The Cottage is a wonderful 120 yr old waterfront cottage set on the banks of the beautiful Tchefuncte River in St. Tammany Parish. LA. Centrally located on the north shore of New Orleans, you will find yourself a mere 4 miles from historic downtown Covington, 5 miles from the oak covered lake community of Mandeville, 7 miles from the waterfront village of Madisonville and 45 minutes from downtown New Orleans. Shopping and Dining opportunities are abundant in any direction should you choose to venture out of this river-side oasis.
Wake up and have that first cup of coffee in your robe as you greet the morning on your private 1000 sq. ft. deck extending over the Tchefuncte River and watch the boats calmly pass on the water. Soak up the sun on the deck, hang your legs over the dock and fish, read a book, or just enjoy the quiet. The possibilities are endless.
The cottage affords you your own private acre and comfortable arrangements for 2. The structure being 120 years old boasts double cypress walls hand assembled with square nails that remain in the building to this day. Built on the site of one of the first man made swimming pools in the southern United States. The cottage has served dutifully in its role as a place of recreation and relaxation for over a century.
Past guests who have stayed will sometimes call just to ask how the cottage is doing while still more return to enjoy the unique environment time and again. I booked this Unique Cottage after a stay in the French Quarters. I thought it would be a nice and relaxing way to end a very busy, late nights, partying, few days in the Quarters. I didn't tell my husband where we were staying next because I was afraid that if he saw the cottage and how small it was he wouldn't want to stay. Now if you ask him "what was the highlight of his vacation" he says "staying in that little cottage by the river". We both really loved it, it is small but the outdoor space and river makes up for the limited space inside. It was very clean, with high end touches, the owner did a Great job. We may not remember every hotel that we stayed in on vacation but we will never forget this Unique Little Cottage on the River, a place where special memories are made. We stayed here in June 2011, it was such a relaxing place to stay, the river and the property with just so beautiful. The cottage was cozy and was a great place to get away from the city, but yet close enough to go eat at some very nice restaurants close by. I highly recommend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
