Spring is here and the lake is quiet. Enjoy a long, relaxing weekend in a very private location.Park your car and bike or hike in the woods right out the back yard.Walk or bike to the General Store/Deli and Old Tahoe Cafe in Homewood or along the bike path to the beach and Tahoma amenities.
Summer rentals are weekly Saturday to Saturday with long weekends available early and late. Rates include the famous Chamberlands Club with private beach, pool and tennis courts! Guests to the west shore are often confused about the summer amenities here: The amenities are actually two memberships, one to the Chamberlands Beach and Mountain Club which maintains the two private beaches with roped swim areas, lifeguards, paddle boats and summer day and evening family activities. The second is the Chamberlands Recreation Club which includes and maintains entrance to the private Heated Pool with lifeguards, lounges and private restrooms. The private pool, beaches are integrated into a public pier, bar and restaurant right on the lake. The origin of these clubs can be confusing. Upon developing the Chamberlands condominiums about 30 years years ago, the adjacent homes in Chambersland I and II were offered a chance to purchase a membership in one or both clubs. The opportunity for the pool/tennis club was once in a lifetime and is linked to the specific home's title. At this time, most homes in Chamberlands maintain a membership in the Beach and Mountain Club, while only a portion of homes have access to the pool and tennis facilities with a hefty yearly fee. We have both. This part of the lake also has a public portion of beach available to other homes in the area (ex:Tahoma, McKinney, Homewood) which is on the southern edge of this sandy beach area of Lake Tahoe.
Summer events include: Chamberlands Beach, Pool and Tennis Private Club at no extra charge:
Dates of operation: June 15 through Labor Day; 10:30-5:30 (Lifeguard staffing)
Shuttle Bus Service: approximately June 30-August 19 11:00-6:30pm and passes right in front of Bear Haven. Grandma, grandpa and the youngs ones can come and go while the older kids hang out at the beach all day!
Free Family Movie Nights Wednesdays at the Beach: mid July to mid August: Bring chairs, blankets, cooler, flashlight and container for trash.
SPRING/FALL: Come escape the city and enjoy the wildlife of Spring season!
Hike or ride bikes right from Bear Haven. Very quiet and peaceful.
Relax in the private hot tub or by one of the warm fireplaces!
WINTER: Enjoy a 3-day weekend, or a discount for mid week stays! Our guests love to ski at Homewood Mountain Resort (a short walk or ski down Lagoon Road); then ski into the backyard for lunch! Or meet Grandma and Grandpa (an easy walk away) at Homewood's South Lodge for a mid-day family gathering!(seasonal, call).
Of course at the end of the day (you can again ski home through the trees, (a gentle slope off of Homeward Bound Ski run) and soak in the private hot tub. Homewood Mountain Resort has lots of promotions for lift tickets, check their website skihomewood . Also discounted tickets are available at Costco.
SUMMER: Private facilities of the Chamberland's beach, pool and tennis are all on the shore of Lake Tahoe, about a mile from the peace and quiet of Bear Haven, an easy bike ride, walk or choose the Chamberlands shuttle bus(mid summer). After a day at the beach, return to the quiet forest setting on the large outdoor decks of your home away from home. Then plan a night ofBBQ, ping-pong or pool tournaments or just a family movie in the large Game Room.

BEAR HAVEN is the perfect home to gather family and friends for your year-round fun and wildlife viewing. Play ping-pong or pool in the large Game Room (complete with plumbed bar and entertainment area) and soak in your own professionally serviced hot tub without leaving the house! A fantastic location in the Chamberlands area of Homewood means we have skiing at the end of the road at Homewood Mountain Resort in Winter, a private beach/pool/tennis on the Lake in Summer including the Baby Beach, Main Beach with floats, free paddle boats and professional lifeguards! Great hiking, biking in Spring, Summer and Fall. An easy walk to Obexer's market and marina or Old Tahoe Cafe. Summer activites at Homewood Mountain Resort usually include concerts, music, art and craft shows as well as The Farmers Market.
Next to open space! Bear Haven is located on a quiet, relatively flat street one block from the Lake a mile from the beach club and close to all the activities you would need for your vacation. Easy bike ride to the beach, Tahoma, Sugar Pine State Park, Homewood or Sunnyside. Huge uncrowded forest, creeks, Quail Lake and trails directly behind our three level rustic A-frame hideaway(complete with a trail map)! These trails were the site of the Olympic Trails Winter Nordic Recreation Site for the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics!
We'll send you a map to hike, snowshoe, mountain bike or cross country ski from the cabin. You can even ski home into the backyard in Winter from Homewood Mountain Resort! Come and park your car and enjoy all that this neighborhood has to offer. There is even a peak of Lake Tahoe and the shore beyond!
This home is well-known for all of the fun features - especially a large GAME ROOM with pool table, ping pong table, TV/VCR/DVD, video games, CD player, fireplace, wet bar and lots of extras. If you need to work on vacation, we have complimentary wireless internet! Enjoy the private hot tub on one of the several decks after your active day and observe the abundant wildlife that the Westshore is famous for. There is a good reason that we call it 'Bear Haven'! The house backs to Open Space with a great network of trails to hike or mountain bike. Close proximity to the Westshore Bike Path allows you to explore north to Tahoe City (and beyond) or south to Sugar Pine State Park.
In Winter, Homewood Mountain Resort is the most wonderful place to ski, especially for families, with incredible lake views and is so spacious, even weekends are uncrowded! Groomed X-country trails and a sledding hill are a few miles south at Sugar Pine State Park.
Bear Haven is a member of both the famous Chamberlands Membership Only Beach Club as well as the Recreation Association with pool and tennis (June 19-Sept 6). Launch your own boat close by at Obexer's Homewood Marina, and tie up at Chamberlands for the day! Complimentary paddle boats are great fun for the family at the Chamberlands private beach.
This three level home has four bedrooms: the Bear room(1st level-King;full bath), Cub room(2nd level-queen + twin;bath w/shower + open kitchen/living room), Deer room(queen + twin)and Wolf room(queen + full)(both on 3rd level w/1/2 bath);6TV's, 6VCR's with VHS library, 3 DVD players, playstation, nintendo, games, books, toys, Summer sand toys, puzzles, winter sleds. Linens and many extras included. Although we have made an effort to make Bear Haven child friendly, adult supervision is necessary.

We rented this awesome house for Labor Day weekend, 2012 with some friends and had the best time!! Perfect location with the lake a block away. We walked our dog every morning down to the lake so she could swim. Beautiful quiet street with great hiking right in the backyard. We even saw a bear way up on the hill!!! We had a lot of teenagers with us and they were very entertained with the pool table and ping pong table in the large game room. The hot tub was also a big hit!! The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable. We really enjoyed having access to Chambers Landing just half a mile down the road! This was a great vacation and we will be coming back to "Bear Haven". Thank you Debbie!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

We are from Denmark and have really enjoyed our stay. This is the 2nd time I have been to "Bear Haven" and I am really "Bearolich". Went to Truckee and bought a big bear! Hello Debbie Just wanted to write a belated thank you. We enjoyed your place in Tahoe with my parents and brother. The kids had a blast at Chambers and the ping pong reached a whole new competitive level. Everyone spent hours on the front porch doing a 1500 piece puzzle and never thought it would be such a hit. It was homey and perfect for our family and you guys did such a wonderful job making it that way. We saw the map to Quail Lake and went up there 3 times. Even though it was a busy 4th of July weekend, we didn't see anyone on our hikes and were able to feel removed from it all. The kids loved picking from your collection of movies every night. Hi DEbbie Thanks for the use of your cabin. We got married at the West Shore Cafe. It snowed over 2 ft that day and the Homewood Resort shuttle was nice enough to pick us up and all our friends. About the owner: A retired UCLA trained dentist now living in Jackson Hole Wyoming. Spent many years in the Bay Area and this was our family cabin when my sons were growing up. We now have wonderful liasons living and working in Lake Tahoe that help us maintain our cabin for our many guests.
Why the Owner Chose Homewood:
Lake Tahoe can be SO busy any time of year, but the West Shore is the prettiest and quietest. We enjoyed parking the car during visits and not using it again until it was time to go back home.
The open space behind the house and quiet street were a stark contrast to our home in Ross and the hiking is awesome. This part of Homewood/Chamberlands has neighborhood only two roads above West Lake Boulevard, which allows easy access by bike, and creates a quiet neighborhood with few cars so the boys could play in front or back.
The lake is quite close by and we would have a much better view of it if there weren't so many beautiful conifers growing all around us! Truly feels like the woods!
The early nineties were drought years and Tahoe had very little snow. Being on the 'shady' side of the lake, the little snow that there was would last much longer than anywhere else...making for snow play all winter!
Lake Tahoe's shoreline is primarily private, so we wanted a home that also had access to a beach. Chamberlands is one of the nicest clubs in Tahoe with sandy beaches and all its facilities together at the lake. What a wonderful setting!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
More wonderful family memories at a fun cabin in the woods with wildlife and recreation all around us. The game room was always the boys domain and the separate kitchen/living area always seemed to be the adults' hangout. The three levels gives everyone a bit of space and privacy when desired. The hot tub on the back deck is in a wonderful forest setting, and although we have neighbors to the north and south, the situation of our home slightly to the west gave us total privacy there.
