Had a great time at the cabin, we stayed at the Edelweiss. It was very nice and clean inside, loved the upstairs bathroom! The downstairs was just as nice! We had beautiful weather, and was able to enjoy the hot tub. We built a fire the 2nd night we stayed, it was nice and peaceful, until the geese decided to make an entrance, and made sure we knew they were there! My husband did some fishing and caught a few bass. It was a nice time and so glad we had great weather! Would love to go back in the future and possibly bring our girls, when they are a little bigger.

My sisters, mother and I rented the Edelweiss cabin for our annual fall "girls getaway" weekend. We had a wonderful time and all of us talked about getting back to the Lorelei cabins again, either this same group, with our spouses, or with friends. It was that perfect! Fall is perfect hot tub season, cool, crisp mornings and evenings, wonderfully warm, inviting water in the hot tub! We took a wonderful hike around some of the 5 miles of hiking trails and enjoyed the woods, prairie vista, and creek. The cabin is so tastefully decorated and comfortable, lots of attention to detail! We want to come back and use the paddle boat and canoe next time! Laura is a wonderful hostess, we enjoyed hearing the story of the family land and how they decided to build these wonderful cabins. Thank you and your family for sharing this wonderful spot with so many! We can't wait to come back!.

Just had a terrific weekend in the Aster Cabin, which is even better in person than it appears in the lovely photos of Lorelei Cabins. The Aster is well built, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and contains lots of extra touches that make you feel right at home. These include microwave popcorn, board games, a picnic basket, books and DVDs. It's located in a beautiful country setting amid rolling hills and ponds, and the hiking trails are well maintained and fun to explore. Yet it's only 10-15 minutes from downtown Dubuque, where we enjoyed great food at L. May restaurant and had a wonderful time on our first visit to the National Mississippi River Museum. The owner is very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. In fact, I'm already planning a summer visit so we can use the hot tub next time!

As soon as we walked in, we smelled the soft pine. My husband instantly grabbed one of the cookies Jim and Laura left on the table for us and we looked around the cabin. The freezer had four ice cube trays already made! The refrigerator had a full pitcher of cold filtered water! We then cooked our favorite meal together, one that we first attemped when we first started dating. This time it turned out much better! The cabin was stocked with pots, pans and dishes so we didnt even need to bring our own haha. We played a game of Scrabble then built a campfire outside and watched the fire while sitting in the hottub. I have never done that before. My husband was dissapointed that there was not a TV in the bedroom but it gave us time to talk and reminisce before we fell asleep for the night. Everything was perfect. In the morning, we took the canoe out on their small lake. It was so amazing I didn't want to leave!

I rented the Edelweiss cabin Valentine's weekend as a gift for my fiance's birthday. It was our first Valentine's Day together and I wanted something special. It was a brisk cold weekend, but the cabin was cozy and warm. I invited friends over for dinner & we had a grand time! We're already making plans for another weekend and going to bring more friends and rent both cabins. Laura & Jim are wonderful hosts and made sure we had everything we needed.

I recently went to a business conference in Dubuque about environmental sustainability. Not only was it a nice place to unwind after the long day, but they use green products too! I saw some deer, built a campfire and slept great that night. Next time I'm going to try the Aster.

I just came back from 3 nights at the Lorelei Cabins. We stayed in the Astor. It was wonderful. THe cabin was exactly what was promised and more. Lora was so welcoming and helpful. She also visited long enough to make us feel at home and give us some dinner recommendations, then she left us to ourselves. We took walks, hiked, spent hours upon hours on the deck, went into Galena and Dubuque, slept beautifully and felt right at home. The cabin was so clean! THere were extra pillows, an extra comforter, loads of towels, a FULLY equiped kitchen with everything we could want to cook a full meal. But no one cooked. PURE RELAXATION

We enjoyed our stay very much. The cabin was filled with amenities that resembled a suite at an expensive hotel. We felt that the cabin lived up to the pictures on the web-site and then some. The setting is peaceful, with interesting walking trails. The River Museum in Dubuque kept the attention of kids and adults alike, and is only minutes away. Not only would we recommend this site to our relatives, but would consider a repeat stay. As there is only one other cabin on the site, our family used both. The area between the cabins is not well-lighted, so flashlights are useful. We did find a flashlight in our cabin, but it was not in a conspicuous place.

I grew up in the area and came back for a week to visit family and friends. Swiss valley has always been a special place for me so to find a beautiful property like this was incredible. The attention to detail was amazing! It had everything that I needed, and Laura is a very gracious host! The last day I had family over to go fishing and hiking and even take the rowboat for a spin around the pond. I will be a return guest!

I stayed here for a girls' weekend. We rented both cabins and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cabins were close enough to Dubuque for convenience, but far enough away for peace (and some stargazing). The kitchen spaces were thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed (except for muffin tins, but we had already brought those). We all loved the hot tubs! It was a beautiful, wonderful, amazing weekend. I can't wait to go back!!!

My family and I just stayed in one of the Lorelei cabins and had a great experience! There was so much to see and do. We went on a hike through the beautiful land that the cabins are on, we swam, fished, and had a bon-fire while admiring the star filled sky(which is breathtaking!) We are already planning to go back in the fall to see all the beautiful colors on this beautiful land!! Next time will will plan to stay longer so we can enjoy all there is to do!!

The cabin was the perfect getaway from Chicago - not too long of a drive, but just far enough to know that you are really getting away from the city (as if the rolling hills, beautiful landscape and passing deer weren't enough of a clue!). The cabin itself is brand new and beautiful - incredible sunlight, great amenities and such a peaceful location. My wife and I had a fantastic weekend just enjoying the long walks, soaking in the hot tub and whirlpool bath, and firing up the grill - we never even left the property. And our dog had basically the the best time of his life - running free and exploring everything in sight! Thanks Jim and Laura for a perfect weekend!

My wife and I stayed at the cabin as an escape from living in Chicago and it was great. It is clean, spacious and has great amenities including a nice screened in porch and grill area. The trails on the property are great - we could leave our dogs off leash because we basically had the property to ourselves. Both the dogs and us had great hikes. Laura and Jim are both nice and helpful. Laura's also a good tennis player - I'd recommend a game with her for anyone who likes tennis. There are some nice courts in Dubuque also. Overall we would definitely recommend this cabin.

Many thanks to Laura and Jim, we had a great time and our only regret is that it was only one night. There was 5 of us and we had plenty of room. The cabin was great and very clean and well kept. We will be back and hopefully be able to stay longer. Would recommend this to anyone who is looking to get away from the busy city and enjoy nature at it's best. At dusk we seen about 9 deer in the field next to the cabin. Thanks again Laura and Jim.

My husband and I were in town for a funeral and were able to stay at the Lorelei for a few days. It was just what we needed to get us through a difficult time. The hot tub and the whirlpool tub soothed our bodies, and the quiet and peaceful location soothed our souls. The cabin is beautifully decorated and the lay-out is roomy. We are already planning to return in warmer weather to take advantage of the patios and decks and barbecue, plus the hiking and golf cart trails. A fabulous setting. It is hard to believe that a place like this exists after coming from busy southern California. The owners are great and the 3-dog welcoming committee was precious!

My family and I stayed at the cabin for a weekend in March. It was perfect for a family of 9. The cabin was stocked with anything you could ever need. It was very clean and the decor is beautiful. The hot tub was the perfect ending to our busy days. It truly was a home away from home!

This cabin is a delight! My husband and I stayed here in February 2010 and enjoyed it greatly! It was tucked away in a secluded area, but a close drive to restaurants, etc. We plan to bring the entire family back this summer. Thank you!

My wife and I were in town on business and heard about this place through friends who had stayed here. They were right- the Lorelei is just fantastic. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and we loved eating at the Star Brewery down on the river per their recommendation. We are planning a family reunion in the fall and look forward to seeing the colors. What a sanctuary, we feel like we have stayed at a spa for 3 days! A nice change from Chi-town!
