I normally do not write reviews but for the location and quaity of the aparment I found the price second to none thus the 5 stars. It's centrally located in Boston, you can walk to almost anywhere but Cambridge, which is still a possibility if you are up for a long walk. There is a wonderful deli market right around the corner along with numerous restaurants as well. The apartment was clean and had a wonderful feel overall, especially with hardwoods throughout. I would say the pictures on vrbo do not really do the apartment justice. There are 2 bedrooms but also an air mattress and pull out sofa so 6 guests can fit very comfortable. The owner James was great to work with as well. If you are looking for a great value I highly recommend this place.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Our family stayed here for a few days while visiting Boston. We were very happy with it. The flat was comfortable and equipped with what we wanted, and the location was excellent. Nice area, easy walk to downtown, some nice places to eat and shop in the general vicinity (we went to a very good Thai place). The bedrooms weren't huge, but they were big enough. Equally, the flat isn't super glamorous and new, but it was clean and in good shape. Warning if you are not fit - the flat is a couple of floors up and the stairs are narrow. Lugging a suitcase up can be tricky. Overall we were very satisfied.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My boyfriend and I stayed here with another couple and we had a fantastic time. When we pulled on to the street we were all pleased with the neighbourhood, Gorgeous, tree-sheltered, quiet Dwight Street was just perfect for us. The location was perfect! We were within walking distance from everything, including awesome Newbury Street shopping, Fenway Park, Beacon Hill, Commons Park and more. The apartment itself is the perfect size for 4 guests, but is able to sleep as many as 8. There is a large bathroom with a vintage claw-foot tub. The apartment is decorated well with old style furniture and warm colours. I would absolutely recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a wonderful stay in Boston (which is an awesome city!!!)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The moment we entered (2nd door deadbolt duct taped on) it did not smell like charm at all, it had just not been cleaned in who knows how long. Floors to celings dirty. Curtains & window frames..nasty. Blinds for most windows would not even work, windows almost impossible to open it you even wanted to touch them. The apt was very cute and looked so charming but it to was filthly.... the rugs, oven, frig and every base board from the floor up was really filthly! The bath room was the worst. We cleaned the cabinets and drawers before we would put our things in them. I know it's old but it does not have to be filthy. The shower curtain and mat even had mold on them. I would guess that the covers on the beds had not been laundered for some time. The sheets were clean (we really checked them out). The morning we were leaving we stripped our beds, under my sheet was a zippered mattress enclosure for the entire matterss. OMG! I took pictures of it because it even had some hair left on it along with who knows what! Under the beds had not been cleaned at all. I dropped an earring and it rolled under the bed.... I just left it there it was so filthly! I am a hiker, camper and outdoors person so a bit of dirt doesn't bother me, but this place was nasty. My 80yr old mother, my sister and I stayed for a week and we did like the location it was so close to everything...even a old, old bar about 4 doors down, let's just say not perfect for a good nights sleep every night. If this entire building had some pro cleaning and a few repairs it would have been almost perfect. We will not be staying there again nor will I mention it to anyone I know. Boston is beautiful, stay somewhere nice.Recommended for: Pet owners
Owner response: I remember this guest. She stayed for one week with her mother and sister. During the reservation period we spoke by telephone several times and we had established a good rapport. She stayed for a week and never called to complain about anything, never emailed. She knew (from our phone conversations) that I live in the building so she could have even knocked on my door. So this review is a total surprise. If things were this bad, would you have called? Of course you would. I really don't know what motivation drives this person but her comments are just all lies. She had only paid the deposit (50%) and she had paid using a credit card which she could have easily had reversed. Our welcome letter states that we would process the balance against the same card unless otherwise directed (we usually wait 48 hours to give the guests a chance to call) - she never called. I would ask our vacationers to take a quick look at the other reviews and I think there can only be one conclusion - what a strange review!!!

This place was cozy and a delightful place to stay! After being used to staying at hotels when on trips, this had a much more relaxed and welcoming vibe than your typical hotel room. I wouldn't qualify the apartment as being modern, but it does have an older charm which my wife and I really took pleasure in. With a sofa bed and an inflatable mattress provided, our little family of four (plus an extra guest) had no issues with room to move about. I don't think I need to go on and on about the location except to say that if we return to Boston in the near future and need a place to stay, this will be the first on our list.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car.

We spent 5 days exploring historic Boston in October. This apartment was in an ideal location for this purpose. It was very comfortable for 2 couples, and we enjoyed the historic house. The cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants practically right outside our door made it the perfect location for us. We didn't rent a car, and easily used the buses and subway. We'd stay again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had five days here in April 2010 and it was ideal for us and our two teenage sons. The apartment is charming and well equipped. It is close to all the Boston tourist attractions and has many good restaurants and food shops nearby. We arrived by train (Amtrak) and it was just 10 minutes away. We dealt directly with the owner who was very helpful and most professional.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was a great apartment for our stay in Boston, perfectly situated for exploring the South End and within easy walking distance of Back Bay Station and a number of stops on the T. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the area and the apartment is really close to a great deli if you don't want to go out. This was the first time that a number of the people I was travelling with had been to Boston and they all agreed that this was a really good base to explore the city. The apartment is more than big enough for two couples and was clean and well maintained. Booking was really simple and the owner was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this apartment to friends and will be stopping here if it is available next time I am in Boston.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Great location and interesting building. However, this apartment is not worth the money. It has all the comforts of home, but it needs a lot of TLC to make it worth the nightly rate. The entryway smells musty and needs basic maintenance. In the appartment: the toilet leaked on to the floor from the bowl when it was fulshed, there are mice in the kitchen, and it is very dark inside inspite of the on-line photos' sun-filled rooms. The landlord, a very nice man, was responsive to our calls and tried to fix the problems, but for a short term rental situation there was little that could be done and he offered no money back. We choose not to make a big deal about it because we were on vacation and we could not afford the time or money to relocate. We did not really like hanging out or cooking there so we did not save money on food by cooking in as we thought we would. We had other accomodation options at this price range, but thought, based on the posted reviews and photos ,that this one was ideal; in some ways it was, but... we never got comfortable.Owner response: This guest (parents with two teenage daughters) stayed for five days. There was a mouse during their visit. I received a voicemail at 10.00 pm on Day 2 saying that they had seen a mouse. The following day we addressed the issue with traps and bait. On Day 4, I received a voicemail (again at 10.00 pm ??) stating that the toilet was leaking but that they had put a towel down. The following morning I found that the toilet bowl was loose from the floor flange and a small leak of water occurred at the end of each flush. I repositioned the toilet and secured the flange nuts – no more leak, and finished by 10.00 am. The entryway does not smell musty – indeed the stairs carpet had been shampooed top-to-bottom the day before this guest arrived. The guest states that we “need a lot of TLC” but provides no specifics, so I can’t address that topic in any detail. I am the cleaning crew, I am the maintenance crew. I live here, this is my home and I take good care of it. This guest stayed in our second floor apartment and it is not dark. We have 10 ft ceilings with large windows throughout. The front gets early morning sun and the back gets afternoon and evening sun. The on-line photos are accurate. This guest states that they did not “hang” or “cook” in the apartment – the trash and unwashed kitchenware (there is a dishwasher) left behind on their departure would challenge that statement. He states that we “offered no money back” but fails to state that he had received a $200 discount at time of reservation. It was apparent is our last telephone conversation that it was his goal to get an additional discount. He wrote this negative and inaccurate review when he failed in achieving that goal. We are grateful that the vast majority of our guests are great folk who thoroughly enjoy their visit with us. We hope that any potential guest will look at the other reviews on this website that we have received and make their judgment with those in mind. We look forward to having you visit with us soon. Happy Vacationing.

This is such a good location - right in the heart of the south end with its restaurants and bars. Close to the market and easy to walk to almost anywhere in boston. Felt really safe at all times. Found the antique furniture nice to look at but a bit uncomfortable to sit on to watch TV hence the good rather than excellent mark. Exceelent value for money for families.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Great location and neighborhood. Everything needed nearby, walking distance. Great parks for kids, restaurants, grocery nearby. Good vibe, artsy. Perfect for families, or for adults only. Close walk to downtown and all sites. Car is good, but not necessary. Parking nearby, although a little expensive (unless you are from NYC). Apartment is very functional.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The apartment was very nice and charming in a great neighborhood (bars and restaurants around the corner but the apartment was very quiet). The owner was very accomodating and helpful! The only little negative: if you stay there with more than 4 people: the sleeping couch was uncomfortable. Overall a great place to stay. Parking in the area is a hassle.
