Villa was very clean & completely ready for occupancy upon arrival. Website photos and verbal description very accurate, no unpleasant surprises. Air conditioning was terrific! All beds, linens & towels clean and comfortable. Showers & bathrooms all nicely equipped. In suite washer & dryer was a nice touch. Lots of windows for plenty of natural light. Screen doors spoiled us with tropical smell of the air each night! All villa amenities & equipment were present and in good condition – aside from temperature fluctuation for the fridge, and icemaker couldn’t keep up. Also no instructions given for garbage day… Great villa location with amazing panoramic ocean view. Very clean, peaceful & tranquil resort, nice easy walk to reception office, beach & Piquante restaurant. Resort staff very knowledgeable and helpful in assisting with planning our excursions & activities. They also managed to get us a group discount for one of our excursions without us asking for it! Piquante restaurant did a wonderful job of grilling up some fresh caught Bluefin tuna – delicious! Meals at the restaurant were good and served quickly, along with refreshing drink service! Nice to enjoy the fun activities like salsa dancing as well. Daily pool cleaners & gardeners did a great job, were not intrusive at all. Great bird & monkey watching from our villa patio! Nightly raccoon visitors were entertaining too. Beach was also clean, no garbage or debris washed ashore, never crowded and very private beach. Enjoyable short taxi ride to Playa del Coco for entertainment, groceries & shopping. Ocotal is a great location for relaxation, yet close enough to Liberia airport and all amenities. We found that for our group of 6 adults it was more cost effective to take a taxi to town instead of renting a car. Plus all of our excursions included transportation. In every way, an excellent resort & villa!! We felt really safe and welcome everywhere we went. Would definitely recommend to anyone considering Costa Rica, and can’t wait to get back there again!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Wow! What a detailed review--thanks for sharing your experiences with us. Sounds like your group of six had a great time. Thanks for your patience with the ice maker--yes it does struggle at time, hence the "old fashioned" ice cube trays in the freezer. Sorry to hear there was a bit of confusion regarding garbage pick up--this information is usually in the welcome packet. I will add it to my information as well. Thanks again for taking the time to write the review. Happy travels! Mary

From the first glimpse as you round on the headlands on your trip from the airport, you will know that Villa Gecko was the right decision. Mary and her family will share their slice of heaven with you – the villa is perfect: heavenly beds and comfy furnishings inside and out, excellent kitchen, great and spectacular view of the ocean and the hills beyond (the beach view is obstructed but you won’t mind). Amazing feathery friends. It’s an easy trip into Playa del Coco for fresh local fruit and veg, stores well stocked with groceries and booze, blues on the beach. A perfect jumping off spot for many daytrips to National Parks etc (never seen such a great list of suggestions from a VRBO host). And at the end of the day, you can float around in the lit jewel of your own swimming pool. Don’t look further, just book it now.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks for your review. Nice to hear you think of Villa Gecko as a "tropical paradise!" So do we! Glad your family enjoyed it! Best wishes, Mary

We stayed at Villa Gecko in June and loved every minute of it. The accomodations were perfect for a family of 5 which includes 2 teenagers. The pool is amazing. It was so nice to wake up and go for a swim and lounge around listening to the monkeys and watching the birds. The view from the villa out to the beach and ocean is fabulous. If you did want to eat in, the kitchen was well stocked with everything you could think of. We took advantage of Picante, the restaurant on site which was super and the Father Rooster's, a 5 minute drive away. Before our trip, the owner was very helpful - lots of great tips and information that we definitely took advantage of. At Bahia Pez Vela, the staff were always friendly, helping us with our many questions and booking of tours. This was one of the best family vacations we have had in a long time.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: What a pleasure to read your review! I am so glad your family had a wonderful vacation! Thanks again for taking the time to write and share your experiences. Hopefully our paths with cross again. Pura Vida, Mary

We really enjoyed this Villa and the people that worked here. We had dinner at the restaurant the first night and it was the best food we had the whole trip. Ceasar and his team were awesome, answering any questions we had and making arrangements for the tours. The villa and the people that worked there made the trip for us! Also Mary was awesome, a real pleasure to do business with and gave us lots of useful information!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful review! It was a pleasure corresponding with you as well. Thank you for mentioning the resort's wonderful staff. Best wishes for many happy adventures in the future.

Our week at Villa Gecko was wonderful. The pictures and descriptions showed the condo accurately. It is spacious and immaculate. We loved the pool which has this charming gecko image set in tile at the bottom of the pool. The master bedroom on the second floor had a lovely little balcony which overlooks the rounds and out to the ocean. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and perfectly maintained. The owners provided us with so much pertinent information regarding tours, restaurants and general directions. In addition, Caesar in the office is very helpful. We ate several times at the on site restaurant/Picante. All was very fresh and nicely prepared. The wait staff there always made us feel so welcome. We also enjoyed the casual beach restaurant nearby called Father Rooster. In town the Pisces Restaurant at the Coco Bay Club was superb. A car here is essential but Villa Gecko/ Bahia Pez Vela is a wonderful place to return to following a fun day enjoyoing this area.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: We are so fortunate to have wonderful guests at Villa Gecko. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We are happy you enjoyed your stay in the villa and the resort. We think it is a special place indeed. Thank you for sharing! Happy travels!

This is our somewhere around our 10th VRBO that we have had in the past 4 years. Must say the facts sheet / thing to do sent out along with perfect driving instructions were about the best we have had. The villa is in a perfect spot, private pool , lovely vistas and howling monkeys in the morning (4:00) . All in all exactly as described with a excellent working kitched fully utensilized and seating / eating area adjacent. Do suggest taking the low tide walk around the beach over to the Father Rooster if the time of day works out, and perhaps going up to the Ochatal Club (in between the Villa and Father Rooster) for sunset cocktails - absolutely splendid. And, the owners were very good communicators / helpful in very way. And of course the proximity to the Liberia airport makes everything so much easier. 5 th VRBORecommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Hello Robert, Thank you for submitting this wonderful review! It is always nice to see our villa through someone else's eyes, plus it transports us to Villa Gecko for a mini vacation. Best wishes for continued successful VRBO travels. Mary

The property was exactly as described on the web site and contained all the comforts of home. It was an added bonus to have a pool right out the patio door. We loved the views overlooking the private cove and hearing the howler monkeys every morning at dawn. The owners sent us information to prepare for our visit and we throughly enjoyed our stay. The restaurant at the resort offered fabulous food and the service was outstanding. Everyone at the resort was extremely accomodating and assisted us on several occasions to arrange day trips and transportation to the airport. We loved the weather, the people and the villa we stayed in!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Dear S-, Thank you again for choosing our villa for your vacation. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed it as much as we do! Glad you liked the Costa Rican alarm clock--the howler monkeys! Best wishes, Mary

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and our first visit to a VBRO property. We were overjoyed with our stay. The place is stunningly beautiful. The listing cannot do justice to the view and feel when you visit this location. We spent nine days and everyday was a charm. The information from the owner was accurate and I felt that we had our personal concierge to plan our daily events. The maps, and restaurant recommendations were 100 % accurate. This was voted the best vacation of our life by our teenage daughters. One of them wanted to move to Costa Rica. I shall never stay at a hotel again on a long vacation. Do not think twice----- Visit this place and you will not regret it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Dear Jayesh, Thank you again for your heartwarming review our of villa. I especially enjoyed hearing that one of your daughters would like to move to Costa Rica! We couldn't receive a better endorsement than that! Best wishes to you and your family. Mary

First, if you are still just thinking about going to Costa Rica then stop. This is perhaps the cleanest country I have ever been in. I noticed how clean it was and then I started looking for trash along the road or in the waterways. It's hard to find. Also there were 6 of us there for a week. We ate and drank fairly indiscriminately and none got sick. We liked this property a lot. We traveled there with my son, daughter and their significant others. The place is clean and has all of the appliances that you really need although we never cooked anything more sophisticated than grilled ham and cheese. A real plus is the private pool. This property is part of a larger development and contains what appear to be somewhat similar unit. Few appear to have a private pool and that was very nice when you were tired and just wanted to hang out. The presence of multiple, similar units makes this a good choice for a more extended family gathering. There was only one negative and it is qualified. My daughter and her boyfriend stayed in the room with the two twin beds. He was a college first baseman so is not a small man. The twin beds were not a great fit for him. My daughter had no complaints. Because the sun sets early (no DST and close to the equator) I tended to go to bed early and get up at dawn. That is a great time to enjoy this place. There are howling monkeys in the jungle behind the villa. Very early in the morning you can hear them roar and spot them in the trees by looking for moving branches. Take your binoculars. I would answer yes to all of the questions listed in the Review Tips. Great things to do nearby. We went fishing on the Dream On. We boated three sailfish, hooked two, and raised one more. We also caught 3 20+ lb. Mahis. We kept one of those and had it for dinner two nights, one prepared by the facility restaurant. Rincon de la Vieja was fun. 90 minutes away. We did the white water tubing which was pretty intense this time of year. My 26 year old son was worried it would be lame but it is gorgeous and exciting. We all got dumped out of our tubes at least once. We also did the zip lining there which includes some interesting rock wall climbing. Important tip if you go there. Take some Clorox wet wipes to wipe out the helmets. The disinfectant they use stinks so bad it was making my wife nauseous and she had to take off the equipment. Father Roosters is a fun place to eat on the beach - look at the fishing boats.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Jack, Thank you again for choosing our villa for your family's vacation and for your comprehensive review--you really made the most of your time! Nice to hear you enjoyed the howler monkeys (we never get tired of seeing or hearing them either) and found the entire country to be clean and well cared for. It is a special place. Having a son who is 6' 5" we understand the challenges of twin beds! Thank you again for your review, I am sure our other guests will enjoy reading your detailed list of activities. Pura Vida, Mary
