This 2 bedroom, 2 bath log cabin is centrally located in the town of South Fork, Colorado, located at the confluence of the Rio Grande and its south fork. South Fork marks the southern end of Colorado's historic Silver Thread Scenic Byway .
The cabin is in the established Ponderosa neighborhood, where there are lots of big trees, open spaces and friendly neighbors! The area is a favorite for wildlife — do not be surprised to find deer visiting the front yard or an occasional bear touring the neighborhood!
The cabin can sleep 7. One bedroom includes a queen—sized bed and the other includes two bunk sets — one with twin—sized beds on top and bottom; the other with a twin—sized bed on top and a full—sized bed on bottom.
Amenities include a wood stove in the living room, a fully—equipped kitchen with microwave, a separate dining room with seating for 8, a washer and dryer, an outdoor grill, wireless internet, a TV and a huge selection of DVDs for viewing.
The cabin is just 3 minutes to the Rio Grande River and a boat ramp for access to rafting and world class, Gold Medal trout fishing. Don’t have a boat or don’t know how to fish? Hire an experienced outfitter for a river float or learn how to fly fish with an experienced guide on the 47 tributaries and 500 miles of fishing streams between South Fork and the far headwaters of the Rio Grande.
From the cabin, you can also walk to the train station for a scenic and leisurely morning train ride to Wagon Wheel Gap and Cotton Wood Cove for lunch.
There are miles of trails in nearby National Forest for hiking, biking, hunting and ATVing in summer and snowmobiling in winter.
Drive 20 minutes to Wolf Creek Ski Area. Known for always having the most snow in Colorado, Wolf Creek has terrain that varies from gentle beginner slopes to steep and deep expert terrain. The ski area provides world—class skiing without the prices of world—class lift passes! Many skiers feel that, as a ski area, Wolf Creek is Colorado’s best kept secret.
There is golfing at the semi—private Rio Grande Club, South Fork’s world—class 18—hole golf course. The golf course spans nearly 300 acres and is surrounded on three sides by state, BLM and National Forest lands. There are eight miles of paved cart paths that wind across the river and back and are surrounded by towering ponderosa pines, aspens, spruce and ancient rock palisades created during the last Ice Age. The clubhouse features a restaurant for a lovely dining experience and a lounge for a drink and amazing mountain views.
Stay at this cabin and access much of southwestern Colorado: Wheeler Geologic Area National Monument; Creede and the world—class Creede Repertory Theater; Pagosa Springs and its therapeutic hot mineral springs; Durango and nearby.
