2 Story Historic Carriage House on 1889 Victorian View Estate
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Perched on a hill overlooking Puget Sound, Catchpenny Cottage offers affordable excellence as part of a Victorian mansion estate overlooking Puget Sound and the cargo shipping lanes.
Ideal location! Downtown shops and museums, Antique Row and waterfront restaurants are just a few blocks from this remarkable garden retreat. Pt. Defiance Park, a 698 acre rain forest park with gardens, zoo, marina, beach and outstanding aquarium is 15 minutes from the inn, downtown Seattle is just 30 minutes away. Watch the large cargo ships pass by from the inn's wraparound porch, explore Antique Row, or grab a kayak from local outfitters and gain a whole new perspective from the water.
Catchpenny Cottage, a 2 story carriage house on the National Historic Register, offers the best of both worlds - the privacy of a guest house and full access to the first floor of the adjacent Victorian mansion and estate grounds (fireplaces and guest sitting areas, wraparound porch and views of the water).
This estate is the earliest example of landscape gardening in the Pacific Northwest - lots of trees and greenery. Views of Puget Sound and Commencement Bay from the main inn and porch, small view of the bay from carriage house.
Featured on Tacoma's Grand Home Tours and on the National Historic Register, Catchpenny Cottage is located in a great walking neighborhood, filled with tree-lined streets, graceful turn-of-the-century mansions and lovely estate gardens. A 27 acre park and Victorian Conservatory is just 3 blocks away.
Once used to house the carriages and horses of the estate, Catchpenny Cottage has an 8 ft. curved iron canopy bed (queen) and a new queen sofa sleeper in the downstairs bedroom area, along with a Jacuzzi alcove and private bath w/shower. The Jacuzzi is built into a large raised slate deck in what was originally the horse's stall.
The upstairs was once the carriage master's quarters and the hayloft (the hay chute is still intact). There is now a bedroom with a queen carved pineapple bed, large walk-in closet, private sitting room, private bath with claw foot tub and shower. The sitting room has a wonderful oversized lounging chair and ottoman - great for an afternoon of book browsing (there is also a twin rollaway for extra sleeping accommodations).
Cable TV/VCR are in both upstairs and downstairs sitting areas. The 2 suites can be rented separately, or joined together to sleep 6-7 comfortably. Lots of antiques, estate memorabilia, original stained tongue-and-groove walls - very unique, fun! There are additional rooms that can be rented in the main building of the bed and breakfast, as well as a 2 bedroom kitchenette with water view (check with owner on details).
Guests have 24 hour access to the guest kitchen, which is kept well-stocked with complimentary juices, bottled water, sodas, hot chocolate, teas, popcorn. Kitchen includes fridge, sink, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, dishes (no stove).
Full gourmet breakfasts are available for an additional fee (check with owner on pricing options and sample menus).
This historic property have been featured in several publications, including Sunset Magazine, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel & Leisure Magazine, Coastal Living, Best Places to Kiss Northwest, Northwest Best Places, Recommended Country Inns of the Pacific Northwest, Amazing Getaways and Seattle Magazine. We are a 2009 top 10 Frommers choice among hotels & bed and breakfasts in the entire state of Washington.
