The Lorelei Cabins 'Not Just a Place, But an Experience!'
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
The Lorelei Cabins are located in Dubuque, Iowa, near Swiss Valley Park. The newly built cabins, The Edelweiss and The Aster, and our newest property, The Homestead, are beautifully decorated. The cabins and the house are secluded in an area with over 400 acres of land, yet close enough to the city of Dubuque to enjoy the restaurants, shopping, and other amenities a city has to offer.
A perfect place for a family gathering, reunion, wedding or a romantic getaway. Each season has it's own unique offerings, with the vibrant leaves in the fall, the snow activities in the winter, and the relaxing tranquility of the ponds and Catfish Creek in the spring and summer.
The sunsets are abundant, and the lights of the city are a beautiful back drop to this area. Viewing the wild life and various scenes of nature are an experience everyone can appreciate. Walking in the woods, having a picnic or bird watching, is also recommended.

Had a great time at the cabin, we stayed at the Edelweiss. It was very nice and clean inside, loved the upstairs bathroom! The downstairs was just as nice! We had beautiful weather, and was able to enjoy the hot tub. We built a fire the 2nd night we stayed, it was nice and peaceful, until the geese decided to make an entrance, and made sure we knew they were there! My husband did some fishing and caught a few bass. It was a nice time and so glad we had great weather! Would love to go back in the future and possibly bring our girls, when they are a little bigger.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My sisters, mother and I rented the Edelweiss cabin for our annual fall "girls getaway" weekend. We had a wonderful time and all of us talked about getting back to the Lorelei cabins again, either this same group, with our spouses, or with friends. It was that perfect! Fall is perfect hot tub season, cool, crisp mornings and evenings, wonderfully warm, inviting water in the hot tub! We took a wonderful hike around some of the 5 miles of hiking trails and enjoyed the woods, prairie vista, and creek. The cabin is so tastefully decorated and comfortable, lots of attention to detail! We want to come back and use the paddle boat and canoe next time! Laura is a wonderful hostess, we enjoyed hearing the story of the family land and how they decided to build these wonderful cabins. Thank you and your family for sharing this wonderful spot with so many! We can't wait to come back!.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Just had a terrific weekend in the Aster Cabin, which is even better in person than it appears in the lovely photos of Lorelei Cabins. The Aster is well built, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and contains lots of extra touches that make you feel right at home. These include microwave popcorn, board games, a picnic basket, books and DVDs. It's located in a beautiful country setting amid rolling hills and ponds, and the hiking trails are well maintained and fun to explore. Yet it's only 10-15 minutes from downtown Dubuque, where we enjoyed great food at L. May restaurant and had a wonderful time on our first visit to the National Mississippi River Museum. The owner is very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. In fact, I'm already planning a summer visit so we can use the hot tub next time!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

As soon as we walked in, we smelled the soft pine. My husband instantly grabbed one of the cookies Jim and Laura left on the table for us and we looked around the cabin. The freezer had four ice cube trays already made! The refrigerator had a full pitcher of cold filtered water! We then cooked our favorite meal together, one that we first attemped when we first started dating. This time it turned out much better! The cabin was stocked with pots, pans and dishes so we didnt even need to bring our own haha. We played a game of Scrabble then built a campfire outside and watched the fire while sitting in the hottub. I have never done that before. My husband was dissapointed that there was not a TV in the bedroom but it gave us time to talk and reminisce before we fell asleep for the night. Everything was perfect. In the morning, we took the canoe out on their small lake. It was so amazing I didn't want to leave!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

I rented the Edelweiss cabin Valentine's weekend as a gift for my fiance's birthday. It was our first Valentine's Day together and I wanted something special. It was a brisk cold weekend, but the cabin was cozy and warm. I invited friends over for dinner & we had a grand time! We're already making plans for another weekend and going to bring more friends and rent both cabins. Laura & Jim are wonderful hosts and made sure we had everything we needed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I recently went to a business conference in Dubuque about environmental sustainability. Not only was it a nice place to unwind after the long day, but they use green products too! I saw some deer, built a campfire and slept great that night. Next time I'm going to try the Aster.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I just came back from 3 nights at the Lorelei Cabins. We stayed in the Astor. It was wonderful. THe cabin was exactly what was promised and more. Lora was so welcoming and helpful. She also visited long enough to make us feel at home and give us some dinner recommendations, then she left us to ourselves. We took walks, hiked, spent hours upon hours on the deck, went into Galena and Dubuque, slept beautifully and felt right at home. The cabin was so clean! THere were extra pillows, an extra comforter, loads of towels, a FULLY equiped kitchen with everything we could want to cook a full meal. But no one cooked. PURE RELAXATIONRecommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The cabin was filled with amenities that resembled a suite at an expensive hotel. We felt that the cabin lived up to the pictures on the web-site and then some. The setting is peaceful, with interesting walking trails. The River Museum in Dubuque kept the attention of kids and adults alike, and is only minutes away. Not only would we recommend this site to our relatives, but would consider a repeat stay. As there is only one other cabin on the site, our family used both. The area between the cabins is not well-lighted, so flashlights are useful. We did find a flashlight in our cabin, but it was not in a conspicuous place.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

I grew up in the area and came back for a week to visit family and friends. Swiss valley has always been a special place for me so to find a beautiful property like this was incredible. The attention to detail was amazing! It had everything that I needed, and Laura is a very gracious host! The last day I had family over to go fishing and hiking and even take the rowboat for a spin around the pond. I will be a return guest!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: Laura is originally from Dubuque, Iowa, and Jim is originally from Milwaukee. They have been married 28 years and have three grown 'children'. Both have human service back grounds. Jim is a motivational speaker/educator and owns Creative Education Services as well as Lorelei Cabins with Laura. The best part of owning the cabins has been the great people they get to meet all of the time.
Why the Owner Chose Dubuque:
This property has been family owned since 1940. The Edelweiss cabin has just recently been built as a way to share the beautiful land with the hiking trails, and communing with nature. My home is a hillside away from the cabin, so we are available to take care of any problems or to help your stay be complete. Please ask us about our other property available to rent as well.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We enjoy all of the amenities the cabin has. We hike, watch the sunsets, snowshoe, look at the stars while in our own hot tub. This property is very close to nature and very private, yet not isolated. We have ponds and the creek, and beautiful landscapes.
