We literally just got back to the east coast, but couldn't resist leaving an excellent review for Lolly's rental in Ben lomond. We had everything we could possibly need to have family and friends come visit and the beautiful meadow was such fun to explore with the kids. I enjoyed cooking with her herb garden and it made us feel like this was a second home. We will certainly use this as our retreat when we come visit friends and family in the near future again.

My husband and I just returned from a lovely "birthday" weekend at Lolly and Lindley's cozy mountain retreat. We had a nice family gathering and everyone loved the place. So now we are looking at the calendar to book another stay there. The house itself has a fully stocked kitchen to cook to your hearts content, there is a terrific grocery store-Ben Lomond Market- a couple of miles away that has everything you need to make those wonderful meals. The beds were very comfy so we ended up sleeping in. Since the evening time was a bit chilly we turned on the heaters which heated the house very well. All in all it was a wonderful stay, Lolly and Lindley are very kind and accommodating.

The Owner was very communicative and responsible to our needs; as well as having pride of ownership in this clean and well cared for property. The location on a private dead end road was quiet and comfortable. Our grandchildren (7 and 3) loved staying with us a few nights and enjoyed playing in the meadow as well as the herb and vegetable garden despite the cold December weather. Our dogs were happy and comfortable as well. We look forward to coming back.

Owner response: Evelyn and Cliff, I loved your story about harvesting and tasting "herbsicles" (frozen herbs) in the garden with the kids. Your granddaughter sounds like she took full creative advantage of her new surroundings. Thank you for taking the time to comment on the house, we will look forward to hearing back from you. PS. We arrived at the house after Christmas to find the baby lettuce in good shape, what a surprise. I was sure it would be toast.

My husband and I are trilled to have found this gem in the mountains of Santa Cruz. We spent a week with our young adult children there, cooking, playing board games, sitting by the fire, the meditation garden and walking the trails. Super cozy and comfortable, we really didn't want to leave at the end of our week =). The house feels like a HOME, it has an amazing inviting and loving energy that embraces you as soon as you walk in. We definitely will be back!!

A great place to stay. And so quiet at night, with a sky full of stars. We fit eight people in the house, four adults and four kids. Had daytime barbeques at the picnic table out back, toasted marshmallows in the fire pit, and enjoyed romping in the sandy back yard when the house got too crowded. I was pleased to find a little hiking trail at the top of the road, with a view over the valley. A pleasant stay, and we recommend the house to everyone.

Your place was charming, quiet and a wonderful place for the family to be together! We enjoyed our stay and we were so happy for the wonderful weather that we could sit outside for most of our days. The grandsons loved the big field area for them to play in and play catch with their Dad. Thank you so much for sharing your place. I will recommend it to anyone who asks and is headed your way. I do hope the 'Barn Raising' was a success. Thank you again.

Owner response: We are glad your time in the Santa Cruz Mountains was so special. Yes there is plenty of room in the meadow to get a baseball game going. Funny you mentioned the barn raising, the foundation was poured and now we have a great play room located at the edge of the property. There is also now a pretty little garden near the kitchen where people seem to enjoy moving the barbecue. We'd love to have you back!

We were in Santa Cruz to attend our niece's wedding. We really enjoyed the peaceful setting and it was great that it was only a couple miles to the park where the wedding was at. We wish we would have had more time to explore, but hey it gives us a good reason to come back! Lolly was great in communicating about the home and letting us know what was going on in the area for fun and food. We really liked Don Quixote's for lunch (wish we could have seen a show!) along with the Trout Farm. Rocky's was great for breakfast. Would definitely recommend this property.

These notes really help people understand more about the experience they may have. Sometimes the draw of the beach overshadows the wonders of the giant redwoods and mountain wineries. The stars tonight are bright. A few more new adventures for next time include: Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Watsonville Stawberry Festival, Oloha Outrigger Races and Polynesian Festival, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Wednesday Night Sailboat Races,

What stood out most to us about this property was its location. I loved that it was so dog friendly with the slider opening to a small fenced gravel yard out front. We loved walking in the neighborhood to the Quail Hollow Reserve which offers a lovely path for dogs and humans alike. The highlight of the bungalow is the oak outside the living room area. When you look out, it feels like you are in a treehouse. Just stunning. The bungalow is small, but cozy. The owner was helpful in giving background and details. A few small frustrations. Dealing with the entry code--we were not able to get until literally the last day. I've never had that happen, and would have appreciated having that sooner. Nevertheless, we got in, and felt the bungalow was a good fit for this trip. It did get warm one night and we did not know they had air, but apparently they do so take advantage of that if it gets warm. Lolly was very attentive, which we appreciated, and I would definitely recommend the bungalow to others.

Our recent stay at the Ben Lomond Bungalow was fabulous! The property and amenities were just as described on the website. The house was clean and comfortable, providing everything needed to feel right at home. The owners were extremely helpful, providing tons of information regarding fun things to see and do nearby, as well as great places to eat. They were also very quick to respond to specific questions we had. An added bonus is that the security deposit has already been returned to my account. Our three night stay was great, we would definitely return and would definitely recommend to others who plan to vacation in the area. Thanks for the great stay.

                              Year Purchased: 1978

About the owner: Please take a peak at our family album seen in a linked youtube slide show. Let us help you find the hidden paths around Santa Cruz and the San Lorenzo Valley. Our family enjoys the central coast region and has for more than a century. When at work, we are a university professor teaching architectual history, and a maritime-historian working in a national museum, but our heart belongs to the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Why the Owner Chose Santa Cruz:
We chose this property 35 years ago, partly because of the open flat sunny meadow surrounded by forests with distant mountain views and partly because the geology is as varied in each direction as the potential activities nearby. The Oak Tree on this property speaks for it self, it is AMAZING, as are the birds who come to rest. Once in the house you may not want to leave but the redwood forests, beaches, and cities of San Francisco, Monterey, Carmel, San Jose, Palo Alto and Sunnyvale are all with in reach; but we are FREE of traffic, noise, and grime. The fully refurbished club pool is a mile away, a little further is a great community lake where you purchase a fishing license and rent small fishing craft, or canoes. Now you have the chance to enjoy our hard work great neighbors, trails, and access to every thing on the central coast including the zip line at Mt Herman as you move from platform to platform through the tree top canopy. Ben Lomond Bungalow, in Santa Cruz Mountains is place that defines California Central Coast living at its best and the line between indoor and outdoor living spaces dissolve.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Behind the property you will find Quail Hollow Ranch, an equestrian park, first developed by the founders of Sunset Magazine as their weekend home. The trails around the ranch will lead you past a pond, year round streams and a host of wildlife. The rich and varied history of the region is so much fun to learn it does not seem 'educational. Recognized as one of the most significant biological treasures in the state of California, the Zyante Sandhills Zone support a unique community of plants and animals found only in Santa Cruz County. We are close to many state parks and the redwood trees beaches and fun and creative shopping areas; however, if you are not able to escape leave work, satellite conference rooms and office space is available within two miles.
