Me, my husband, and our two daughters (ages 3 and 6) just got back from our stay in this lovely home. It's cozy (about 800 square feet) but divided up well - we never felt on top of each other. We had plenty of room for the four of us and it could have slept two more in the Murphy bed. All the furniture and appliances are updated and well-appointed. We had bicycles, boogie boards, sand toys, and beach towels. Having a washer and dryer in the home was so convenient. The house looks just like the photos - warm, inviting, and very comfortable. It instantly became our "home". The deck, however, is even nicer than the photos show. The owners added new deck furniture and umbrellas which makes it even more comfortable and lovely. We spent a majority of our time lounging on the deck, listening to the ocean, watching the people walk by. It was a dream to wake up and sit with my coffee on the deck, smelling the ocean air. It was two houses from the ocean side and a two minute walk to the bay. The oceanside was busy and bustling with energy. The calm bayside was quieter and perfect for my two little girls. It was less crowded, had no waves, and there were always some other kids to play with. We spent time at the beach and watched the Sea World fireworks display every night over the bay. It was a 10 walk to Belmont Park which has a carnival rides and a restaurant. My kids had a blast! This place is fantastic! We stayed at another rental last year and it didn't compare to the light, bright, cozy welcome of this home. Our vacation was so lovely and relaxing in large part because of this home. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. For the price, you can't find better.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is such a cozy beach house just steps to the beach! The outside space is amazing we spent most of our week outside enjoying the sound of the waves and lounging on the comfy outdoor sofa. My 17 month old loved the area to wash your feet with the hose as it was two steps down we affectionitly called it "the pit". Everything you need is in the home with 2 bathrooms and room to sleep six very comfortably! It was such a money saver to have the beach cruisers and boogie boards at the house there were enough for everyone! This home is just that a home not a rental we loved it and thank you Susan for making it so easy to have such a great vacation!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

We want to thank Susan for everything! We had such an awesome family vacation!! The beach was so close to the beach for us and the kids just loved it! The deck is where we hung out for the most part...it was perfect! The use of the bikes was great. We took rides in the morning and the evening...beautiful sunsets!! The kids really enjoyed the use of the boogie boards. They had so much fun. They got to spend some time with their cousins for a few days, which was great! The space in the house was perfect for us. We had 2 adults and 3 teenagers. Very comfortable beds and it was nice having the two showers. We did leave some beach toys for future guests to use. And it was great to have the hose to rinse off with before we went in the house. The use of the grill was great. We only ate out twice. Have to try the awesome Mexican Restaurant, Fat Fish just north on left side of Mission Blvd. Yummy!! We cooked breakfast every day...which was great, so we had more fun time! We we will absolutely be back! And my brother and sister in law said they may even rent it next summer....they loved it too! It is so perfect and we just loved how close it was to the beach. This was our first time to California....and it was a memorable one! Thanks again Susan...your place is awesome!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

You will not regret your decision to stay here for your vacation in San Diego. This property is a few steps off the Mission Beach boardwalk and beach so the location could not be better. It is an easy walk or bike ride to stores, restaurants etc. The boardwalk is fun, active, and bustling, but there is no noise problem in the house at all, so there is no need to be concerned about the noise level at night. The house itself is clean, lovely and fully-equipped to meet all your needs. The homeowners are wonderful (thanks Susan!).Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Just pack your clothes and toiletries and you are ready to go. This little beach house has been immaculately maintained and updated with care and style. Details have been carefully seen to including beach cruisers, boogie boards, and the charcoal for the BBQ. Towels are plush, beds are comfy and the view and space on the deck will keep you outside for hours on end. Location is amazing and price is very fair for everything you get in the house and the proximity to area attractions and beach. We spent a week there with our 4 children, ranging in age from 9-16, and all six of us had a wonderful time. There was plenty to keep all of us busy, or not busy at all, and not once did I hear the words "I'm bored" all week long. We look forward to making it back year after year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

This was our first time staying at Mission Beach. The cottage was adorable. We really enjoyed having our breakfasts and dinners as well as the fireworks (Sea World has fireworks every night at 10pm) on the deck. The deck has a comfy couch that faces the ocean, I enjoyed sitting there in the morning with my coffee and hearing the waves. We were able to walk to the beach (steps from the sand). After a long day at the beach, we came home to the comfortable beds so we got a good nights sleep every night. The rental has 4 bikes which allowed us to ride everywhere. We had breakfast at Mission Cafe (very delish but busy- expect to wait on the weekends) and went to Belmont Park (look online for 1/2 off discounts on Thursdays- small park with 6 rides I would not pay full price for this). The only thing I wish the cottage had was more space for us to put our clothes. We came with a weeks worth of clothes which is alot with the cool nights and warm days. Overall it was a great vacation and we WILL be back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: Dave and I are locals here in San Diego. We live about 25 minutes north in Carmel Valley which is right next to Del Mar. We own a Window and Door dealership called Builders Window Supply. This beach house is a fun new hobby/investment for us and it has proven to be very fun and rewarding. It brings us down to South Mission Beach a lot in the summer and we stay and play volleyball or bike or kayak. We have two grown kids in college. I grew up in San Diego and my husband moved here in college after he met me at his cousins house in South Mission Beach. Here we are 30 years later.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We bought a house in this location because it is one of our favorite places to be. The beach is wide with bright sand and wonderful sunsets. Our Uncle started his own vacation rental business here years ago and we are following his lead. We are San Diegan's and have had one of the best vacations ever a couple years ago with the whole extended family. We all stayed in our Uncles vacation rentals due to a lot of us being evacuated with the terrible fires in the fall of 2007. The beach was the only safe place to be and unexpectedly we had one of the best reunions ever. No one could work or go anywhere. We barbequed and played volleyball all day. We love it here. The beach has such a carefree spirit which takes you away from the daily duties of work, chores, and paperwork, not to mention the heat for all the hot weather folks escaping the 100 degree weather.
