Very nice apartment in a great location

Guest: Mary (Chicago, IL, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/13/12 Review Submitted: 05/21/12

My husband and I stayed for 6 days and found the apartment suited our needs well. The location was great and the apartment well-appointed and comfortable, quiet as well. The owner was very helpful in showing us the ropes, providing information on restaurants and transportation, and booking us a taxi when we left. We would stay here again were we to be in Paris. Thanks, Claude, for your help.

a great studio in central Paris

Guest: Irene F (Boulder, CO USA)
Date of Stay: 04/07/12 Review Submitted: 04/16/12

The online description of property was accurate. Bathroom, kitchen, living/sleeping area all fine. The bed is exceptionally comfortable. The owner has been friendly, available and helpful throughout our transactions, before and during our stay. The building as a while, and studio itself, are very quiet, as the studio faces in onto a courtyard. Being on the first floor (one level above street), the studio was also easy to get into. The space would work well for a single, a couple, or a couple with a child. The location is great for exploring the whole of central Paris, and has access in under 5 minute walk to 3 metro stations on different lines. Rue du Vertbois itself has a variety of good restaurants. I very highly (five stars!) recommend Anahi; fantastic Argentian food and superb wine selection. The building looks like nothing from outside, but do not be deceived by that. Overall, a most enjoyable stay, in a great location, for a very reasonable price. Many thanks to the owner!

Owner response:Merci, grand merci Ruby to take time to make such a complete description of the studio and its benefits. I am so happy to see you two had "an enjoyable stay"here in Paris. Make it an "Au revoir".

Great value and great charm

Guest: Jay (Ohio, USA)
Date of Stay: 03/30/12 Review Submitted: 05/06/12

We had a splendid time in this delightful studio, staying twice over the course of our 3 1/2 weeks in France. It's the perfect spot from which to sally forth in Paris -- a great location close to the metro, grocery stores, bakeries, and restaurants, and in an area with plenty of old world charm. The studio is very clean, is furnished with everything one needs for a comfortable stay, and Claude goes out of her way to make sure her guests enjoy their stays. She even provided us with step by step directions from the airport to the flat, and twice called to arrange taxis for us when we needed them. I don't know why anyone would opt for a hotel when this reasonably priced little gem is available. We would return in a heartbeat -- and certainly hope to do so!

Owner response:Dear Glenn and dear Jay, I feel so good when Paris lovers appreciate my studio altogether. I look forward to have you here again in a "heartbeat".

Our Perfect March

Guest: Richard & Jeanne (Las Cruces, NM, USA)

This studio wildly exceeded all of our expectations. Comfortable, quiet, accessible, all amenities, great neighborhood, charming and very helpful landlady. We hope to return soon and often. All our needs were nicely anticipated . Closest metro about 5" away. Good shower, comfortable mattress, plenty of storage, washer/dryer, phone. We can't imagine more ideal lodgings in Paris. The photos of the studio were accurate. The place was very clean and well furnished.

Owner response:Cher Richard and chère Jeanne, I wish you soon and often.

I love your place, Claude!

Guest: Maria (Singapore)
Date of Stay: 12/13/11 Review Submitted: 12/21/11

Hi Claude! Your apartment is simply perfect. I love how we could walk easily to three different Metro stations that took us all over Paris. The apartment is a perfect cozy size for us and well-equipped with whatever we needed to cook for the little ones (saucepan, kettle, frying pan etc). You've thought of everything - even the map and instructions to the boulangerie! The apartment is clean and so charming on the second floor. The children kept asking to go back to 'our' apartment after only a few hours of sight-seeing. They enjoy being in your aparment. I'll be coming back next June (hopefully) by myself, sans husband, sans children. So I hope to be able to book your place again. Thank you for having us Claude. It was a pleasure meeting you. Hugs, Maria

Owner response:Dear Maria,"Boulangerie" is becoming an inside joke for happy guest, isn't it? Thanks so much for coming and coming again. Au revoir very soon. Hugs, Claude

Great Location

Guest: Dianne (Massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 11/18/11 Review Submitted: 12/01/11

Great little studio. Make sure you know how to use a French press for coffee before you go. The Cafe du Metiers at the end of the corner is very good. The Metro stop is just one block away and there are stores and a boulanger within 2 blocks. The television and the shower were a bit quirky, but we finally figured them out.Beds were comfy, but lighting was dim. Roomier than a hotel room and very quiet and safe neighborhood.

Owner response:Dear Dianne, You made the most interesting game of your voyage.

Guest: girl from arizona (Tempe, Arizona USA)
Date of Stay: 10/30/11 Review Submitted: 11/04/11

My parents and I stayed in this apartment for four days and it was an ideal location to see much of Paris. We could easily walk to the activity of the Marais across to Notre Dame and the Latin Quarter. It has easy access to several Metro lines and the 38 bus stops just one block away. The apartment is simple, but has all the essentials - comfortable beds, wifi and a small kitchen for breakfast or dinners. Claude was a warm host - greeting us at the door, providing maps and answering questions about the area.

Owner response:Many thanks to sensitive travellers. I am so pleased to see your appreciation of your stay. Please come back.

My husband and stayed at this apartment and would gladly return. The convenient location near metros, boulangerie, restaurants and markets was definitely a plus and put Paris at your doorstep! Claude was a perfect hostess providing clear directions to the apartment and the infomation needed to feel comfortable in the apartment and the neighborhood. The free wi-fi and phone was very helpful. Thank you Claude!

Owner response:Please, Don and Julie, come back soon to "le Marais" where every crossroads of two streets are planted with a coffee shop with a terrace or a bakery shop spreading the unforgetable smell of warm croissants...

We stayed in the Large Studio in Marais Arr 3 for one week.

Guest: carell (Canada)
Date of Stay: 09/08/11 Review Submitted: 09/18/11

Pros: It is close to a metro station; quiet; has a well-equipped kitchen; variety of restaurants & supermarkets close by. The owner provided general information re the area when we arrived and arranged for a taxi to take us to airport for our return flight. Limitations: We could not find any patisseries, boulangeries, epiceries in the area. The décor is tacky with limited space for hanging clothing and insufficient lights for reading. The door lock is temperamental. The convertible bed does not provide a comfortable sleep. We couldn’t get the shower to work although the owner assured us she had no difficulty with it. A full length mirror would be beneficial. Of interest: We have stayed in a studio in Paris previously and did not encounter the above issues. We will not return to this studio on subsequent trips.

Owner response:Is this real? Carole and Carolyn could not find a boulangerie, a patisserie, an épicerie in "LE MARAIS" where those stores abund in every streets... This situation may be in relation to the fact that Carolyn broke her glasses on the very first day in the apartment. and call me fo an optician in the neigbourough. is this Optician I mention not a nice one? I don't know how a door latch or a tap in the shower can be temperamental! But when you are in a bad mood... I feel sorry that you did'nt enjoy your stay. I hope your eye situation is better now in Canada. Also my advice: I think your bags are really too heavy to be hold for two aged ladies and third: me. I nearly broke my back helping you.

Date of Stay: 07/13/11 Review Submitted: 08/03/11

My husband and I stayed in the apartment in July 2011 for a week. It was perfect for our trip. We walked to the Seine, the Louvre, to tons of great restaurants. The apartment is in a very safe area on a quiet street. It's close to the metro, which we took everywhere the whole week. Claude was great to work with. She met us at the apartment on the day we arrived and gave us a tour of the apartment (explaining how to operate the washer and dryer, etc.), and she made herself available should we have questions. I would highly recommend this apartment.

Owner response:Dear Shelly and Richard, You looked so optimist when you made your reservation and now so responsive... I am encouraged to deserve your compliments.

Many thanks, Claude, for your warm hospitality. The apartment was perfect for our needs - comfortable and very conveniently located. We were able to find our way around Paris very easily from rue du Vertbois for 3 weeks in Jan/Feb 2011. And it was very pleasant to come back 'home' each evening to a warm, comfortable place. Your assistance in locating shops, restaurants and more was also very much appreciated, and contributed to our wonderful experience. I would highly recommend the apartment to others. Best wishes from Laurel and Margaret

Owner response:Thanks so much Margaret. You Know: Before having guests here, I didn't realize how the studio was so well placed to run easely across the City.

Date of Stay: 09/07/10 Review Submitted: 09/25/10

My adult son and I recently returned from a 10 day stay in Claude's delightful studio apartment. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Paris, and much of the reason is this charming, homey studio apt., and Claude's vibrant personality! Claude was there to greet us after we arrived by bus from CDG, following her quite clear instructions. I have some knee and ankle limitations, and the 18th century stairs appeared a bit daunting at first, but were easier to climb than I thought. We were close to every convenience, and discovered some very interesting shops and restaurants in the Marais. This was my second visit to Paris, and having a comfortable home base after a leisurely stroll around Paris day after day added so much more to our vacation. I would recommend this apartment to everyone...spacious, comfortable, well stocked, and the internet and phone were very welcome. Merci Claude!! I will see you on my next visit to Paris!! Linda

Owner response:And I will be very happy to welcome you and Robert again in "Paris/Vertbois".

Date of Stay: 07/15/10 Review Submitted: 07/01/11

My husband and I stayed in mid June, 2011 and found the apartment exactly as described - so much nicer than a hotel. The washer and dryer are a big plus, as you can pack fewer clothes. Very clear instructions on the apartment provided in English, and a personal welcome. Claude is even more delightful than described in the reviews, and even called to wish us well on our last day. Convenient location to five Metro stops; shops nearby; reasonably priced, and best of all--Paris at your door. I would definitely stay again, and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Owner response:Thanks so much Maureen and Baldwin for this stylish comment! This is so rewarding: you make me redden! "Paris at your door". I have to keep the formula! See you next year!...

exactly as described!

Guest: Jim (California)
Date of Stay: 06/12/10 Review Submitted: 06/24/10

We stayed at Claude's place in mid-June, 2010, and it was exactly as described, both in picture and word, by previous tenants. Very cozy place located just around the corner from the Arts et Metier museum (where we bought our Paris museum passes). Some steps to navigate, if you have heavy luggage. About 3-4 doors down rue vertbois is a nice little grocery store, where we stocked up on fresh produce, juice, baguettes, etc. and cooked in a couple of nights. Had to use cash, since the store's card reader accepted neither our credit card, nor ATM card... but the cards worked fine elsewhere (e.g., train station, museums, etc.). Note, there was a microwave, but no conventional oven or toaster. Electric cooktop. Washer and dryer came in very handy; you need to learn how to use european style instructions (e.g., emptying a water trap under the dryer). Claude gave us excellent advice on transport from CDG airport, and then onward to Orly. It makes total sense to use buses rather than metro/trains, if you have luggage, since you don't have to walk up/down as many steps. One word of advice re: rue vertbois: at night, there are minimal, if any, street lights in our particular section. On our first night out, when we came back (late), I had trouble identifying #60, because it was so dark, and I wasn't as familiar with the layout. Thankfully, the security keypad was lit up! After that, I brought along a small flashlight. Also, a compass comes in handy for orienting yourself as you come out of the metro stations-- some are quite large, with exits pretty far apart. Thanks, Claude, for a great time in Paris!

Owner response:Paris is an exotic place in some ways... I try my best to make a home away from home of this apartment.

Our 5 night stay at Claude's apartment was fabulous. The apartment was perfect for 3 people and the location was ideal. It was exactly as described in the VRBO listing so there were no nasty surprises. Claude was prompt and honest when answering enquiries before we arrived in Paris. The apartment is within 5 minutes walk of a choice of Metro lines. Ideally situated for all public transport and Paris landmarks. Close to a choice of grocery stores to stock up on essentials. Claude greeted us warmly at the apartment and she was within easy reach if we needed her. The apartment was stocked with everything a traveller could need. Travel books, great kitchen, telephone, washing machine and dryer, television, bathroom was clean and adequate, writing table, lovely windows opening to a courtyard, quiet apartment block on lovely safe street. We loved our stay in Paris and would not hesitate to stay in Claude's apartment again. Very reasonably priced and highly recommended.

Owner response:Great comment from high class guests. I wish all my guests found here what they want of their voyage and keep intact what they bring here in Paris: good spirit.

We rented the studio for a week and found it perfect as a home base for exploring the city. The Metro station is a couple of blocks away and the walk to the Pompidou Center and Notre Dame is very easy. The kitchen was well supplied and grocery stores are convenient. The wireless wi-fi and toll-free international calls were very convenient. The space was very homey and comfortable, and we just settled in. Claude is a warm, welcoming, and informative host. We would stay here again and recommend it to friends.

My husband and I stayed here in Dec. 2009. Our comments reflect the other reviews. The apartment is wonderfully located, on a quiet street and faces a courtyard. The kitchen and bathrooms are large and well-furnished, with many towels. There was a lot of heat, which could be adjusted. The best part of the rental was meeting the wonderful Claude. Her English is excellent and she has very helpful information about the apartment and about Paris available. Claude is very supportive and accessible. She even helped us to the bus stop with our luggage! We enjoyed our stay in Paris and on Rue Vertbois.

The apartment is clean, comfortable, and generously appointed with pretty well everything one needs to serve as a temporary home while visiting Paris. The location is perfect, the surrounding area is safe, and Claude Tixier, our host, made us feel immediately at home. This is excellent value for the price. Dear Claude, My husband and I had a wonderful one-week stay in your delightful studio apartment in June 2009. The studio was much larger than we expected, and very comfortable, with every amenity provided. We could have moved in for a year and wouldn't need a thing! You are a very thoughtful host Claude, providing details about the neighbourhood conveniences and even welcoming us with flowers on the table. The area is perfect, with many restaurants and food shops nearby. Metro and bus routes abound, taking just 10 or 15 minutes to most Paris destinations. The Montorgueuil and Enfants Rouges markets are within walking distance, as is the Sunday Bastille market, Place des Voges, Beaubourg and Louvre. We had a wonderful stay in this bright, comfortable, and quiet apartment. Thank you! See you next year. Terry and Eric, Toronto

I have booked this charming Paris apartment twice. The first time I thought it was perfect. In location and size, in amenities and affordability. The apartment is literally behind Musee des Arts et Metier, and a 10 minute walk to the Musee Picasso and Pompidou; how is that for location. The second time I booked this apartment I was pleasantly surprised by it's wonderful renovations, increased amenities and as usual, lovely warm greetings and information from Claude. This will always be my home away from home in Paris.

My wife and I stayed this apartment for 6 nights in April 2009. We found the apartment quite comfortable and conveniently located. Claude was very helpful, courteous and replied to all our queries on email promptly. If you wish get a better idea of the location of apartment and its accessibility from various Metro stations, search '60 rue du Vertbois, Paris' on Google Maps France. For shopping for groceries, there are several Monoprix (a major French supermarket chain) outlets nearby. Réaumur - Sébastopol is a Metro station near the apartment, and when you come out of it, there is a Monoprix (at 95 boulevard Sébastopol) which is open Monday to Saturday: 9:00 to 22:00.There are also a couple of smaller shops on the street where the apartment is.We had a very pleasant stay, and would recommend the apartment for a short stay in Paris.

Dear Claude, Let me thank you for a very pleasant stay in Paris (despite the cold weather!). The studio was exactly what I was looking for (and with a very comfortable bed!) and bigger than I had expected. How nice to be able to cook a real meal and keep food cold! The details that you provided in the folder were very helpful for someone new to the neighborhood, although I wasn't able to find restaurant Julien, and I might add that I think that the Monorpix at the corner of Strasbourg-St. Denis is a bit closer and better than the one at Reamur-Sebastopol. Thanks, too for the free phone--very convenient! If Dick and I spend more than a few days in Paris on our next trip to France, which we hope to be next year, we'll definitely keep you in mind. I hope that I left everything in good condition.

It was great to come home each night to our 'home' & relax. The appartment is so homely & easy to live in - and also beautifully renovated! We also appreciated your pages of notes - very helpful - & it was so thoughtful of you to ring us up about daylight saving as we would have had no idea! Kind regards Barbara Alekna

We enjoyed our stay on Rue Vertbois. It was our "home" for 10 days. The location was wonderful, the neighborhood was safe and had everything we needed, 2 markets close by, and a 2 minute walk to the metro. Claude was a great hostess, waiting for us when we arrived, always available and helpful if we needed anything. The apartment felt comfortable, safe and spacious for myself, my daughter, and my friend. Great closet space and kitchen with everything we needed. We found the whole experience to be easy and comfortable, having never booked an apartment online before. Claude made it painless and pleasant!! Many thanks, we'll be back.

A friend and I stayed in this studio for a week. It is clean, functional and very accessible to many different Metro lines. We walked to Notre Dame our first night and it took about 20 minutes. Claude is very nice and willing to help in any way and make suggestions for things to do and places to dine. I would stay here again. Jennifer

Nothing bad to say about this place. Claude met us there right on time & had fresh flowers out. Plenty of room for my wife, my older daughter & me. Way better than the hotels I stayed in my last 2 Paris visits. It was priced right & Very clean. Very close to several Metro stops (trains ran every 2-4 minutes!) making it easy to get anywhere. We had a cold, wet, windy stay in Paris Mar 10-14 & it was great to have room to spread clothes out to dry! Thanks Claude.

My two teenaged daughters and I stayed in Mme. Tixier's apartment last week and had a wonderful stay in Paris. The apartment is clean and cozy, with a nice kitchen and bathroom with a great shower. The neighborhood is quiet and close to everything, and there are food stores and bakeries steps away. I would recommend this apartment to anyone, and hope to return someday. Merci, Claude!

We stayed with Mme Tixier in October 2007 and found her apartment to be very well located and well equipped. We spent 4 days after touring Europe for 3 months and were grateful for laundry and high speed internet. Our hostess was charming and most helpful during our stay. The metro is very close but the location is ideal for walking to many of the great attractions in Paris and we walked almost everywhere. As we have our own apartment in Cannes and often pass through Paris, we will stay here again and again.

What a fantastic week we spent in Paris. The apartment was just great and Claude was a most wonderful host. She was most helpful and took the time to make us feel at home. She provided us with some great hints and names of places to eat. The location of the apartment is very central but quiet. Despite the ongoing renovations to the hallway I would not hesitate in staying here again. Thanks again Claude for being such a great host and helping us enjoy a memorable week in Paris.

We visited Paris for 4 days and it was a most comfortable stay at this apartment. The apartment is spacious, clean and equipped with most of the basic stuff that you will need (even has an Internet connection though we didn't use it). The location is very central and close to a Metro station. The area is very safe and you feel comfortable walking around late in the night (even if in a slightly inebriated state) We have absolutely no complaints at all and would happily stay there again on our next trip to Paris.

Unfortunately we were only in Paris for two days, not nearly long enough as it turns out! We actually limited ourselves to only two days because of so many negative incounters we have had with parisians in the past both in Europe and the United States, but Claude changed our mind with in five minutes. The apartment was very comfortable, there was a real bed (not two twins put together as is common in Europe. Claude was very accommodating and helpful, she pull off a romantic suprise flawlessly! it was perfect. We loved staying here and will definitely come back. If you choose this apartment you won't be disappointed. And yes the renovations are still going on so don't be put off when you first walk into the building. This was a great choice. Thank you Claude for making our time in Paris so wonderful!

I stayed here for going on 4 weeks in August-September 2007 and the apartment was everything I had hoped. It is spacious, safe and close too metro stations and food shopping. Claude is very welcoming and helpful. I can recommend this apartment and will definitely try and stay here again when next I return to Paris. The hallway renovations are still ongoing.

Owner response:Thank you Gordon. The hallway renovation will be complete for Xmas. Please, come again. Claude

I stayed here with my 16 yr old son in April 2007 and it was a lovely experience. This spacious apartment with everything you would need to make your stay a pleasurable one. The location is perfect with the metro stations all around so you can get wherever you wish to go without any trouble whatsoever. This is a very nice area where you feel safe and secure, with shops being very convenient. Claude is a breath of fresh air, a lovely hostess who made you feel very welcome. I will be returning to Paris as I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I will be checking to see if Claude can accomodate. The renovations in the hallways are still going on but this did not impact our trip at all.

This is a lovely apartment and Claude was everything you could hope for and more in a hostess. She was extremely kind and helpful during our one week stay. The apartment itself was so spacious - much more than a hotel would be and for a bettter price! The wifi worked with no problems, and we didn't realize until we got there that long distance phone calls to the US were free - definitely a bonus! It's location also suited us perfectly, with about a 10 minute walk to the heart of Marais or Les Halles and Metro lines very close by. Just looking at these pictures online makes my heart ache to be back in Paris....

Owner response:Please, Emily and Justin, come back soon.

I have just got back from 4 days at this apartment and like the previous guests, have nothing but good things to say. Fantastic value, a perfect, cosy home from home which provided the perfect base for exploring Paris. Minutes from the river and The Marais, local markets and metro lines to all areas of Paris. I couldn't have asked for more - will definitely return when work allows! Claude was wonderful-friendly, accommodating, and attentive to her last minute guest-she couldn't have done more for me. Thanks for everything-I had a wonderful few days.

Stayed in the studio on Vertbois in October and loved it. On a quiet street and walking distance to everything. And if you don't like walking its a block away from the underground tram. Claude is great. She was at the studio when we arrived with maps and details of the studio. She checked on us periodically to make sure all was well. And the bed was very comfortable. I would stay again at this studio.

I stay twice a year in this apartment. Because I can spend very comfortable paris life. The room is very wide, and all things become complete. I feel that the washing machine and ADSL are especially convenient. The location is also wonderful! The apartment is in a very safe, quiet place. It is 1 minute on foot from the apartment to the supermarket! And, It is possible to go to the opera station soon by subway! Madam Claude will support all very kindly! Akiko from tokyo

The apartment was a great choice. Number one was the bed which was so comfortable..the apartment was clean, modern and had wonderful hardwood floors. The neighbourhood was safe and close to three metros, epecially the metro Republique which linked to so many other lines..the amenities e.g. iron desk television and kitchette were a bonus..It was a lucky find and the owner Claude was very helpful, spoke english and made my stay more enjoyable..definitely spacious enough, affordable and I highly recommend it after being in Europe three times. Thanks for the welcome stay Claude.

We stayed at the apartment in late May, 2006, and we have nothing but good things to say about this spacious little gem of an apartment and about Claude, who was a very gracious hostess to us. Not pictured on this Website is the most comfy bed we slept in during our 4-country eurotrip--what a nice surprise! This apt. was much better than any hotel room we've stayed in and much brighter than pictured. It's also convenient to just about everything--grocery: 50meters, bakery: 2 blocks, subway: 3 blocks, shopping: 2 blocks, and a park: end of street. We would definitely stay here again and we can't wait to see how the outside of the building will look when the renovation is complete!

Owner response:Please come back soon. The total renovation of the 18em century building is nearly completed. The area is getting so "chic" that Jean Paul Gaultier has move ad the corner of Vertbois/Saint Martin CHEER!
