We were quite pleasantly surprised at the cabin and look forward to staying again! Though it appears tiny in the photos it is surprisingly spacious. The unit was very clean and had a cozy feel to it. It is conveniently located in town but tucked away from the highway so that it is quiet. I find the previous complaints surprising because we honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about it - the kitchen is well stocked for cooking/dining, the seating/beds are comfortable, the bathroom is huge, there is a barbecue outside for grilling and a furnished deck overlooking the forest which is also provides a perfect seating area for star gazing. My husband was initially concerned about the absence of television stations, but once there, it was not missed at all. There is so much to do, we didn't have time for television. One suggestion for travelers - bring a portable radio/alarm clock if you enjoy ambient noise. That worked like a charm for us. It was truly an enjoyable stay and I would like to say a big "Thank you" to Kathie! It was a such a pleasure to meet her! She was so very kind and welcoming, it was apparent that ensuring you have a positive stay is important to her. Her graciousness combined with all the personal touches in the cabin, and the fact that it is affordably priced made it a perfect stay for us and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone. Things to check out in the area: Hungry Horse Dam (beautiful), Montana Vortex (unique), Amazing Fun Center & Big Sky Waterproof (great places to bring kids), HuckLand & Huckleberry Patch (yummy) and of course Glacier National Park/Whitefish Lake/Lone Pine State Park (all incredible natural areas)Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: WOW! My hard work pays off. What a flattering review! I am grateful for the Five Star rating and the generous compliments. I will continue to strive to make all our guests feel just as welcome and comfortable. Kathie

It's an okay place to stay. There is a hole in the floor as soon as you walk in so be careful not to fall through. It has the flooring over it but you can tell that the supporting floor is missing. The tub doesn't drain well. I had old water come back up as I was taking my first shower there. Also, I'm not sure they clean it as often as they should. Upon arriving, I took my shoes off (habit) and walked around for a few minutes checking out the place. Yes, my socks were almost black after that. After that I didn't go barefoot in the cabin. Its not a hotel, I realize that, but there are some things that could be done to make it even better. We only used it for a place to sleep and for that, it served its purpose.Owner response: We are sorry that this individual found some drawbacks with the cabin. If you would like to contact us we can provide you with much positive feedback from our 2011 guests. Unfortunatally it seems to be those with negative feedback who take the time to write a review. A subfloor problem did develop in the summer of 2011, we apoligize for that. We will be installing new wood floors in the cabin in preparation for the 2012 season. Sincerely, James Willows

My wife and I recently stayed in the cottage while visiting GNP. Cottage served us wonderfully during our stay! While we spent most of our time climbing hills and wandering trails, it was comforting to have a place to return to that was convenient and accommodating. Lot's of great places to eat near by as well. Nice place, would recommend!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the kind words. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay and pleased to know that you would recommend staying at the cabin.

Myself and my family enjoyed staying in this cozy cabin 4 days in august 2011. This cabin is not very luxurious however for an average traveler/hiker it is a perfect place to stay after Glacier NP hikes. I disagree with previous reviewers, I found this cabin clean and conveniently located. Owner is very nice and accommodating. If you plan to visit Glacier NP this cabin is a good choice.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.

This was a very convenient home base for our travels both to Glacier Park and to the Whitefish area. We found the cabin to be clean and very adequate at a price that was lower than even the area motels. We enjoyed the Willows family and their friendly son Abe. We were very satisfied with the spacious cabin with nice mountain views.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This is a clean little cottage which took care of our nightly comfort and late afternoon rest. Most of the nights that we stayed in July, there was a cool mountain fresh cross wind that came through the screened windows which made sleeping very enjoyable. The bathroom was larger than I first thought, it is larger than a normal motel's bathroom, maybe twice that size. With the extra little sleeper bed that is in the bathroom for a child which can be moved for even more room. Although, we laid out our clothes on this (roll a way) for changing after bathing or showering. Now about the water provided to this cottage, if your like me, coming from a big city and you can smell city water (like chlorine) then you will love this water. The kitchen area with stove, full size refrigerator, good size sink, plates, some cooking pans and cooking utensils, plastic ware and small dish drain rack. We also did most of our fishing about a mile and half away and we caught so many fish between 1.5 lb to about 7.5 lbs most around 2 lbs. We found our stay to be very restful and worth every penny and then some ! I hope this helps all of you that are looking for a good honest place to stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Most active people like this guy don't bother writing a review but I'm so happy someone actually wrote down what many tell us which is that this is a very nice cabin and is nicely located.

VRBO Rental # 283338 July 8, 2010 As stated in the VRBO overview, this cabin in Hungry Horse is located in an ideal location for exploring Glacier National Park -- close enough to make frequent trips into the park practical. Food -- including a pretty good little grocery -- and services are convenient and close by. Before our stay, we were concerned by a less than positive review left by some renters who had just stayed in the other cabin on the property. We spoke with the owner before our arrival, and were assured that some of the problems mentioned in the review would be remedied: no glasses or silverware, no cooking utensils or coffee pot, dirty sheets, etc… We arrived to find a brand new coffee pot, plenty of cups, glasses, and dishes, new microwave, a new box of plastic silverware, clean sheets – although we were happy we had brought our own pillows, as the ones provided were covered with pillow shams and not inviting to sleep on – and other amenities like paper towels, toilet paper and new hand soaps. The owner was further willing to work with us to help make the cabin a safer and more inviting place with the addition of a bedside table and lamp. But, to be truthful, we did find some problems that were not resolved during our visit. When we left, we provided a long list (four typed pages) of corrections and improvements we’d like to see before we would stay in the facility again, including: securing the bathroom lavatory to the wall; repair of the hot water tank, which began to leak while we were there; addition of broom and cleaning supplies; a bathmat for the tub; a retractable clothes line for drying clothes; more supplies to make the kitchen ‘complete' – cutting board, strainer, large pot, etc.; elimination of ants; proper installation of the bathroom door; a guest handbook giving basic local information on emergencies and routine matters, etc. (There didn’t seem to be anyone in charge, nor a pre-determined schedule for taking care of cleaning and garbage removal. The young people who worked for the owner in the Huckleberry Factory were very kind and helpful when approached, but were mostly not prepared to take care of housekeeping needs and emergencies. Pamela, though, was both helpful and competent.) We received a pleasant and grateful e-mail from the owners saying that they appreciated the input and that they would get to work on our suggestions. We hope so, as we’d love to visit again if these items were corrected.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: ""We welcome input from guests and want future guests to be happy. Here is how we have responded to this visitor's suggestions; 1. We did fix the tiny leak behind the hot water heater 2. Health Dept. did not recommend we use a bath mat as the nearly new tub/shower is already textured on the bottom 3. Most guests just use the nearby laundromat so we did not feel a retractable indoor clothes drying line was needed. 4. The bathroom lav. is already secured by 2 large lag bolts which go through the porcelain which meet plumbing code requirements (It's a modern looking lav that is stylistic so maybe the guest did not realize it was properly secured) 5. We are not like a motel which cleans the room daily. We instruct guests to bring extra trash 250 feet to the Huckland establishment where they can also exchange old towels for new. 6. We are rather new to the VRBO scene and will be doing more comprehensive training of our workers to establish continuity of practice that will help them assist guests more knowledgably. Most of our guests enjoy the cabin and Glacier Park rather than spending their vacation typing four pages of needed corrections. Is the cup half empty or half full? It depends on what your focus is.

About the owner: Hi, My name is Kathie Salandi. This spring I began a new job, I manage the rental of this cozy vacation cabin. I enjoy the work very much. My favorite part is meeting new people from interesting places. I've lived in Hungry Horse all of my life. I feel privileged to live in the beauty of northwest Montana. We have extreme weather and terrain, the opportunities for extreme adventure are unlimited . By having a couple horses and having a yearning for adventure myself, I have spent more than one night under the stars near some mountain lake or river. Sometimes it even snowed. If that sound just a little primitive for you you could stay in the cozy cabin.
Why the Owner Chose Hungry Horse:
Glacier National Park, west entrance - 9 miles
Hungry Horse Reservoir and Recreational Area - 4 miles
Confluence Flathead Rivers 1 mile, easy hike or bike up river approximately 2 miles.
