Dubuque cabin description

The Lorelei Cabins are located in Dubuque, Iowa, near Swiss Valley Park. The beautifully decorated cabins, The Edelweiss and The Aster, and our newest property, The Homestead, are perfect for any getaway. The cabins and the house are secluded in an area with over 400 acres of land, yet close enough to the city of Dubuque to enjoy the restaurants, shopping, and other amenities a city has to offer.

A perfect place for a family gathering, reunion, wedding or a romantic getaway. Each season has it's own unique offerings, with the vibrant leaves in the fall, the snow activities in the winter, and the relaxing tranquility of the ponds and Catfish Creek in the spring and summer.

The sunsets are abundant, and the lights of the city are a beautiful back drop to this area. Viewing the wild life and various scenes of nature are an experience everyone can appreciate. Walking in the woods, having a picnic or bird watching, is also recommended.

              • The scenery is breathtaking. We have two ponds for fishing and other water activities, and we use the ponds for ice skating in the winter. We are close to Dubuque, but the feel is country living at it's best. Most people come to the cabins, and they do not want to leave to go eat or do anything but relax, or do outside activities. Great for reunions, family gatherings, weddings, or any other opportunity to get away! We have lots of space, and a party barn, with more games and areas to explore. We also have fire pits, for a bon fire!...moreless

Home for the Holidays…..well….almost! My family and I rented the Aster Cabin over the Christmas Holiday and it worked out beautifully! We traveled from London, St. Paul, Minnesota and Bloomington, Indiana to be together and the accommodations at the Aster were great! From the moment we stepped into the cabin and were treated to a fabulous loaf of cinnamon bread and homemade jam to the subsequent treats of hot cocoa mix and marshmallows, Laura and Jim made sure we were comfortable and cozy in the Iowa winter cold! A decorated live Christmas tree was an added touch to our stay! Jim made certain the lane was plowed making frequent visits to family and friends trouble free! The snow covered trails were a delight to hike in the early morning stillness with a magnificent sky to light the way. The hot tub was most relaxing after busy days and evenings! Thank you Laura and Jim for making our Holiday one to remember!

We have been to Dubuque before but wanted to try something different this time. We travel there to ski at Sundown - and the cabin was about a 20-25 min drive from there (perfect in our minds!). You are close enough to Dubuque to enjoy what they have to offer (which is A LOT) but you feel totally secluded. The cabin was perfectly clean but MUCH larger than we expected. It is easily big enough for a family of 4 plus more. We loved the feeling of being out in nature - the pond was frozen but beautiful and the grounds were amazing. We hiked with snowshoes (provided!) and the roads were all well plowed and safe. We cannot wait to come back and try the cabin/s in a different season! Thanks Jim and Laura - it was a perfect family vacation!

we spent four nights in farm house adjacent to Lorelei cabins and could not have been more pleased. The house was comfortable, the location convenent to Dubuque, the great river road and other activities, and the farm itself offered abundant opportunities for walking, fishing, etc. The owners were also most helpful and pleasant.

My husband and I stayed in the Edelweiss cabin with my brother and sister in-law. We had a great time. The cabin is clean and well stocked with everything you need. The cabin has such a peaceful feel and the view out the back is beautiful. We arrived Thursday evening and didn't leave the cabin to go anywhere until Saturday afternoon...it was that enjoyable to just hang out at the cabin. We did take the golf cart for a ride and that was a lot of fun. My husband and his brother fished both ponds and did actually catch some fish. We took a spin on the peddle boat. We built a fire all three evenings and that definitely made it worth renting the cabin. The stars at night were breathtaking! If you are planning on doing a lot of cooking, the kitchen in the Edelweiss is a bit small. We still managed to make some wonderful breakfasts and did our other meals on the grill. The Astor cabin has a bigger kitchen but I do prefer the gorgeous view from the Edelweiss. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. I called and left a message that we would need some more wood for the evening fire and within a half hour we saw Jim piling up more wood by the fire pit. We talked on a few different occasions with Jim and Laura and they seem to be helpful and genuinely hopeful that you are enjoying your stay at the cabin. The ride into the city is quick and the Galena area isn't too much further so I would say the location is perfect. This was the second stay for my husband and I as just the two of us stayed in April. That visit was also enjoyable. We saw a lot more wild life (deer, turkey, ducks) on that stay and that was really awesome. The weather in April was cold but that made the hot tub that much more indulging. We also cozied up by the fireplace on that stay. I would highly recommend staying here...ANYTIME of the year.

i recently stayed in the Homestead with a few girlfriends for a short "girls" getaway... I have to say that I was completely impressed with the location, cleanliness and atmosphere of the rental. We were able to rent a golf cart and explore many acres of trails, which were challenging, exciting, and a lot of fun!! I would recommend this property, any of the rentals, VERY highly!! The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating .... I have even reserved a cabin for our honeymoon!! Can't say enough about this property!!!!

We loved the cabin ! VERY clean and comfortable. Everything you could possibly want, fully stocked. Very nicely decorated. Enjoyed every relaxing minute. The pond didn't give up any fish but the chilly weather (30's) and my 6 year old daughter's technique probably had a lot to do with it. We hope to come back again and enjoy more of the hiking trails. Thanks for a relaxing, worry free stay !

Had a great time at the cabin, we stayed at the Edelweiss. It was very nice and clean inside, loved the upstairs bathroom! The downstairs was just as nice! We had beautiful weather, and was able to enjoy the hot tub. We built a fire the 2nd night we stayed, it was nice and peaceful, until the geese decided to make an entrance, and made sure we knew they were there! My husband did some fishing and caught a few bass. It was a nice time and so glad we had great weather! Would love to go back in the future and possibly bring our girls, when they are a little bigger.

My sisters, mother and I rented the Edelweiss cabin for our annual fall "girls getaway" weekend. We had a wonderful time and all of us talked about getting back to the Lorelei cabins again, either this same group, with our spouses, or with friends. It was that perfect! Fall is perfect hot tub season, cool, crisp mornings and evenings, wonderfully warm, inviting water in the hot tub! We took a wonderful hike around some of the 5 miles of hiking trails and enjoyed the woods, prairie vista, and creek. The cabin is so tastefully decorated and comfortable, lots of attention to detail! We want to come back and use the paddle boat and canoe next time! Laura is a wonderful hostess, we enjoyed hearing the story of the family land and how they decided to build these wonderful cabins. Thank you and your family for sharing this wonderful spot with so many! We can't wait to come back!.

Just had a terrific weekend in the Aster Cabin, which is even better in person than it appears in the lovely photos of Lorelei Cabins. The Aster is well built, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and contains lots of extra touches that make you feel right at home. These include microwave popcorn, board games, a picnic basket, books and DVDs. It's located in a beautiful country setting amid rolling hills and ponds, and the hiking trails are well maintained and fun to explore. Yet it's only 10-15 minutes from downtown Dubuque, where we enjoyed great food at L. May restaurant and had a wonderful time on our first visit to the National Mississippi River Museum. The owner is very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. In fact, I'm already planning a summer visit so we can use the hot tub next time!

As soon as we walked in, we smelled the soft pine. My husband instantly grabbed one of the cookies Jim and Laura left on the table for us and we looked around the cabin. The freezer had four ice cube trays already made! The refrigerator had a full pitcher of cold filtered water! We then cooked our favorite meal together, one that we first attemped when we first started dating. This time it turned out much better! The cabin was stocked with pots, pans and dishes so we didnt even need to bring our own haha. We played a game of Scrabble then built a campfire outside and watched the fire while sitting in the hottub. I have never done that before. My husband was dissapointed that there was not a TV in the bedroom but it gave us time to talk and reminisce before we fell asleep for the night. Everything was perfect. In the morning, we took the canoe out on their small lake. It was so amazing I didn't want to leave!

About: Laura is originally from Dubuque, Iowa, and Jim is originally from Milwaukee. They have been married 28 years and have three grown 'children'. Both have human service back grounds. Jim is a motivational speaker/educator and owns Creative Education Services as well as Lorelei Cabins with Laura. The best part of owning the cabins has been the great people they get to meet all of the time.

                          Why Dubuque:
This property has been family owned since 1940. The Edelweiss cabin has just recently been built as a way to share the beautiful land with the hiking trails, and communing with nature. My home is a hillside away from the cabin, so we are available to take care of any problems or to help your stay be complete. Please ask us about our other property available to rent as well.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We enjoy all of the amenities the cabin has. We hike, watch the sunsets, snowshoe, look at the stars while in our own hot tub. This property is very close to nature and very private, yet not isolated. We have ponds and the creek, and beautiful landscapes.
