CASA DEL REY: Beautiful Roatan island home constructed of native wood nestled in picturesqe Jonesville Bight far from the tourist crowd. This is the natural wood home pictured above the two blue buildings. The home has 2 bedrooms, each with a closet and bathroom, separated by the common area to ensure privacy. Common area has full furnished kitchen, futon and loft which will sleep four additional people. This is a unique opportunity to live among the local islanders and experience their gracious hospitality and casual lifestyle. The property is boat access only with local boatmen to supply transportation to nearby attractions. Within this bight are the famous Hole-In-The-Wall and several other restaurants. Minutes away are dive sites and shops, mangrove tour, and historic Oakridge, with ground taxi access to the rest of Roatan Island.
The home is fully equipped with a gas stove, refrigerator and everything you need to prepare and store food. There are two bedrooms and a loft. Each room has a full size bed and a full bathroom with a shower. The loft provides for additional sleeping area. Sliding glass doors open out to a deck area. The common room has a futon that folds out to another bed. There are ceiling fans in every room. A clothes washer and\or laundry service is also available.
The home is boat access only. Please send us your itinerary and we can make arrangements for transporting you from the airport to the house. Transportation to the house from the airport includes a car ride to the Oakridge water taxi stand and/or nearby boat dock and a boat ride from that location to the house. Our representative will meet you at the airport and take you to the boat. Our boatman will then transport you to the house. Transit time from the airport to the boat taxi stand is about 30 minutes and the boat ride from there to the house is about 15 minutes. We recommend you stop at the grocery store in French Harbour to get some food supplies on your way from the airport to Oakridge, however there are 2 small grocery stores in Jonesville for a more local (and limited) experience. Transport from the airport to the boat dock will be approximately $25.00 USD. During your stay our boatman will transport you wherever you need to go. Prior arrangements should be made to ensure availability. He lives in the home directly in front of the Casa Del Rey at water's edge. Our boatman will accept any gratuity you choose to give. The suggested gratuity is $10.00 USD or 200 Lempiras. The currency in Honduras is the Lempira and the exchange rate is approximately 19 to 20 Lempira to a U.S. dollar. There is an ATM at the airport that may be used to withdraw funds in Lempiras, although US dollars are readily accepted, you will need small bills $10 and $20 are best. Our representative can answer other questions you may have.

We stayed for a month and had a wonderfull time, there local caretaker took us where ever we wanted when ever we wanted to go. We caught most of our own food, experianced the local culter and all in all had a wonderfull time. Would highly recomend.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Each time people stay at our house, I learn more about Roatan and Honduras and all the wonderful experiences there are. It also makes me realize how great the local residents are and how much they have to offer our guests. This is truly experiencing the real Roatan.

Thank you so much for sharing your Roatan home with us—it was truly Paradise. We began to feel like locals before the 2 weeks were up. We made such good friends—Shannon and his family, Angie and her family, Keith, Flaco, and of course Bob and the gang at the Hole in the Wall. Your place was great.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

Rates
$425/week for up to two people. $550.00/week for three people or more. 7 nights. 50% down to initiate a reservation. Balance to be received 30 days prior to arrival. All cancelations are to be made in writing and received 60 days prior to arrival. The deposit payment is refundable if the cancellation requirement is met. If the cancellation is received after said period, the reservation May be re-scheduled within six months subject to availability.

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: My brother Captain Mike and I are citizens of the United States and discovered Roatan more than four years ago. We are primarily interested in diving, snorkeling, boating and fishing. Since we are newcomers to the island we are still learning about Roatan. Our island neighbors have always warmly welcomed us and have consistently been available to lend a helping hand when needed. We just finished building the house in January 2009 and are constantly making improvements. We are open to any suggestions you may have. Please feel free to let us know what you think. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we always do.

We chose this location to build this home because it is in a remote, undeveloped part of the island away from the tourist areas. We were looking for and found an authentic island experience where we could develop relationships with the local people and contribute to the island community in a meaningful way.
