Our nightly, per person rates depend upon specific reservation dates and the number of guests (ages 6 and older at the time of travel) in your party.
Generally speaking, our standard, non-holiday nightly rate falls between $100 and $165 USD per person per night.
Children under age 6 (at the time of travel) stay free of charge.
Seven night reservation rates include round trip ground transportation, private Mayan Chef preparing up to three exceptional daily meals (including cost of food), a starter beverage package, minimum staff gratuities and taxes.

I’m one of the luckiest bears around, and I’ve done quite a bit of traveling, but my recent trip to the ecologically-friendly Taninah in Playa del Carmen, Mexico was both more exciting and more relaxing than I could have imagined. The layout of the property was perfect for all the members of my group, with private guest houses for us to stay in, but plenty of places for us to congregate. The older bears enjoyed relaxing by the pool and hot tub, while the young cubs hid in the private cave and pretended like they were hibernating before sliding down the water slide into the crystal clear pool. The bear cubs were able to enjoy the in-ground trampoline, basketball court, treehouse, and sandbox, plus the game room, complete with pool table, ping pong, and air hockey, while the grown-up bears took advantage of the fitness center, library, putt putt course and driving range. One of the favorite activities for us bears of all ages was swinging down the zip-line on the property and letting the cool breezes whiz through our fur. Even if we never left the house, we would still “bearly” have enough time to take it all in!
Besides the exceptional amenities and the great location, what really set this vacation home apart from other homes we’ve stayed in are the owners and on-site staff. The homeowners have really taken care to preserve the natural surroundings while offering a completely unique experience for their guests. The staff is available to take care of your every need 24 hours a day from the very start of your trip.
When we’d arrive back at the house after a day of excursions the staff was waiting with cool washcloths on silver platters – we bears aren’t used to this kind of red-carpet treatment! After a full day, we would head into our dens for the night, and find that our beds were prepared with turn-down service. All in all, the availability of the staff and the privacy of the home made for the utmost in relaxation, yet the convenience to nearby activities and all the amenities at the property kept us on the go!

- Air Conditioning : It would be a shame for anyone to miss-out on an unforgettable Taninah experience due to one or more misconceptions about our property. For this reason, we implore you to read scanned images of our previous guests hand-written reviews at taninah dot com. We have built our guest houses in a way that maximizes comfort by using cross ventilation, we've built our structures under tall trees (maximizing shade potential), and we've used proper building materials and techniques to ensure a cool environment. In addition, our guest houses are furnished with floor and/or ceiling fans. All of these make it not uncommon to have guests turn fans off (even in the summer) due to how cool our guest houses can get at night. We completely understand why people's perception would be that it might be too hot or too uncomfortable; however, we believe it would be a shame to skip the opportunity of a Taninah experience based on this misconception.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
In 1997 we decided to look for property in Mexico's famed Riviera Maya near Playa del Carmen.
At the time, we lived in Playa and our initial intention was to buy a small parcel we could develop for a weekend home...a place we could go to escape from Playa del Carmen’s ever growing popularity and explosive growth.
In October of 1998, despite the fact we still did not have an access road, we started clearing our property. This meant hiking nearly two miles through dense jungle on narrow surveyor's paths while carrying whatever tools and supplies were required to get the job done.
Just eight months after the first underbrush was cleared, we finished the initial incarnation of our dream which included the Casa, basic landscaping and our original pool area.
Over the years (guided by the desire to create the perfect, most ideal place for our own family) we have continually made improvements and added elements to Taninah.
On the surface, we are certain that you and your family will enjoy our unique and exotic guest houses along with all the fun and exciting installations and amenities we've added; however, our deepest desire is that the natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and unforgettable ambiance of Taninah will revitalize your souls as it has ours.

My name is Marino and along with my wife Kathy, daughter Alana, and two sons, Anastazi and Kiani we created and operate Taninah.
In the Mayan language, “Taninah” loosely translates to “first home.” It seemed the perfect name, as we were the first to build a home in the pristine virgin Mayan jungle.
Taninah started out as our private family weekend retreat. The more time we spent on our property, the more we liked it and the more we developed it.
In creating Taninah we were very mindful and respectful. Our simple goal was to enhance the natural beauty of this magical place with as little impact as possible.
Ultimately, we limited development to just 2.5 % of our property’s total surface area.
We purposefully utilized naturally present and renewable material whenever possible.
In an effort to be as ecologically responsible as possible, we also incorporated the use of solar energy, built zero discharge composting toilets, utilize energy efficient lights and appliances, compost organic kitchen and garden waste, and recycle as much paper, plastic, aluminum and glass waste as possible.
After years of enjoying Taninah as our private retreat, it seemed a natural transition for us to offer Taninah as a rental property so others could enjoy it as much as we do.

In addition, guests can feel great about supporting an environmentally responsible, low impact resort helping sustain this beautiful region of Mexico for generations to come.

We rented this property out with our friends for our wedding week. We had the most amazing time. There was a lot to do on the property although it was not easy getting trips off the property which had to be planned in advance and were not always on time. I would suggest each party renting a car or van that would fit all their guests and that would make it much easier. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff was extremely helpful and courteous! We actually arranged our schedules not to miss one of the delicious meals! This was the trip of a lifetime and we certainly hope to return. Our love to all the guys and the animals!

We just returned from our fourth multi-generational family vacation at Taninah so tanned and relaxed we can hardly write the review! Imagine waking up in a private jungle villa to the sound of wild parrots, taking a morning swim in the fresh water cenote (cave with stalagmites and stalactites), and then walking to the outdoor kitchen for fresh squeezed orange juice, Mexican coffee and a full breakfast. Between the delicious Mexican/Mayan meals, you can swim in the pool, soak in the hot tub, walk on the jungle path or play miniature golf. There is also a game room, library, gym, basketball court, zip line, and in ground trampoline, and it is all for just your family. My teenagers loved the water slide, ping pong and pool tables, the trips to adventure parks and beaches, and the in-home theatre. My sister’s younger kids couldn’t get enough of the jungle gyms, board games, air hockey, and playing soccer with the staff. Meanwhile, my parents loved lying in the hammocks, reading by the pool and taking long walks. For me, the magic was having all the meals, chores and planning taken care of, so that every day stretched in front of me with the question “What do I feel like doing today?”. If you are considering a vacation at Taninah – just do it. It is a one of a kind opportunity for privacy, adventure and fun. At night, after the staff has turned down your beds and the kids are asleep, walk outside, look up into millions of stars and hear the night sounds of the jungle. I guarantee you will know you made the right choice.
