The Lewis Farmhouse is a recently-renovated, year-round home surrounded by 400 acres of conservation land. On Lewis Farm, our priority is living in compatibility with nature and protecting the rare plant and animal species that share our habitat. The house is simple but comfortable, suitable for quiet family vacations. It is set amidst rolling meadows and stone walls, with ocean views to the west, south and east. One can enjoy both spectacular sunrises and sunsets from the farmhouse. People who choose to vacation here thrive on peace and quiet, spectacular views, the large rolling lawn for family play, and the farm heritage.

The home's first floor has a mudroom, a well-equipped modern full kitchen, a living/dining room, bedroom and full bath. There is a covered porch to the east and an open deck to the south. The second floor has three bedrooms and a full bath. A laundry with both washer and dryer is in the basement; a clothes line is outside. Linens and towels can be provided for a modest charge.

The house has a telephone with local service, HD satellite TV, DSL wireless service, and stereo radio. Guests are allowed to bring one dog or one cat with them. A dog must be accompanied by an adult owner when it is outdoors.

Lewis Farm was actively farmed by the Lewis family from 1817 to 1964. Since that time, the Lewis family has been at the forefront of the island’s open space movement. Most of the land is now in conservation, and we strive to maintain the feel and low environmental impact of Block Island's farming heritage. The farm’s core is a cluster of seven dwelling units, most of them former farming structures; five are occupied by family. The Nature Conservancy and RI Audubon allow an islander to graze cattle on conserved land to the west and south.

My husband and I have been coming to Lewis Farm since 1979 and would not consider staying anywhere else on the Island. The farmhouse, which is surrounded by conservancy land, has magnificent views and offers wonderful opportunities for hiking, including walks through the fields to the cliffs overlooking the southwest coast. The location of the farm is convenient to everything on the Island, yet offers privacy and some separation from the bustle of town. The house has lots of charm, is clean, and has a wonderfully-equipped kitchen. Block Island offers plenty of things to do for people who love to walk, bike, sail, swim, kayak, relax, and enjoy a place that's not overrun by fast food restaurants. In all, it's a place of beauty for people of all ages, abilities, and tastes.

Stayed at Lewis Farm with 5 friends in early October, 2010. My first trip to Block Island. Views from the house were incredible and include ocean, pasture, and a few other houses and barns associated with the Lewis family. Very beautiful, restful, and serene. Porches on the front and side provided additional space to relax, rest, and share meals and conversation. The house was incredibly clean--even the basement laundry room looked like it had been scrubbed. Kitchen was very well equipped, with a lovely ocean view from the kitchen window. Keith and Kay Lewis were warm, friendly, and willing to share their extensive knowledge of local history and conservation efforts on Block Island. I slept like a baby, hiked many of the trails, enjoyed cooking at the house with my friends as well as eating at 3 of the local restaurants. Would be delighted to stay there again.

We have taken four vacations on Block Island and rented a house three times. This house was by far the best. The owners are friendly and helpful and they clearly love the house and the surrounding property. We went late in the season and the place was completely clean and well-maintained. All appliances worked. You will not miss TV. I almost hesitate to mention that they allow pets (one at a time), and I urge any pet-owning renters to take precautions to prevent them from damaging furniture, etc, so that they are able to continue that policy. The photos of the house are okay, but they can't do justice to the beautiful conserved landscape surrounding it, and the ocean views beyond that. Wonderful place. I wish I were still there!

We stayed at lewis farm september 2010 for approx. 5 nights. Keith and Kay are wonderful hosts. The house is spacious, clean and comes with breathtaking views. The location of the farm also provides a lot of privacy. Kitchen was great with all appliances and things you would need to cook some great dinners. There was also a grill that we used. The front of the house was so spacious. Also great side porch for lounging. We would definitely return to visit. Block island is lovely. We absolutely love the island and you cant miss getting lunch at Three Sisters.
