Indulge yourself in this charming cabin-like home in the Lake Almanor Country Club that offers the best of both worlds. Located on a .5 acre wooded lot on a quiet cul-de sac street. No neighbor's homes are visible from the house or the 2 (TWO) expansive decks.....they run the length of the house! Enjoy dramatic sunset views of the lake from the decks or from any room on the main floor of the house. When you're in the mood to play, take advantage of the 9 hole golf course, tennis courts, or 2 sandy beach areas ..all located within the Country Club. Nearby is Mount Lassen National Park ...described by Sunset magazine as "California's Hidden Treasure....the West's most beautiful, least visited wonderland ". In the winter, there is near-by snowmobiling, hunting, snow-shoeing, Nordic skiing and even a small downhill ski area....not Tahoe but good family fun!
And of course there's boating...sailing, power, kayaking or jet-skis. For boat owners, you can rent a slip at the nearby marine (daily or weekly) or launch daily from the country club's ramps ( about 1 mile away from Rec. Area 1 & Rec. Area 2). Off street parking for trailer/boat available on the property.
We've gone to great lengths to make sure you will have all that you might need to be comfortable...from family games and reading materials to wine glasses! DVD and VCR (how old school) players and Wi-Fi available through-out. So, come enjoy.

We had a great stay in this beautiful home. It was cozy, comfortable and fit our needs in every way. The decks were wonderful, and we ate most of our meals outside. The property was clean and well maintained. The house was actually bigger than we expected. The owner was GREAT and always very helpful. Hope to get back there again SOON! We had a wonderful time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

The home was all I'd hoped for and more. While it's set in a country club neighborhood, it's very private and really no houses are visible from the decks. It was spotlessly clean and very well stocked in the kitchen. It was cool when we were there so we didn't get to enjoy being on the lake, but we definitely enjoyed the views of it from the deck. The owners gave us a nice welcome surprise and called to make sure all was well and were very responsive throughout the whole process. We'll definitely be back and I recommend this place very highly.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed at the cabin with another family over the Presidents weekend of 2012. The home easily accommodated all of us and was fully stocked with needed items. The wives were especially happy with the wine basket we found upon our arrival! Tom (the owner) was very easy to work with and answered all questions quickly; he even called once we arrived to make sure everything was ok. I would definitely recommend this place as an affordable and clean place to stay. Thanks again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

I am so happy to be able to plan an annual trip to this wonderful destination. The 'lodge' suited us to a tee. We were out and about on our days, and so happy to come back to the house for the afternoon/evenings. For dinner, every night, we would all sit at the table and have a wonderful, leisurely meal together, which is a true luxury in these fast paced lives we all seem to live these days. Which brings me to cooking- you have everything (some x2) a cook could dream of needing. Great fun! The boys would choose the day's activities one day, the girls the next. The boys always chose the lake, the girls like hiking and exploring new places. I don't think we can run out of itineraries of places to see- the books you have at the house are great references. Lastly, thank-you so much for our welcome bag, such special treats. They were greatly appreciated and our vacation was started by such a warm, fun, sweet, spicy start!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I also was at the Longshot Lodge recently, and was VERY impressed! The Lodge is located in a wooded setting, and is charming and comfortable. Like others have mentioned, I remember walking into the house and noticed the stone fireplace and the tall ceilings – and then I was immediately drawn to the huge deck outside. The deck is wide, and extended the entire length of the house! I was there for several days with six new friends, and we spent most of our time out on the deck relaxing, joking and gazing at the trees and the view of the lake. In fact, we ate our meals on the deck, and remained there chatting until late in the evenings. A hammock on the deck also allowed for several afternoon naps. I enjoyed watching the trees move in the breeze and gazing at the stars at night. The Lodge has everything we needed- a kitchen with all appliances, including a microwave and a dishwasher – which got a good workout while we were there! The three downstairs bedrooms all have sliding glass doors that open out to another large deck. The house is well laid out, and allowed people to take a nap or read downstairs away from the conversations upstairs. There is even a laundry room with a washer and dryer downstairs. The large living room with huge windows has a comfortable couch and chairs, a large stone fireplace and a television. We did not watch TV at all, and spent most of our time out on the deck chatting and laughing. Having Wi-Fi was a nice touch for those moments when I felt the need to check in on the first day. I ended up turning off the I-Phone and enjoyed being out of reach for a few days while at the Longshot Lodge! I really enjoyed my four days at the Longshot Lodge, and I would highly recommend staying there!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Spent three nights at Longshot Lodge with friends over the Labor Day weekend. For a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area, this is the perfect place. Travel time from the Bay Area to the Lodge is about 4.5 hours, however there are many places to stop along the way if you prefer a more leisurely trip. The Lodge is located at the beautiful Lake Almanor country club which offers boating, beaches, tennis, golf, nearby restaurants and stores. Chester and Westwood are the major towns in the area and only a few minutes away. Lassen National Park is about 30 minutes away - we spent one full day up there taking in all the natural beauty ($10 per car entrance fee). The Lodge itself is - as it says - a secluded home in the trees. Well off the road way, the quiet around the house will astound you. The house was recently refurbished and has a full size living and dining area with a beautiful natural rock fireplace. A small but very functional kitchen is on the same level along with a bedroom and en suite bath. Downstairs are an additional three bedrooms, one with enough floor space for a couple of additional sleeping bag/air mattresses. There is another full bath downstairs and a full laundry. The highlight is the outside deck - where we spent breakfasts and dinners - overlooking the trees and lake. It is plush with patio furniture and can easily accommodate 10 to 12 for meals or gatherings. A bonus is the deck outside the bedrooms on the lower level. Overall the house is clean, modern and inviting. TV and WiFi are available and the kitchen comes with microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, flat top stove and oven and garbage disposal. Best of all seems to be the beds - between the mountain air, the quiet and the comfortable beds, sleep was awesome. I would without hesitation choose Longshot Lodge again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I had a great time at the cabin. It is everything I thought it would be and more. When you drive up to the cabin, it is down a long curving driveway and hidden in the trees. When you walk up the stairs to the living room, you do not notice the cabin at all. Your eyes are completely drawn to the view. The view is spectacular! Trees and lake and sky is all you see. I think I stood outside on that huge deck for a full 20 minutes before I went back inside to check out the cabin. The cabin is cozy and warm and BIG. I was there with six other people for four days and I never felt crowded. Between the decks upstairs and downstairs, private bedrooms and a large yard, there is plenty of room to spread out. The location is a quick drive to the dock and beach, but far enough away to afford a wonderful, quiet weekend on the lake. I very much appreciated the cabin is not walking distance from the dock. I enjoyed our time outon the water, but I also enjoyed leaving the noise to go back to the serenity of the cabin. The layout affords almost complete privacy from neighbors. Over the Labor Day weekend, we managed to go boating multiple times, visit Lassen National Park, go hiking through a lava cave. We barbequeued, cooked, ate, drank and none of it was rushed. I managed to read a quarter of my book that weekend and the entire weekend seemed like a lazy walk. It was a perfect getaway. The cabin is beautiful, clean and well furnished. There is even a hammock on the upper deck. The only reason to look elsewhere is if this place is booked already.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week stay at this wonderful home. It's an all around excellent place for outdoor activity or for absolut decadent relaxation. Quiet, woodsy, but still within easy distance of dinning, activities, etc. We did some hiking and nature watching, but also caught up on reading, BBQing, and playing my guitar. The owners are exceptional and attentive to detail. And Long Shot Lodge is the best stocked VRBO we've seen yet! Big thanks for the down time. We needed it! My husband and two daughters thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We loved all the little details the owners put into ensuring that their guests have a good stay (including a little surprise gift, that I won't ruin for future guests). They had a binder full of resources (where to go/what to do), which came in handy. The house, itself, was clean, charming and was *more* than enough room for just the four of us. The kids liked being able to play outside, and we, the parents, liked knowing that they were safe (as the house is not set right on the street). Even though this was a "getaway" for us, it was very helpful to have the wi-fi available! I wish I were back there right now swinging on the hammock again! We would highly recommend!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

I had a great weekend in this house! It was quiet and private. The large decks on both levels were just perfect for relaxing and taking in nature and the lake view. The house is large, we never felt crowded, which I have in other places. I loved the fireplace in the living room, it made for several cozy evenings. It was nice to have the large screen television upstairs for movie watching, yet downstairs it was so quiet that I could read a book undisturbed. We took our boat out on the lake and had a great day waterskiing. Almanor has great water for recreation activities. I returned home rested and refreshed. I will absolutely return to his great getaway.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: I enjoy the "great outdoors" and all the activities that it has to offer...in all seasons. Enjoy working hard and playing hard. Have done a fair amount of travel but its always nice to have a peaceful retreat to return home to as well.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Almanor Peninsula:
The Lake Almanor area offers the best of all possible worlds. Lots to do outdoors , with beautiful scenery but not over developed like Tahoe. Ample snow in the winter and yet warm water in the summer. Lassen National Park is nearby is rated one of the least visited National Park in the US ( means less crowded !!)
