This vacation home is absolutely beautiful! The attention to detail is wonderful. Everything was very clean, high quality and comfortable. Customer service with the owner was excellent as well! I've been a repeat vacationer here for a few years now and will continue to visit for many years to come. We always look forward to our time here and we always have such fond memories once we leave. I wholeheartedly recommend this home and give it an A+++++! Trust me, you won't be disappointed. :)

The house is spacious and was perfect for our family of 10. The location is secluded and quiet, yet convenient to mountain attractions, restaurants and shopping. If you like barbecue, try Cash's att he Whistle Stop. The amenities at the house are more than sufficient. The owner is very responsive and cooperative. All in all, it is a good value.

Hidden Gem is a perfect vacation rental. It sits on a high ridge with unbelievable views. Our three families felt comfortable and relaxed here. In the mornings we sat out on the porch and enjoyed the sweeping vistas of the cloud-covered valley below. In the afternoons we went out to discover the area: hiking trails with waterfalls, gem mining for the kids, and the quaint town of Franklin. In the evenings we came back to enjoy the house: playing pool, using the hot tub, and just relaxing. Also, the owners were super-nice and helpful. I recommend this house to anyone wishing to get away from it all.

I should have wrote this awhile back but I am slack The Hidden Gem had the most beautiful view from the deck off from the main living area. The house was spectacular We stayed 4 nights and would love to stay again. The basement area was where My husband and I slept. We had our on bathroom. The pool table was just out our door and the hot tub was on the enclosed deck. There was a living area and bar down there also. The 2nd floor had two bedrooms and one bath. the dining and great room area were all in one and great. the 4th bedroom was on the 3rd level with its on bathroom. I loved it It was clean and welcoming the owner and Rita were great to work with. I could talk to them like I had known them for ever. The hill going up to the house is very steep, once you get there you know it was all worth it

This cabin was everything we needed to have a wondeful visit: comfort, convenient, and clean. Easily located and very pleasant area in NC. All supplies were available, close to our planned visits, including N. GA and the Smokies. Very spacious with beautiful views, an exceptional home. Thank you so much for sharing with us and are looking forward to visiting again.

Owner response: Dear Dan and Stephany, I am so glad that you enjoy your stay in the mountains. I appreciate your kind response. You were the first guests to enjoy our new spa room. We think it is a great improvement over the crowded room we had before. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. Jerry Porter

We met my husbands brother and wife from Wisconsin at Hidden Gem for a week of fun and relaxation. All we can say is wow. The place is well appointed and the location is wonderful. From gem mining, to waterfalls, to antique shops, the area has something for everyone. We loved the new decks and were able to watch the deer late in the afternoon. The views of the mountains were some of the best I've ever seen. Cool mornings with coffee in a rocker on the deck over looking the mountains is both relaxing and refreshing. Even the mid June hail storm provided for a little excitement as all the ground and trees were covered in white. It only lasted a short time but we got some great photos. The accomodations were really comfortable and I for one was sad to have to leave at the end of our week. The amount of room was great and the extra game room and tv room in the lower level allowed a little get away and late night tv watching without disturbing others in the house. I am disabled and the first floor bedroom and bath accomodated me very nicely. We loved this so much we are actually considering buying a vacation home here. I think I may want to live in the area some day. Rita and Todd were very helpful the one time we needed them. The bottle of wine and card when we arrived was icing on the cake. Thank you Jerry for providing us with a very special vacation. I look forward to coming back to the Hidden Gem in the future, I hope you'll have us. Thanks again.

Owner response: Sharon, Thank you for your kind words. We were so happy that you enjoyed our beatiful mountains. You were the first to get to use our new decks and I am glad the deer came back to their old trail. We will look forward to having you again soon. Jerry Porter

I highly recommend Hidden Gem as a mountain rental. I have stayed before in the fall and I especially enjoyed coming back with dogwoods in bloom all around. The house is well-maintained and appointed. The beds are comfortable with high-quality linens and the kitchen had all we needed for the meals that w'e planned to prepare. The mountain views are beautiful and there isn't a better place to have a getaway!

October 11-15 My husband and I decided we needed a quiet getaway from the city for our honeymoon and Hidden Gem was the perfect place. It was only about an hour and a half from Metro Atlanta and very easy to find. We appreciated Jerry’s clear and organized directions and welcome letter. He makes you feel like family when you visit! When we arrived, we were so impressed! It looked like we had stepped into a page from a magazine. The house was beautifully decorated and extremely clean. My husband loved the huge flat screen TV in the living room! The best part is the breathtaking view from the deck. The photos don’t do it justice! The house was well stocked. There was gourmet coffee, bottles of water, soda, full kitchen with dishes and cooking utensils, laundry room with detergent and fabric softener, plush towels, and the list goes on and on. We enjoyed the charming town and spent one afternoon walking around mainstreet. We went to the Fun Factory one day and ate lunch at the Boiler Room (delicious!) and enjoyed a few games of bowling. One of the highlights for us was the Great Smokey Mountains Railroad. It leaves from Bryson City, which is a 30-45 minute drive from Hidden Gem. The train ride is 4 hours roundtrip with a 30 minute “layover” at a nature center. The leaves were beautiful this time of year. We had a great time on the train and highly recommend it to others. I can’t think of anything bad to say about Hidden Gem. We can’t wait to go back!! -Greg and Ansley Thompson

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Hidden Gem for a nearby family reunion. The owners are extremely friendly and you can tell they enjoy sharing their home. We found the cabin impeccably clean and one of the most well stocked rentals we have experienced. With 3 distinct stories, we never felt crowded. The view from the front porch was amazing. What a perfect scene to enjoy an early morning coffee or evening glass of wine. We loved all the amenities and had a great time playing pool, cards or just relaxing in the hot tub. The cabin is very convenient to everything we wanted to visit and we definitely plan on visiting Hidden Gem again. (If you get a chance, stop by Bateman's Produce for some amazing canned goods. The tomato relish was awesome!)

Our family of 11 that came from both Kentucky and Florida were very pleased with the house and the amenties. The layout made it perfect for 4 different families to each have their own space. We found the house very clean and has great views that we caught many sunsets from. we especially enjoyed being able to put everyone around the dining room table all at one time. Jerry and Rita were very wonderful to work with prior to us committing to this home and answered all our questions. We would defintiely recommend it to others in this area of Franklin and hope to return to it again soon

My family had an excellent time and would highly recommend staying at the Hidden Gem. The location is fantastic. A short drive will take you to the shops of Highlands, or a few minutes drive south you will find the Dillard House and quite possibly the best breakfast you will ever eat. We stayed for only one week, but due to the central location we were able to enjoy many varied activities on day trips. Helen Ga, is a short drive, Cades Cove and Gatliburg Tn. are well worth the trip. We visited over 1/2 dozen excellent easy access waterfalls in the area. There is much to do for all ages. I have 5 sons, 1 year, 2 years, 11 years, 18 years and 20 years, everyone had a great time. If you want to relax, just do it. We did not leave the cabin on two of the days. Between the pool table , the fantastic HD tv's and the jacuzzi room, there was always something to do. This is our third summer vacation to the cabin and the second with the whole family. Recent upgrades made our stay even more enjoyable; thoughtful renovations that enhanced the functionality of the cabin. We just got home and everyone is ready to return next year, when you can get a thumbs up from the teenagers it speaks volumes. See you next year!

I have been at the Hidden Gem many times over the years, and keep coming back because it is a great place. The views are great, the hot tub is great, there are a couple of nice TV's and a pool table for rainy days, and a very pleasant house overall. They have made some nice improvements recently that make it even more beautiful. It is close to Franklin, and within easy driving distance of many great hikes and other activities. My favorite place near the Smokies!

This home is indeed a "Hidden Gem". Elevated to the tree top levels, you see an expansive vista which includes forests and mountain ranges. And what a sunset view from the deck! Do not miss one of these, they are breathtaking. The newly decorated interior is beautifully appointed and sophisticated. It is just beautiful. There are four bedrooms, three full baths, two spearate entertainment/tv areas, game room with pool table and hot tub, all which allows for maximum comfort for large families or allows private quarters for those vacationing in small groups. We loved this home and the whole rental experience with Hidden Gem - we are planning a second visit this year.

Stayed at the Hidden Gem with my family over Easter weekend 2010. The accomodations were much better than we expected. The house was clean and provided plenty of room (and bathrooms) for my family as well as extended family who came along. The town of Franklin was pedestrian-friendly and had a variety of interesting stores and fine restaurants. I highly recommend "gemming" at one of the local facilities. We went to Rose Creek Mines, but I since have heard that there are several good ones to chose from. The basement was well suited for relaxing and playing games in the evening. We would definitely stay here again--very comfortable and relaxing. Thank you!
