Are you looking for the perfect location to spend in the sun away from the cold of winter? Then "Birds of Paradise" is ideal. Situated in the Eastern part of beautiful Sanibel Island you’ll find this charming 1,500 sq ft single floor cottage/bungalow that will easily accommodate six.
This area of Sanibel is renown for being beautiful and quiet and having little of the traffic that slows other parts of the island during peak season. The house is in a private cul-de-sac with easy access to San Carlos Bay and the Gulf, shops, the Lighthouse & famous fishing pier, and is only a mile from the Causeway for quick and easy access to Ft. Myers & mainland Florida.
Entering this spotless home is easy as there are no stairs. In 2002, the whole house and its three bedrooms and two bathrooms were completely renovated and remodeled – new beds, appliances, furniture etc etc. Full length windows run along the entire length making the house bright, airy and tropical. Fans and central air conditioning keep the rooms nice and cool. The house has been freshly painted in 2008 and decks renovated.
Recently added wireless broadband will allow you to keep in touch with friends and family from any part of the property.
You must see the garden. The large lot is bursting with mature established tropical plants: Birds of Paradise, Sea Grapes & Coconut palms to name but a few - perfect for sitting on the deck and whiling away hours in the sunshine. The driveway can easily accommodate parking for four cars or a boat.
At the entrance to the lane you’ll find several small shops providing most of the essentials to make your stay truly relaxing: The famous “Light House Cafe” for a great meal, the similarly famous “Pinocchio’s” home made ice cream, and the "East End Deli" where you can pick up the fixings for a wonderful picnic.
If you fancy fishing, the island’s famous fishing pier is a short walk along the Bay where everyone meets to fish and talk. Whether you wish to participate or just watch, you’ll be amazed to see the size and diversity of fish being caught (and often released): Snook, Mangrove Snapper, Redfish, Mackerel and many others

We are a family of four, including two teenagers, that came to the US from the UK 15 years ago on a two year work assignment. Looks like we're staying!
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
After falling in love with Sanibel in 1990 we always said that if we could we would one day buy a house here. We returned in 2002 to find that nothing had changed in all that time and we loved it even more for that reason alone. As a family we have created our own memories on Sanibel; Thanksgiving- the tree lighting and fireworks at Tween Waters, Christmas- Christmas Eve service on the beach. We love the East End, coming from the causeway we turn left to our own little secret; quiet and as near to both the bay and gulf as you could possibly be. Hard to believe that some folk never even discover the East End!
The Unique Benefits of this House
One favorite activity is walking from the bay side right round the end of the island on the sand to the gulf. On the way we stop off to watch the day's fishing activity at the pier and look for shells, manatees, starfish etc. Then get an ice cream from Pinocchios or collect lunch from the East End Deli as a treat. It takes about an hour depending on what you find or who you meet on the way!
