In ski jargon, 'Black Diamonds' are the toughest ski runs for experts only-- but you won't need to be an expert to enjoy this incredibly gorgeous Alpine lodge! At 10,500 feet, it is nestled in the heart of South Park. Western Frontier meets elegance in this luxury home. You'll have everything you want without the crowded tourist feeling and high prices you will find only 15-20 minutes away in Breckenridge and Summit County. Completely avoid the I-70 weekend & holiday traffic jams by taking US Highway 285 practically right to the house-- it is 1 1/2 hours from either Denver or Colorado Springs. Convenient to major highways in snowy weather, it's beautifully tucked into pine and aspen forests with huge views. No tired, dark 'cabin' with shabby furniture and small beds here, but 5800 sq ft of custom built luxury overlooking the amazing Continental Divide - huge views of Fourteeners right out your windows or from the private hot tub! Gourmet entertainment kitchen (with Bose sound system for your Ipod or IPhone), 4 large bedrooms (3 kings) and 3 large baths will easily accommodate 10. The luxury master suite is an eye-popper-- see all the features below for it, there is a second king suite upstairs. (We have provided several air mattresses as well). The vaulted Great Room with large log scissor-trusses and a stone-surround wood-burning stove create a fabulous mountain lodge experience. Plenty of wood available! The exercise room upstairs has five large view windows and a Bose CD/Ipod sound system, spinning bike and elliptical trainer. Downstairs you'll find 2 more spacious bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with 2 sets of bunks, and another large bath as well. The downstairs Great Room is a great entertainment area to give you (and the kids!) room to spread out. This 5 acre property has the remnants of a gold mine from the last century, the water there even has two schools of Rainbow Trout (just for looking--no fishing please--they are just getting established! There are several stocked fishing locations within 5 minutes' drive.) We've also just cleared a ski/sledding run on the hillside behind the house! Sleds & helmets and snow shoes provided. Hands down one of the nicest rentals in Southpark. You will find this home to be an elegant resort with a unique mountain touch-- you'll come back again and again!

We stayed here along with another family. We were two big families and there was plenty of room for all of us. The kids loved the sledding hill and the many sleds provided. This home is perfectly set up for large families with children. We couldn't have picked a better home! It was even more beautiful in person!! Neither the adults or children wanted to leave. We drove up from Texas and were hoping there would still be snow on the ground. To our surprise there was plenty of snow on the ground and the kids were so excited! Such a gorgeous home with everything you could possibly need. You cannot go wrong staying here!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We appreciate your taking care of our home, and hope that you'll come back to the BDAL:)

We had a wonderful stay at this truly beautiful home. It was close enough to Breckenridge for us to spend the day skiing but allowed us to get away from the crowds in the evening. My husband and I and our 4 boys spent hours of quality family time in the game room, playing foosball, pool, and pinball. The house was tucked away far enough from the road so that it was quiet and relaxing. We would definitely recommend this house to family and friends and hope to go back ourselves.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you, thank you, thank you for being so gentle on our house. We greatly appreciate it when guests take care of our home. Please come back again.

I rented out BDAL for my bachelorette party, which really ended up being an opportunity for friends to ski, enjoy beers and relax in the hot tub and sauna! BDAL has literally everything you could need on a vacation, and it's much comfier than the ski condos I've rented in places like Keystone and Breck. My out of town friends were so grateful for the vistas and I was just amazed at what a beautiful home I found. We also had a toddler in our party and there were all the things we needed for the baby which helped A TON with prep and packing. Teresa was really friendly and I thought the instructions she and the family provided helped make the weekend even more relaxing ... we didn't have to figure anything out. It's also great to be able to get to the mountains on 285 and avoid 70!! Wonderful experience, I don't see how you could be disappointed.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We always appreciate glowing reviews - so glad you all enjoyed yourselves. Thank you for being so careful with our home.

Christmas 2012 will forever be a precious and wonderful reflection because I was with family and because of our fantastic surroundings found in this amazing mountain home. Although it gives the romantic impression of rustic on the surface, one is spoiled with luxury on the inside. Great beds, comfortable couches, fancy t.v.s, modern appliances, big showers, cozy fireplaces, and entertainments such as a billiards table, sauna, jacuzi, video games, and board games give visiters plenty of things to do together when not venturing out into the wilderness or onto the ski slopes. To top it off, the hosts were careful to check in to make sure everything was as was advertised and that we were happy and supplied with what was needed to make the trip a success. We have no criticisms or concerns, only a deep appreciation that we were able to enjoy such a place over the holiday.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: So glad that we could make your Christmas special.

The description of the property was very accurate in the VRBO listing. The photos accurately reflected the rental's appearance and amenities. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was extremely helpful. There were little guides left everywhere to help you know how to operate things in the home. One night out electricity went out due to a nearby auto accident and Theresa was extremely helpful in keeping us posted on the status of the electricity being restored. She was also very helpful in explaining what we could do about feeling a little down due to the altitude. Very nice lady! I would recommend this property to anyone who asked. There are two towns within 5 miles of the home that are just adorable. Breckenridge is about 15 miles away and we enjoyed skiing and shopping there. The home had a lot of stuff for our family. The sledding hill and sleds at the house were a BLAST! We had an awesome time and would love to visit again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are very glad that you enjoyed the BDAL, thank you for the kind remarks.

I cant imagine a better place to stay in Colorado. The house is a beautiful fully custom home with everything you could possibly need and more! Nestled in the trees, this home offers a secluded feel with just a short drive to Alma or Breckenridge. Whether it was drinking coffee next to the fire looking out at the mountains, or relaxing in the hot tub in 15 degree wheather, i was constantly in awe of the amenities this house offered. With out a doubt this home made this vacation one of the best I have ever had. I am looking forward to coming back in the near future!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: You are so welcome. Come back when the snow is flying!

What a beautiful home! My husband and I were celebrating our 1st anniversary and the purchase of our new jeep. We spent most of our days on jeep trails and came back to a comfortable home. The description and pictures did not do the home justice it was much more warm and inviting not to mention absolutely beautiful. We explored the property and its glory holes, relaxed most nights in the outdoor jacuzzi after a long day on trails, the gourmet kitchen was lovely and fully equipped with anything one could possibly need, we stoked up the fireplace several nights in the great room and played pool in the recreation room. The fire place in the master bedroom added a romantic ambiance and the master bath with the sauna was very relaxing. The property was immaculate! Teresa was quick to respond to our short notice. We only gave her 1 week notice and she was kind enough to accommodate our needs. We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks Teresa! Next time we will bring the family now that we know this place has plenty of space for our 5 children. Thanks again......Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are happy to hear that you loved the BDAL. Thank you for letting us share in your special celebration. By all means bring the kids next time.

Black Diamond Lodge was breathtaking!! Our family of nine spent a long weekend as Teresa & Buck's guests--but we felt like family. We struggle to find adequate words to express just how spectacular this lodge is. We had 7 adults and 2 grandchilren under the age of four and we all had so much room to spread out. Every room held a sense of love from the owners. I did much research of CO homes on vrbo--the photos of BDL kept bringing me back to this serene place. The photos and description are spot on--our family lacked for nothing whether it was in the gourmet kitchen(and the wall to ceiling chef's pantry-wow),the most comfy bedrooms,or the beautiful den. Teresa & Buck thought of every need a guest could have. We enjoyed BDL for its peace and quiet atmosphere-the evening soaks in the hot tub under the stars was the perfect end to each day. We utilized the game room: pool table, pinball & arcades, fooshball, large assortment of dvd's and board games--great time had by All!! This was our first vrbo experience and Teresa was wonderful to work with. She gave directions to BDL,shopping, great restaurants, and grocery stores. We enjoyed all of our meals at BDL. Everyone wanted a part in this beautiful kitchen as well as grilling outside on the patio(so can't give opinions on local restaurants) Teresa & Buck, you have our family's sincere gratitude for serving our great country as a military family from Buck to your son and daughter's service. Also we thank you for generously giving of your wonderful home in this way. Your BDL is amazing and we felt welcomed in every way. Even with BDL's emense sq ft you have crafted it to be warm, inviting, and "HOME" and we are so thankful to have stayed with you. Our grandbabes want to say 'Tanks for the good cookies':) Greeted with chocolate chip cookies! Teresa may your double knee recovery continue speedily and see you back to full strength soon(since you are already biking in these beautiful mountains at BDL) i'd say you are doing great! May your family be richly blessed by God for your giving heart to others!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: WOW, thank you so much. It was a pleasure connecting with you. We hope you'll come back to the BDAL again for some Colorado R & R.

3 Generations of the Miller and Prendki families once again enjoyed the beautiful Lansford home. There is a lot to do in the area but our favorite thing is hiking around the home and taking nature walks down to the pond! Of course s'mores were enjoyed in the gorgeous den! The kitchen is fully equipped and so much fun use! We spent a day at Peak 8 and a morning horse back riding with American Safari. Our youngest was 7 and she controlled her own horse! We love the Brown Burro and the burritos at the bowling alley are the best. The posole and barbecue are delicious at Masons right there in Fairplay. We are planning another family gathering next summer in the same spot! Thank again Buck and Teresa for sharing your lovely home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Meeting your lovely family was a delight. We look forward to seeing you again at the BDAL!

About the owner: We're a USAFA military family. After traveling the world, we chose to settle down in the high mountains of Colorado. We split our time between the Front Range and our mountain home to relax and play.
Why the Owner Chose Alma:
This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We enjoy the convenience of all the different kinds of mountain fun in our own front yard. While we are in the mountains, it only takes 2 mins to be on the hwy to Summit county.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
After a great day of skiing, we don't have to drive the I 70 bumper-to-bumper traffic for hours to get home. We are in the middle of Fourteeners, gold medal fishing, biking, and hiking--God's country. Use the spotting scope in the great room to look for bears and elk on the divide!
