Bears Hearth - the Gathering Place for Your Family
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Our family has enjoyed gathering at this mountain chalet since we first purchased it in July 2001. The main floor has a large common area where you will find 2 sofas with the entertainment center; 2 overstuffed chairs in a sitting/reading area in front of the stone hearth fireplace; and two dining tables with adequate seating for 14. In the midst of the common area, behind the fireplace is where you will find a fully stocked kitchen (cook not provided!)
Also on the main floor are 4 of the bedrooms - 3 with King Size beds and 1 full size. There are two full bathrooms on this level. As you go downstairs in the back of the chalet, you will enter the game room where you will find a pool table and a sleeper sofa with a cable TV and DVD player. There are two bedrooms on this level - 1 King and 1 Full. The downstairs level also has a bathroom as well as a laundry room with a washer and dryer.
As you exit the game room, you will see the large hot tub located on the lower deck. This octagon-shaped chalet has a large deck that wraps around 5 sides on the main level. Here is where you will locate a charcoal grill, a picnic table and some various deck furniture for your enjoyment.
We frequently see bears especially in summer and fall months. We have been visited by a mother bear and her 3 cubs on more than one occasion! Our hope for you is that your 'family' will enjoy the time you share in our home as much as we do - play games together, gaze at a starry sky from the hot tub, talk about your dreams, make memories, enjoy!

Great location, perfect cabin layout, well maintained, the best matresses of any cabin we've ever rented, well stocked. We've rented cabins in Gatlinburg for years and this was the best value we've ever had. Can't wait to return!Recommended for: Families with teenagers.

Our family spent 4 days of New Years week at the Bear's Hearth and we had so much fun. The foot of snow made the first trek up the mountain rather scary but once we were there we had a blast. Our four grown children, their spouses, and children joined us and the snow made for some fun sledding right out back. The boys brought 2 sleds. We brought groceries and cooked our meals in, since Gatlinburg was very crowded that week. We made the kitchen "one way" and had fun serving buffet style meals for our crowd. (brought a lot of paper goods to cut down on the dishes) There is plenty of room for a busy family at Bear's Hearth. We had fun playing pool, in the hot tub, playing games, (the kids brought the Wii), and just hanging out. The ice skating rink up at the ski resort was a big hit. The ski slopes were crowded at the times that we were there but I think the afternoon skiing would be fine. On new Years Eve we walked to the end of the cul de sac and watched the fireworks shooting from the space needle. Beautiful. Wonderful family time. Our gift to each other this Christmas. ps The owner is very helpful and nice to deal with.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

We vacationed there the last week of June in 2010 and the place was absolutely perfect for our 4 families. We had 8 adults and 7 children under the age of 8. There were 4 bedrooms upstairs with 2 bathrooms to share and 2 more bedrooms downstairs with another bathroom to share. The home was safe for young kids and enjoyable for the older adults. We enjoyed using the pool table, basketball hoop and hot tub. We also had access to a community pool for free which was a great place to take the kids for an afternoon. At the community pool the adults and children also appreciated the use of a tennis court, playground and ping pong table. We really found that the pictures on the website doesn't show you what a nice size this place is for multiple families. We had enough room to have community dinners every night and the kids had enough room to play during the day. The bedrooms were all in a separate hallway so we were able to hang out in the common area and allow the kids to sleep. All of the families thought that we got a steal renting this chalet. The price was perfect and the amenities suited us well. The owners were also very helpful before and during our vacation by giving us suggestions of places to visit and purchase food. Thank you for giving our families a chance to see Gatlinburg TN. If we ever do come back to the area (we would like to travel to a different spot in the US every year) we will definitely rent this chalet again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: Bears Hearth is owned by 3 couples from Taylorsville, Kentucky: Dwayne and Mary Lynn Martin, Dwight and Carla Martin, and Tony and Janie Mathre. Dwight is a retired firefighter from the City of Louisville Fire Department. He and Carla own a heating and air conditioning company as well as a screen-print and sign shop. Dwayne is a firefighter for the City of Louisville and Mary Lynn is a high school math teacher. Tony works for the Ford Motor Company and Janie is a social worker for the Department of Families and Children. Among us we have 11 children (counting in-laws) and 6 grandchildren.
Why the Owner Chose Other Gatlinburg Properties:
Our family has had many vacation adventures together (Disney World; Washington, DC; Watertown, NY; New York City; to name a few). One of our favorite places on earth is this Chalet in Gatlinburg! We can stay in and watch for bears strolling down the driveway, play games, or soak up the mountain sounds from the hot tub. There are so many fun and interesting things to do in the area. Dwight and I like to go into the park and hike. Dwayne and Mary Lynn enjoy antiquing, mini-golf and go-carts. Tony and Janie like to visit the unique shops in Gatlinburg. We all like to eat!
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
One of the advantages of staying with us is that we are members of the Chalet Village Owners clubs which offer 3 locations for your convenience. There are pools at each location as well as various other amenities such as tennis courts, ping pong tables, foosball, pool tables and playground.
