Spoleto house description
Our house, which we call Casa Libertà, is a small stone cottage that dates back to the 14th century. It is located in Eggi, a castle village about 4 km outside Spoleto, Italy -- in the province of Perugia and the region of Umbria. The medieval castle wall of Eggi, with its tower, forms the border of our backyard.
We have lovingly restored our house over the past 20 years, using chestnut beams for the ceilings and hand-made Umbrian bricks for the floors.
Casa Libertà is not a stripped down rental property, it's our home where we have lived and worked for 17 years. We're sure you'll enjoy staying here.
Casa Libertà is available for a minimum rental period of one month.

My wife and I decided to spend time in Umbria, and ended up renting this wonderful home from Bruce and Joanna for a year. Jojo helped us get settled, and the following year was a wonderful experience in this charming village: Eggi. it is about 10 mins from Spoleto, which is full of art, music, and everything one could imagine in an Umbrian town. It is near the Sagrantino wine region ( Rosso di Montefalco), Assisi, Spello, Bevagna, and Perugia. By car, it is an easy drive from Rome, less than two hours- and by train about 1:20 mins.- easy to make a day trip. The Val Nerina, a spectacular valley lies on the other side of the ridge behind Eggi, offering world class hiking, biking (off road and road), climbing, and exploring. The house itself is a cozy, restored old home with beautiful views over the valley, a private yard with olive trees and outdoor dining. The bocci ball court provides hours of activity long into the night. One could not ask for a more well located and comfortable base from which to explore one of Italy's most wonderful areas.

Casa Liberta is much more than just a vacation rental. It is a way-of-life. If you are imagining a Roman Holiday, this is not the place for you. However, if you want to feel life radiating up from the earth, rediscover the luxury of 'taking your time,' reset your tastebuds, and feel like the world is in balance, there is no better place than Casa Liberta! When one thinks of a quaint little stone Italian farmhouse, they imagine looking inward to imagine the past. Yes. This was some family's home and stable for generations. Yes. The wood-fired oven in the front yard has baked countless loaves of Umbrian bread. Yes. The hearth in Casa Liberta had warmed many faces even before Columbus sailed to the New World. But this property is much more than its history. Every morning the sun rises and shines down on the Valle Spoletina. You can look outward from an upstairs window see the town of Montefalco floating like an island in a blanket of fog. The smell of olives embraces you. Down the lane that leads to the 14th-century church, someone is cooking lentil soup. Eggi is tucked in a green valley surrounded by olive groves, working farms, and chestnut woods. It is majestic in its humble simplicity. The medieval city of Spoleto is just a short walk over the hill, but you would never know it. There is bus service into town where you can grocery shop, visit the local butcher, catch a train to Rome, or kneel under a fresco by Lippi in the Duomo. This house has been meticulously renovated, with an eye for authenticity, but a soul for comfort. It is spacious, yet retains the sense of 'human scale' that makes one feel private and protected. You will want for nothing. The kitchen is very-well equipped, and the beds offer the soundest sleep you will ever know. The local tabacchi is really more like a well-stocked general store. Bruce and Jojo, the owners, want you to love their home as much as they do. It's easy.

About the owner: We moved from New York City to our house in Eggi in 1993. Eggi is a small, beautiful village with warm and friendly people. It's located in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains of central Italy. The modern world has not intruded too much on the way people do things here -- they still make their own wine, press their own olives, hunt for mushrooms and wild asparagus in the surrounding hills.
Why the Owner Chose Spoleto:
We didn't buy Casa Liberta as a vacation rental property. We bought it to live there.
