locked gate so you are very secure although I never felt unsafe anywhere we went. You walk through a sort of court yard area to the back of the house which is where you enter the house. Great little patio in back that we soaked up a little NOLA sun and free music from down the street! Their are other condo's or something that you share the locked gate with their guests but it was no big deal. Nice to meet some other folks and actually we hardly ever saw or heard anyone else. Incredibly happy with this rental and dealing with the owners. The caretaker George was also great and full of wonderful local facts and cultural information.

My husband and I stayed here with our teenage daughter in January. It was a very nice little cottage, hidden away in the back of a courtyard/patio, accessible by a code. We felt very comfortable and safe in the area and loved how close the cottage was to the French Quarter as well as lots of nice restaurants. The noise from the bar across the street was definitely noticeable on the weekends, but not unusual for New Orleans. The cottage was very clean and updated, and nicely decorated. Our only minor complaint was that someone was waiting outside our cottage about 20 minutes prior to our checkout time, waiting to come clean it, and we felt rushed to leave because of that. Other than that, everything was great.

This was such a great place for a vacation. We stayed at the cottage over New Year's and had a wonderful time. The neighborhood is safe and the area where the cottages are is quite secure with its own locked carriage-way. It has beautiful interior decor - amazing art, truly. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, the water is hot when needed with good water pressure (hey, I'm hitting all the bases here). I had 5 people in my group; we were all quite impressed with this rental. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything cookiing items you might need - but really... who comes to New Orleans to cook? There are so many great restaurants and cafes within a 5 minute walk. This is honestly one of the best houses/apt/cottages I've ever rented because of how well it is maintained and the location to anything. The owners were easy to communicate with when settling the contract and payment - I even got my security deposit back super fast!!! The manager's name is George and he is an absolute gem. When we got to the cottage a bit early, he sat us down and showed us all the neighborhood places to check out and where to eat. He was available when I needed to call him with a few questions that I had and was quite hospitable. A++. Thanks for such a great stay!!!

We LOVED this place! We rented it for a week. Our 2 grown children from Chicago joined us for part of the week and there was plenty of room for the 4 of us to be very comfortable. The description was accurate about the location and all it had to offer. The property was as clean as could be. The kitchen had everything we needed, too. The artwork on the walls was lovely. We were really happy it was so easy to walk to everything we wanted to do in the French Quarter and it was close to some of the greatest jazz clubs in the city (Snug Harbor and Palm Court for example.) George is a wonderful caretaker and he gave us great tips on good places to eat and enjoy music, too. Because of the warnings in the prior postings about the loud bar across the street, we brought earplugs for everyone and even a sound machine to use in the master bedroom! We were glad we did! We would recommend this spot to anyone visiting NOLA! What a find!

Took my wife to NOLA as a surprise for her 50th birthday. Accompanied by friends who grew up in New Orleans, but moved away 10+ years ago. Althought they visit annually, they had never stayed anywhere but with family or FQ hotel. To us "newbies", it was all perfect, a sentiment echoed by our friends. Location is absolutely the best, amenities of the Cottage are splendid. It was so nice to "retire" to a quiet getaway after a day of being in and around the City. You felt as if you were several miles away from all the activities, but in reality you were only a few blocks. Do check out the Maringy Brasserie on Frenchmen and the Crossoint D'Or just down the street on Ursuline. Best breakfast pastries you could ever imagine. Absolutely delightful !!!

A wonderful cottage only a block from The French Quarter. The unit was tastefully decorated and as pictured on VRBO. It has a lovely patio which is great for your morning coffee. It was an easy and pleasant walk to all the sites. The property manager was very helpful and spent over an hour giving us restaurant tips and tour information. It would have been perfect if it had an iron and ironing board, condiments (salt & pepper) and a bottle of water ... since we were told by the property manager that the "locals" did not drink the tap water. The bar across the street can be noisy especially on Firday and Saturday nights, which we're told is not unusual for New Orleans. We would definitely stay there again!

Owner response: There is a closet in the guest bath filled with all sorts of comforts of home, including broom, vacuum, iron and ironing board, other helpful items. It appears that this guest may not have looked around, nor asked the very capable Property Manager? Perhaps they didn't notice the closet? A simple request would have been met with everything this guest needed being right at their fingertips all along. We tried to think of everything and put it in place for all of our guests!

My husband and I rented the Cottage for 12 nights for our destination wedding in New Orleans. We had originally planned for another couple to stay there with us, but our guests' plans changed, so we had the place all to ourselves. Oh well, their loss! The Cottage was perfect - extremely spacious and comfortable, impeccably decorated, and endowed with every modern amenity. The private courtyard was lovely, and added an extra element of charm to already very attractive accomodations. It was our first trip to New Orleans and I was a bit concerned that the Marigny might be a long walk from the major sites.... well, I needn't have worried. The location was spot-on, a great base from which we walked all over town - just a short distance from the Quarter, the French Market, Frenchmen Street, and dozens of other places of interest. It's far enough away from the Bourbon-Street-style craziness to escape, but just a short walk away if that's your kind of scene ;). George, the onsite manager, was super kind and helpful, and the owners were a joy to work with. I kept thinking to myself that one would have to be a fool to stay in a hotel when such charming and affordable alternatives exist! We will definitely be visiting New Orleans again, and I'd love to rent the Cottage for our next stay.

This rental is gorgeous, comfortable, amazing location. My family and I were so impressed with the beauty and charm of this place. It is so spacious. We had 6 adults and a 10 month old baby and we never felt crowded. All amenities are exactly as described in this listing. We could not believe how nice it was for the price. Great location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. It is a true New Orleans experience. We had such a good time that I dont even want to point out the one bad thing; however, I do feel the next part is important for people to know about the location. There is a bar directly across the street. This cottage is on the corner of the street and directly across on the other corner is a bar. The noise at night is very loud. Especially from the master bedroom. The bar only only 30 or 40 feet from the master bed. Don't plan on sleeping before 2:00am. And if you email the owners to ask if the neighborhood is quiet - they will tell you the same thing they told me (copied from their email) "If you have ever been to New Orleans then you know that there is no way to predict when a spontaneous party will erupt in any street in town. Although it is typically a quiet neighborhood, there is no way to predict noise in New Orleans." There was never any mention of the bar, and I do feel as though they should have revealed the bar directly across the street. (Especially since they new we were bringing an infant.) Other than that - this place is amazing. If you are going to New Orleans and plan on staying out late and sleeping in - then this is most definitely the place for you. Way better than staying at a hotel. Again, everything about the place aside from the noise is amazing!

My husband and small daughter stayed at the Cottage for 14 nights. The proximity to the Quarter was amazing. The place is exactly as advertised. The king size bed in the Master is a treat. The private courtyard is a great place for relaxing when you remember the mosquito repellant. The best part was the other people staying in the Courtyard--every one was warm and friendly and all too happy to recommend their favorite place to go for dinner or a drink. We had several nights of entertaining guests, so we found the kitchen appointments a bit basic and eventually gave up on trying to re-create the marvelous NOLA food and just bought it! We also had quite a long stay so, lack of working telephone (at least during our stay), weak shower head pressure and no CD player were annoying, but things that you probably wouldn't notice if you were only there for a few days. Do keep in mind that you are in entertainment district, so it is a noisy on Friday, Sat nights. We didn't mind as we were quite familiar with the area and its charms.

For my seventh visit to the most interesting city in North America, my wife, daughter and I spent just short of a week at this condo in the Marigny District one block outside the French Quarter, and now I'm spoiled and can't imagine staying anyplace else in New Orleans. The photos and description in VRBO were completely accurate. The property was very comfortable and tastefully furnished and decorated, meticulously cleaned and maintained, and convenient to everything we wanted to visit. Highly recommended to anyone who loves and knows what it means to miss New Orleans.

After our initial visit to NOLA in 2010, we wanted to return and stay in the Marigny, which is an intriguing "real" part of town, just outside the French Quarter tourist mania and yet with easy access to shopping and dining, etc. This totally renovated cottage was ideal for our needs. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and very relaxing. The master bedroom has a very comfortable king-size bed, and the two baths were quite luxurious, with good water pressure and piles of thick towels. The open kitchen was brand new, with stylish appointments in a charming black/red color scheme. From here it was a quick walk to Bourbon Street, Frenchmen Street, Jackson Square, etc. We did hear a tiny bit of street noise on Saturday night, but after all, you're in New Orleans! Most of the time it was blissfully quiet, and we enjoyed sitting with our morning coffee on the enclosed patio surrounded by lush plants. All in all this is a wonderful place to stay. The owners were very quick to reply to emails, and George, the local agent, was helpful and kind.

My husband and I took my elderly mother to New Orleans and this place was perfect. She uses a crutch and the one set of steps were wide with good railing. The location is fantastic- so near the French Quarter and the French Market. This is a perfect location even if you have meetings at the Convention Center. The Red Line Streetcar picks up at the end of Esplanade and drops you right at the Convention Center. The interior of the property is exceptional- beautifully furnished and well-stocked with anything you need. Our experience was outstanding and we would choose this location the next time we return.

We stayed in this lovely home for 3 days. The set up is perfect for two couple, two bedroom/two full baths with a nicely updated kitchen and living area. The garden/patio area is perfect for having coffee in the morning or cocktails in the evening. No need to rent a car, the location is great, you are within walking distance of the Market, Square, Bourbon Street and more shops and restaurants than you can count. A great deal for a wonderfully situated, immaculately presented rental. A+ for cleanliness and amenities. The beds are comfortable, the linens spotless, the bathrooms were perfect. The backyard features some lovely vegetation, creating a super relaxing atmosphere. A beautiful kitchen and fridge make self catering a snap...that is, if you have it in your heart not to eat at one of NOLA's notoriously delicious restaurants! The neighborhood is ideal--non-touristy, real people. The apartment is centrally located however, and steps away from the French Quarter sites--figure a 5-10 minute walk through tree lined atmospheric streets. If you need something, anything really, the wonderful Verdi Mart (small local market) is just down Royal street and is open 24/7. A great spot for foodies, it's not a long stroll to Cafe du Monde for the best beignets and Central Grocery for a perfect muffaletta. Lastly, the owners are friendly and accommodating, very responsive to any of the questions we had. I'd not hesitate to recommend the Cottage on Royal to any of my friends or family.

We spent two full weeks at the cottage. Madalaine and Carmen put much love into making their cottage a quintessential New Orleans experience. Frequent visitors to NOLA will feel right at home, and it is the perfect entry point for first-timers - a short walk to the FQ, the heart of the Marigny around the corner, Frenchmen clubs literally steps away. Yet, very private. Spent many afternoons hanging in the courtyard with a cool drink, newspaper, work, etc.). If you are looking for the NOLA vibe, a homey space and a great location, the Cottage on Royal is perfect.

What a wonderful home away from home! We stayed in this cottage for a week in April. Our group was comprised of 2 women over 50 and 2 women in their early 20's. The house had everything we could ask for. Location was perfect - short walk from the French quarter and Frenchmen street clubs and restaurants. The neighborhood is so comfortable and friendly. There is something for all ages close by and we did not have to worry about either age going to and from the house. Even though this is a great location for someone without a car, we had a rental car and always found a parking spot on the street within a block or 2 of the house. The house is delightfully decorated and comfortable. We wanted for nothing. Great beds, showers, kitchen. The furnishings and decor were 'just right'. The private courtyard entrance and backyard courtyard are so relaxing. We had a fabulous time in New Orleans and these accommodations are a good part of why. The Owners were a joy to work with. They responded quickly to all communications and were clear with all information. When I return to New Orleans, I will definitely consider returning here.
