July 19th-26th Now Open! Reclaimed Barn on Lake Superior Sleeps 20

The Lake Superior Barn is a 4,250 sq. foot home with 4 bathrooms and accommodations to easily sleep 20 people in the 6 bedrooms and 15 beds…. It is designed to accommodate multiple families with open bathrooms and individual toilets and showers. The home is just 30 minutes east of Duluth on the sandy south shore of Lake Superior.
Lake Superior Barn stands on 320 acres of remote wilderness and sandy beach. The home sits on the south shore of Lake Superior, staring across the lake to the North Shore cities of Duluth and Two Harbors whose lights twinkle in the distance at night. The property is completely surrounded by the Brule River State Forest so there is not another home on the Lake Superior shoreline for miles… Enjoy the secluded sandy beach or walk it like an ocean looking for beach-glass. Listen to the waves crash or swim in the cleanest of all the Great Lakes where the temperature can reach 60 or 70 degrees in the shallow, sandy bottom water. Warm up to a driftwood fire or roast s'mores on the waterfront.
Once back to the house, wash the sand off your feet in the outside shower while taking in the 180 degree view of Lake Superior. Enjoy the 1600 sq foot reclaimed deck just outside the beautiful kitchen and a pantry with all the extra ingredients and spices you may have forgotten. Build a fire with firewood provided in the stone fireplace or lay in a bean bag and pick a book to read from the stocked bookshelves in the loft. Lake Superior Barn has 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3 showers built from the reclaimed lumber, steel and nails of 7 turn of the century Minnesota barns. The game room has radiant concrete heat to warm your toes as you play ping pong, Foosball or lounge on the couch to watch a movie
The Lake Superior Barn is a unique and rustic experience... there is a TV, but no satellite or cable TV... plenty of cards, books and boardgames! We do have APPLE TV... like a large iPod with movies, TV shows & music.
On the 320 acres of forest, there are trails through the woods and bridges over Haukkula Creek that flows the length of the property. Camp overnight in the authentic, 400 sq foot canvas tipi within view of the house. Pick raspberries and wild strawberries in the summer or snowshoe the woods and trails in the winter… either way, you will never encounter another person on the private and secluded land. End the day by building a fire while overlooking Lake Superior and watch the summer sun set over the hills of Duluth.

I arranged for out of town family to meet up for 3 days of quiet and solitude. We made a peaceful drive over the river and through the woods to "grandma's house", the GPS did not know the way so we called the helpful caretaker........next time i'll follow the written directions:) We drove up a long mile gravel road to behold a beautiful and solitude Barn Home that met and exceeded expectations. We all enjoyed some great down time from a busy life to spend as a family playing games, reading books and just chatting over dinner. We had fun getting the wood hot tub going, the only thing missing was carrots and potatoes to make human stew:) We took long walks along the southern shore of lake superior and our plan was to go into town for dinner one night, but everybody voted to stay inside and just hang out. I not only highly recommend this Barn Cabin to anybody and everybody, i've already booked it for some people who work for me as a thank you, and i'm currently looking at booking a family trip there again in 2014. Great atmosphere and phenomenal place to rejuvenate and get in touch with nature and quiet!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The weekend we spend at the Barn on Lake Superior for my husbands 40th Birthday is one we will remember for ever. We arrived with 16 friends and had plenty of space, beds, and baths for all - COMFORTABLY. My breath was taken away as we came down the driveway. We were met at the door by very friendly and helpful caretaker who showed us the lay of the land. The bedrooms were VERY comfortable, the bathrooms are beautiful and every touch you can tell has been well thought out. My only regret is that i didn't have a whole day just to explore and look at all of the incredible craftsmanship in more detail. I have BARN envy! Our group made the most of everything the barn had to offer ie. trails.. hot tub, sauna, ping pong, shuffle puck, visits to the amazing Tee-Pee, hikes down to the lake. Lots of toasts, great food that was easily prepared in a beautiful kitchen stocked with everything you need. We have already put aside a weekend to come back next year for another round of 40ths, and when those are over we will have to think of anther excuse! Thanks again for a wonderful weekend!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

For the past 8 years, our two families have spent a long weekend in the Lake Superior area and this year we left the Minnesota side for the Wisconsin side and stayed at The Barn. We were fortunate to have great weather and some fresh snow making it hard to decide whether to be outside or inside. The inside is very spacious with plenty of room for our families which was 15 in number. The temperature was always comfortable no matter where you were inside. Everyone really enjoyed the weekend and here are our top 10 reasons why if you're considering a stay: 1. Hiking and/or snowshoe trails. We hiked the trails and also along the river that runs through the property. With fresh snow I would recommend snowshoeing the river area. 2. Sauna and hot tub. I really enjoyed the sauna. It doesn't take long to get it fired up and with some water thrown on the rocks it gets nice and hot. 3. Ping pong and shuffleboard. Our families had a bracket competition but whether you're playing for fun or having a little competition, the game room is terrific. 4. Wood fires. After starting the coffee pot, this was the next step every morning. The main room has a nice fireplace and there is an abundant supply of dry cut wood for fires. 5. Close to ski resort. 40 minute drive to Spirit Mountain in Duluth. 6. Secluded location. You can crank up your Bose system (which we brought with us) or enjoy the total quiet. View over Lake Superior is awesome. 7. Well furnished. The Wolfe's have really furnished the Barn well. Washer and dryer come in handy. Everything you need for cooking is in the kitchen and there are two refrigerators available. Even a drawer with spices if you forgot to pack something. 8. TV with Apple TV. There are many movies to choose from if you want to kick back on the large sofa and relax. 9. Gas grill on the deck. We like grilling in the winter and took advantage of the gas grill for burgers and brats one day. 10. Outdoor campfires. You can have a fire in the teepee or out by the hot tub over looking the lake. Thanks again Nicole for sharing your home. We're coming back again next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

For the past 5 years, a group of around 15 friends get together for a weekend in the winter. We've stayed at a couple different properties, and this was our favorite! With enough people, it's definitely worth the cost. The property is great. It's easy to get to, it's secluded, and the lake is incredible to see in the winter. The outdoor hot tub and sauna worked great. You could fit around 4 people in them at a time. The tub does take a while to warm up since it's wood-fired, but we were able to start a fire when we arrived and used it the first night. There's lots of trails to wander around on or do some snow-shoeing too. The best part is the Barn. It's big and wide open, so there is plenty of room for everyone to hang out together. We sat around the fireplace in the great room and played games at the large table. We enjoyed the game room in the basement with the ping-pong and shuffleboard tables. With the in-floor heat, it is quite comfortable down there. The barn-wood walls, flooring, and fixtures make for a truly unique home. Everything was as described in the listing and the place was clean and in perfect condition. The only things I could think of adding would be a better sound system -- especially in the basement where all there is is a TV with AppleTV. We brought a portable iPod speaker system that worked well though. Everyone I was with had a great time and hopes to come back next year! Thanks for sharing your home with us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

Large family joined at Lake Superior Barn for our annual Ski Vacation. The "Barn" provided just the right location for fellowship AND proximity to Duluth's Spirit Mountain, only 35 minutes from the front door of the "Barn" to ski chalet. Even in the dead of winter, the kids enjoyed playing outside in the snow, teepee and on the trails. The owners (Tom and Nicole) and property manager (Scott) were cordial and easy to work with on property details. We would rent again in a heart beat!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The barn and the property are a spectacular site. We never tired of looking at all of the custom detail in the barn. The lighting selection is one of my favorites. We enjoyed walking several of the trails and taking in the local scenery. The variety of wildlife was an added surprise. Lake Superior was spectacular as always. The evening lights from the north shore area and the winter morning conditions were events in the themselves that were watched by several in our group for hours. Our stay is definitely a memory that all who were involved will talk about for years to come. We definitely will be back for another stay at the barn!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Nicole, Our stay at the Barn was absolutely Amazing! One of the boys said the pictures of the barn on the internet didn't do it justice. It was unbelievably unique and very impressive! We had everything we needed and more. We really lucked out with the weather. Beautiful fall days for hiking and playing and then a beautiful snowfall Thanksgiving night. The hot tub and sauna were a hit! Used everyday and night and most of them did the roll in the snow and then back into the sauna or tub. The little ones thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub! A good time was had by all. They all agreed we should do it again. Thank you for everything. It was a great place to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. LoisDid you find this review helpful? My family had the opportunity to stay at THE BARN for an extended weekend and left with a lifetime of memories. Located on an incredible property, the barn exceeded every expectation we had, and was better then we could of imagined. Custom built, the attention-to-detail and craftsmanship of the property make it a unique experience for anyone who visits. The barn itself was spacious, clean, and well kept. From the welcoming entryway with individual cubbies for coats, shoes, and boots to the unique flooring, walls, and decorations that give each bedroom its character, this property is a hidden jewel in northern Wisconsin. Each bedroom is spacious with comfortable beds, linens, and plenty of closet space. The loft bedrooms have four twin beds and a full size bed perfect for families and children. The master bedroom and three additional guest rooms have queen beds with wonderful views of Lake Superior and the surrounding woods. Each bathroom has a unique feel, one includes a clawfoot tub, and two have amazing showers built with detail in every nook. The kitchen is well stocked with all of the utensils you will need, and the great room, game room, 3-season porch, and deck are incredible additions that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere of their own. The property also includes a custom wood burning sauna and hot tub, both of which are situated outdoors and are ripe for creating unforgettable nights sitting underneth the stars. The inclusion of an outdoor shower, teepee, fire rings, and exploratory pathways through the surrounding woods make the experience an adventure at every turn and one that should not be missed. My family's experience at the barn included two other families (6 adults total and 8 children), and the barn provided plenty of space for all of us. We enjoyed an AMAZING weekend that left all of us with memories that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend and encourage this property to all interested.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is our second time staying at the superior barn. It is a one of kind place. We would highly recommend it to anyone. We had a total of 12 adults on this stay and 8 of them were first time vistors. They all want to come back. The barn is very spacious and very clean. You will not find a more private place to stay with less than 30 minute drive to Duluth. You have a great view of Duluth, Two Harbors and the ships coming and going. The beach is a great place to look for rocks and drift wood. Plenty of trails to hike around and look for wildlife. There are plenty of things to do with a short drive or just relax at the barn. We wished we would have stayed one more day and just stayed at the barn on the last day and relaxed. The beds were very comfortable as everybody slept excellent. Fireplace is great and they stock plenty of wood for you. We had is going when ever we were there. Looking forward to our next visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
