Why stay anywhere else?
Why stay anywhere else?
Our family of five (kids aged: 13, 8 and 5) spent 3 weeks here from the end of July to mid-August and it was heavenly. Like the other reviewers have said, the photos on the website really don't do the place justice. The views are breathtaking and the property and home are very spacious. There is a lot of outside space which allowed us to be together as a family or have quiet, individual time as well. And every area is well equipped with comfortable furniture - from the loungers by the pool to the hammock and chairs on the decks. The house is extremely well stocked - sheets, swimming towels, kitchen appliances, etc. The master bed was super comfortable - slept better than I do at home! Every afternoon/evening a lovely breeze picks up and the temperature sitting on the deck or by the pool is perfect. And because the house sits above sea level - the no-see-ums and mosquitoes were not too bad - although wise to bring/buy Off. We spent a large part of our time just enjoying the house and the pool although did do a few excursions including a fabulous ziplining adventure with Pirates of the Caribbean. Highly recommend it. We bought fish and lobster from Jerry - the local fisherman who comes to the private beach - each week. That was a real treat and the kids loved hearing Jerry's stories of wrestling with sharks! Eldon's supermarket (25 min drive) is very well stocked and has everything you could find at home. If you are planning a trip to Roatan we would definitely recommend this property - particularly if you are looking for a place to wind down and spend quality together time. Honestly, why stay anywhere else?

Owner response: Kate thank you so much for taking the time to write about our home. IT makes me so happy when people enjoy it like we do. We hope you and your family will find your way back to us :)
Staying at this house helped contribute to the best vacation I’ve ever had! Three of us stayed for two weeks at the beginning of July. This house is definitely on the non-touristy side of the island – about 50 minutes from the airport, a little over an hour to West End, and a little bit longer to West Bay. We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle, and we definitely did! We were able to stop at Eldon’s Grocery store for most of our food items, about 30 min. from the house. (We also stopped at the Bulk Gourmet for some of our meats and hard-to-find items). The pictures on here do not do this place justice. The house was cleaned and pretty well stocked with whatever you could think of. The breeze was pretty much constant. The house has tons of windows and doors with screens and it really does a great job of maximizing the wind. Even when it was hot out, it always felt good on our deck or in the house. The master bedroom quarters are separated from the main house by a set of stairs so it’s very private. There is a sliding glass door that leads out to a separate deck. We spent most of our time on the outside deck off of the living room, which was perfect. It had comfortable furniture and it’s completely covered so we were able to get a break from the sun and the rain (which only happened twice). We actually brought our own hammocks from home and there were plenty of places to hang them up on the property. If we weren’t on the covered deck we were in the pool – it was much bigger than we had thought from the pictures and it was cleaned every day by the caretaker, Miguel. If you want sun there are lounge chairs by the pool. The view from the property and the pool is fantastic. We swam off the dock just once – there is sea grass and sand, not much to see. The reef is visible from the house but too far to swim. One day we rented a kayak from Marble Hill Farms (visible from the house) and paddled out to the reef, but even that was a bit rough due to the waves out there. The beach at the house is not one where you’d typically go and lay out, if that is your thing, but I don’t think you’d need to with the beautiful pool area. And if you do want some sand, there are plenty of great beaches on the island. You do not need a 4x4 vehicle to rent this house (unless maybe its rainy season, but I would just confirm with Cynthia). We rented a little Hyundai Elantra from Caribbean Rent a Car and it worked great for us. We drove further east past Punta Blanca to e

How soon before we can return?!
How soon before we can return?!
Renting a house based on pictures and reviews can be stressful but let me be the one to say that this rental is beyond what you could ask for. Not only did we breathe a sigh of relief but we giggled with 40 year old enthusiasm when we saw how truly private and beautiful the house and location were. The house has every amenity that one could wish for on vacation (except perhaps a cabana boy?). We enjoyed the luxury of our own kitchen, the relaxing deck and furniture to hang out on, the pool to relax in and around, and the sun rise as soon as you open your eyes! Even the breeze up on the hillside was a welcome respite from the sun and heat of the day. We were looking for an escape from the more touristy side of the island (we live in touristy ski country) and never even made our way to the west end. Everything we wanted in a vacation was right there. Diving with Tropical Island Divers was fantastic and we never saw another group of divers! Rum punch and chicken wings at La Sirena further east became a regular outing. We will definitely return to Total Devotion for another vacation soon!

This is the best vacation house, in a great location, surrounded by wonderful neighbors and scenery! Relax in the pool, snorkel off the dock, dive with Marble Hill Farms or rent a boat, buy fish from local fishermen right off the dock (negotiation of price is acceptable - 6" minimum for lobster tails to be legal). The East End is much quieter than the touristy West End. Frenchies 44 is good for lunch (I would skip the island there - pricey drinks, limited food options). Hole in the Wall is good for company, stories and food and drink. Overall a most relaxing place to be. I almost hesitate to share the secret!

My wife and I have just returned from a Two week stay at "Total Devotion," and we have become devoted fans. The house is ideally suited for a couple wishing privacy and quiet. The covered veranda was our usual hangout: high enough for a constant breeze, shaded, and away from Roatan's infamous sand flies. The neighbors were very friendly and invited us to the local "full moon" party. We had no security concerns. We rented a car from Dollars$ for the second week and had no trouble with the roads. However we didn't use the car very often; all the things we wanted were right there. The folks a Tropical Island Divers are only 400 yards away and will pick you up at the dock for diving. Several times we kayaked across the bay in the dark for dinner at Marble Hill Farms.

We absolutely loved our stay. This is a truly beautiful house in a fabulous setting. It overlooks a scenic bay, catches the trade winds so that air conditioning is totally superfluous, and is very private. It is even better than the pictures. Everything is clean, well maintained and in good taste. The house (main house plus separate master bedroom annex) sits on a bluff, about 64 steps above the small beaches and the pier. So you will get plenty of exercise in going up and down those steps every time you go down to the water. The caretaker, Ralph (who like all the locals we met is very friendly and helpful), provided us with two kayaks, which is a great way to get around the bay and out to the reef. Also, make sure you rent a good 4-wheel drive. Access to Punta Blanca is via some pretty bumpy and really steep dirt roads. The first time you drive down the final very steep concrete drive is looks pretty scary, but it is all perfectly safe and after a week is was totally routine. There is plenty to do on the island, and one of our highlights was swimming with the dolphins at Anthony's Caye. Overall, we had a blast during our week's stay and would recommend this place to anybody who is fit and adventurous, loves the water, great food and fantastic views.

My brother and I shared a wonderful 10-day retreat here, and couldn't have had a more relaxing, safe, and comfortable environment. And, the views are not describable!! The owners have anticipated everything one needs, and all we had to do was a little grocery shopping on our way in from the airport. If relaxing by the pool is your pleasure, this is the place for you! If diving in excellent waters is what your looking for, then this is the place for you! If you want fresh-caught fish delivered to your private dock, then this is the place for you!

Heaven on Earth

I just returned from a one week visit to this extraordinary home. It may well be the nicest place I've ever stayed. It's on the less populated East End of the island about a 50 minute drive from the crowds of West End. It's a simple, peaceful, secluded yet elegant island experience and the diving from near by Marble Hill is some of the best in the world. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

If peace and tranquility is what you seek in a supremely comfortable home, then you may never want to leave this place. Safe and friendly community, good neighbors, nice owners and caretakers...if you want to get out of the fray, enjoy some good convenient diving nearby and have seafood delivered to your door, then you can't beat it.
