My husband and I wanted to get away with our two dogs after a week long high school reunion. The listing was just as described-walking distance to spring lake with a common area to sit and eat breakfast and watch the lake. If you make friend with the neighbors they'll take you for a pontoon ride and they love dogs. The cottage was more charming than described, Every built- in and the decor is just wonderful, a meeting of modern and shabby chic. Great bike and hike areas, close to beaches, downside-there is no more trolley service near then, no place within walking distance for coffee, the dvd player was not working and it was a little dirty when we got there, but we found out from the neighbors there had been quite the party there and they were happy to see us. I loved Old Dogs for lunch or dinner or a brew. There always Fricano's we never miss it, and the thrift shop nearby I love so well. I would recommend this to family and friends. We'll come again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family rented this charming cottage last Summer and had a wonderful time. The cottage is cute and well stocked with a nice backyard. It's close to the bike path which is very convenient. It is also on the path of the transportation system that heads into Grand Haven for a minimal fee which is very nice. We loved the area. Our favorite restaurant was Old Dogs which is just a bike ride away. Thanks so much!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Our family recently rented the cottage for 6 weeks, primarily to see our son play baseball at Hope College (easy 20 minute drive away). There is lots to do in this area of Michigan. I enjoyed fishing, visiting historic areas of Muskegon and The Holland Tulip Festival. The cottage is really wonderful, big front room with lots of afternoon light, easily sleeps 6 and plenty of room. The kitchen, bath, porch have everything you could possible need, plus a nice fenced yard. The house sits pretty much in the middle of several large marinas and the biking and walking trails. I definitely give this "two thumbs up". There are lots of interesting beaches and restaurants close by. Highly recommend.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: For our first anniversary, we planned to go to California's wine country to celebrate. At the last minute, we decided to save some money and visit Michigan instead. We found a cottage online and were having such a wonderful time on our trip, that we called a local Coldwell Banker Realtor and asked to see some homes. Before we left, we had purchased this cottage and have loved it ever since! OK...so, it wasn't cheaper than a California trip, but has made many more memories!!!
Why the Owner Chose Spring Lake:
We loved Spring Lake...it was a little cheaper than Grand Haven, but so close to everything we wanted to do on our vacations. We live in Chicago now in a condo, so on our trips to MI we wanted to have a yard, a hammock and our own house! We are able to ride our bikes without the Chicago city traffic, go to Lake MI and enjoy a beautiful beach, little shops (our favorite is an independent book store in Grand Haven, plus several great antique shops!) and restaurants, and quiet days and nights in the backyard.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our favorite part is surely the ability to be in the back yard, get to the lake and Grand Haven, and nice nights on the town! In the back yard, we can nap, play games, read our books, my husband paints, and we never have to leave! However, when I want to get dressed up, there are plenty of places to go for dinner and drinks! We have frequently gone to Snug Harbor and enjoyed our meal from their deck while overlooking the lake!!
