We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at White Pines, the cottage was lovely, the price was definitely affordable and the view was spectacular. We were able to ride our ATV's all over the area (when it wasn't raining - not their fault!) and take in the fall colours and some beautiful little lakes and towns. We would definitely return to this cottage, but while we were out, we were looking for one of our own, so Kathy and Roger might just end up being our neighbors!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We had a wonderful time at White Pines Cottage on Harper Lake. The owners have covered all of their bases. Even the little things have been thought of- there is a binder in the kitchen with Mapquest directions to all local eateries, stores, and funspots. We saw tons of wildlife during our stay, including Albino Deer, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Heron, and the Harper Lake Loon. The swimmng is not great for young kids (ours are 8 and 10) right off shore, but we used the paddle boat and went out a ways and they had a blast. Everyone on the lake was very friendly. Our first day the neighbors told us we cold use their raft for swimming and offered us on a pontoon boat ride. The owners of White Pines, Kathy and Roger, were fantastic hosts and went above and beyond the call to make our week enjoyable. The area is so quiet and peaceful that it is diffucult to survive a day without a nap! Not a bad problem to have while on vacation!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

This Cottage was just what Hubby and I needed. It was nestled in the woods, and the only sounds we heard were from the wild life. We spent most of our evenings sitting out on the huge deck that looks out onto Harper Lake. There we seen Spuirrels, Chipmonks, Wood Peckers, Blue Jays, and even an Eagle. The one night we were there just as it was getting Dusk we seen a Doe coming through the woods as she made her way down to the Lake. It was spacious enough for just the two of us, but could have easily accomidated many others. There was a loft upstairs and a bedroom just off of the living room downstairs. We chose the bedroom downstairs as we didnt want to climb the stairs to the loft.=) Another thing that we liked about the Cottage was its location...It was real close to Dublin. Where the Dublin General Store is located. They have every kind of jerky you could imagine there. We also went to Manistee (which was but a 35 minute drive) . We would definately come back again, and will definately tell our friends about "White Pines Cottage"Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

This was our 2nd year vacationing at this cottage. We had another great time, our kids are in their early 20's and they brought their friends, all of them had a blast on the lake. Cottage is neat and clean with all the comforts of home. We saw bald eagles fly over the cottage several times and even a rare white deer. Owners are very nice and easy to work with and we will surely recommend this to others.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

If you are looking for a comfortable, private cottage for a wonderful family vacation on a peaceful lake, look no further than the White Pines. The cottage itself was much roomier than expected (plenty of room for a family of four with two teenage children), and was made very comfortable with personal touches from the obviously attentive owners Kathy and Roger. The sizable deck offered peaceful mornings sipping tea, and the private and secluded lake frontage was perfect for a swim, to drop in a line, or a nighttime gathering at the fire pit. The lake, although not large, lacked any substantial boat traffic and the private dock was perfect to keep the jet ski we had rented and had delivered out to the cottage. In the area we found plenty to keep us busy for the week. At nearby Wolf Lake, we rented ATV's and explored the miles upon miles of groomed Lake County trails. It was a blast. Also close by, the Pine River provided our family with a wonderfully relaxing trip kayaking the day away. For a day trip, we drove to the Sleeping Bear dunes and explored that area as well as the Traverse City area. Both worth the visit and not too far a drive. The owners of White Pines, Kathy and Roger, were fantastic hosts and went above and beyond the call to make our week enjoyable. They even insisted the use of their bikes when they heard my wife was unable to bring her's on the vacation. A great place at a great price. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Northern Michigan.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Owner info

About the owner: We are working professionals who are extremely busy with work, families, and friends. When the weekends roll around, we head up to our favorite lake 'up-north.' When we are not entertaining, we love to take advantage of the lake as we canoe, kayak, and boat.
Why the Owner Chose Irons:
Our family has been retreating to Harper Lake for the past 30 years. We have found Harper Lake to be one of the most relaxing places to unwind and de-stress after a busy workweek. Nothing beats the soothing nature of being on the water and the tranquility of star-gazing away from city lights. In August, the aurora borealis display is awesome! We bought our cottage because it is an easy drive from home and the perfect getaway from the busyness of our normal lives.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The wooded setting with the private lake frontage creates a beautiful view no matter what window we look out. Our most favorite ritual is going for a walk around the lake each morning sipping our favorite coffee. We love this location because it is surrounded by national forest and recreation areas - all of which are beautiful places to hike and walk.
