This home is everything shown and more. It is beautiful and decorated wonderfully. The garage is stocked full of bikes, kayaks, crab traps, boogie boards etc. A few negatives - the streets in the development are gravel so young kids may have a hard time riding a bike. We never found a place to bring the kayaks in the creek so we took one down to the beach on top of our SUV. The day before we left we found a fitness trail that winds around the creek. The entrance is across the empty lot in front of the house. The owner does take time to get back to you but she will respond. The beach is terrific. The water was clean and we went swimming just about everyday. On the one rainy day we drove over to the VA Air and Space Museum and then stopped at VA Beach on the way back. Great day. Loved Cape Charles. It is definitely low key but that is what we wanted. We saw cars from Canada, OH, MI, ID and WI so this is a quiet treasure for sure.

Owner response: Thank you for your review, the kayaks can be put in at the creek directly behind the house, during high tide, the kayaks are not only meant to be used at the creek, they can be used at the beach and many other areas in Cape Charles. The road in the subdivision is a packed down, tiny pebbles, my children and renters have been riding it for years with no concerns.
Just as promised; we loved it!
Just as promised; we loved it!
Everything is just as is shown in the photos and the descriptions are quite accurate as well. We had an easy "check in", everything (*) was clean and lovely. The house is comfortable, spacious and up to date. We had a small issue with the wrong sheets (if you rent linens, they will be lying on the beds for you to put on the beds yourselves), but it was quickly resolved by calling Kim, the home owner. I asked about using spices and condiments and she said that was ok (there is other food in the cabinets, etc, but I assumed that they were their own and we did not use them). The pool is not far at all and we were usually the only ones using it. The kayaks are a nice addition, as well as the crab traps. The water way out back is a little murky but my son enjoyed paddling out to the bay (not just a quick trip though) to meet us at the beach. The beach was not busy and easy to drive to. We enjoyed the little quiet town. Be careful entering town; the speed limit drops quickly and I got pulled over by the ever present police cruiser, but he was so kind to let me off with a warning! He didn't have to tell me twice!! We had 9 adults and 4 kids and we had plenty of room (using the futon on the main floor). We even had one empty bed upstairs. Although initially I had lots of questions and didn't really get a quick and clear response each time, I eventually got them all answered and I realized the home owner is a busy person but is a woman of her word....all was just as she said. We were given a very fair price and we loved our week there! (* the only thing that could have been cleaner was the drawers in a bathroom...kind of hairy...and the bathroom mats were shook but not washed....but we didn't need the drawers anyway and the mats weren't gross...I'm sure it would be difficult to wash them between guests, especially when we wanted to check in as soon as possible. ) The sheets and towels are all white and new looking. The sheets are micro fiber...not cotton...some in our group didn't care for them but they weren't bad at all. The pillow cases have a plastic cover (sanitary reasons, I'm sure) which is kind of crinkly to sleep with...might want to bring your own pillows if that would be an issue for you. Overall, we were very pleased and would highly recommend this home!

Owner response: Thank you for your comment, I m happy you enjoyed your stay, the plastic covers are most certainly for sanitizing reasons. The sheets are a satteen sheets, seems to verify soft.

The only negative about our stay in Cape Charles was that it was too short. The house is lovely and perfect for our family vacation, which included 6 adults and our 4 grandchildren, all under 8. A real plus was having kayaks, bikes, fishing gear and our all time favorite, crabbing pots. We have never stayed in the same house two years in a row, but we are looking forward to staying in Mako on the Bay again next year. The neighborhood is quiet, friendly and the community pool and tennis courts are very close to the house and never crowded. The owner answered all my many questions about the area, having never been there before.

Quiet Relaxing Vacation
Quiet Relaxing Vacation
In July of 2010 I rented this home with my neighbor. We consisted of 3 adults, 4 teenagers, 2 preteens, and 1 child. Needless to say, everyone enjoyed themselves (especially the teenagers). There is kayaking, fishing and crabbing right off the docks behind the house. There is a clamming beach about 2.5 miles from the house. This beach is perfect if you like to clam or have infants and toddlers that may be intimidated by large waves. The beach was clean. It is a hike however to Virginia Beach (45 minutes) where you do have to pay a toll to cross the bridge/tunnel. The house is in a friendly quiet neighborhood environment. It is also away from any large noisy crowds of people and traffic. A short drive away you will find a grocery store, post office, marina, restaurants and shopping. I would highly reccomend this house for a large family with children of different ages. There was always something to do or entertain them with. The only negative comments...electric stove tops suck when your a cook, there was only two twin beds not four and our Fidelco Foster Puppy couldn't enjoy Cape Charles and Virginia with us. Overall, we all had a very enjoyable week here and would definately love too come back again.
