Situated on two private acres among pinion, juniper, and Ponderosa pines in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Range, this newly-built(2003), three bedroom plus house is a perfect spot to relax after a long day spent skiing or seeing the many sights of Taos.

This is a hand-crafted, custom-built, Non-Smoking home with Southwest touches such as coved plaster ceilings, log vigas, and the traditional Northern New Mexico-style pitched roof. The house’s many windows are oriented to frame the mountain views and embrace the New Mexico sun with a warm southern exposure that heats and brightens the house all winter. The large south-facing deck on the main level and the two private upper balconies can be enjoyed all year. A full-length covered porch on the north side stays cool through the summer months and provides plenty of room to stomp off snow in the winter.

The house is located north of the town of Taos (nine miles), off the road to the Taos Ski Valley (eight miles). The elevation is estimated to be 7900 feet - which means cool and refreshing nights even in the heat of the New Mexico summer.

Inside, there are three bedrooms: the master bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. One upstairs room has a lovely view of the Taos Ski Valley mountain, and is furnished with a queen bed. The other bedroom has twin beds and an optional futon double mattress for additional guests. Both upstairs rooms have large private balconies with southern views of the Truchas mountain range. The entire first floor has vigas with coved ceilings, and French doors opening onto the large south deck. The master bathroom has a large tub with a picture window framing a view of pine trees. The living room has a large fireplace, for nights before the roaring fire. The living room also has a queen-size sofa bed for extra sleeping capacity. The attractive kitchen has a Jenn-Air range and granite tile countertops, and is fully-equipped for most cooking needs.

There is an outdoor Jacuzzi tub for skiers to soak away the effects of a long day on the slopes. Taos Ski Valley is near our house, and Angel Fire is a short drive in the other direction. In winter, snow often blankets our property and there is a sledding slope for kids near the driveway. In summer, you are encouraged to bring your mountain bikes to explore the trails reached directly from our house.

NOTE: Our house is reached by a 1.9 mile county-maintained dirt road (Gallina Canyon Road). Depending on the time of year, a four-wheel drive vehicle may be recommended due to snow conditions.

We drove up from Albuquerque to spend a weekend in Taos. This was a great location, very quiet and peaceful. The house was just right for us, and had everything we needed.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+.

Owner response: We built the Casa to let our California kids learn about the mountains and the wide open spaces of New Mexico, where I grew up. A peaceful weekend getaway is great for Burkers (Albuquerque-ans), but coming from San Diego we like to stay at least a week. But any time a family enjoys our home is a good time in our view.

This lovely three level house had every convenience and amenity needed for our three families including 6 kids. Very large downstairs master bedroom and bath! Nice upstairs sleeping arrangements and bath, as well. The large hall bath including the shower was perfect for our teenage girls. Many cooks in the kitchen was no problem in the HUGE KITCHEN - plenty of floor space and counter space. The large dining table was perfect for all of us. Beautiful view from all sides. Owner was very helpful and friendly and answered every question quickly and politely both before and during our stay. Well maintained and attractive. Very enjoyable and comfortable stay at Casa Quintana.

My family and I met for a small family reunion and found the home to be excellent for our needs. A large deck to sit and visit, along with a gameroom for children of all ages made the stay very pleasant. Each of the bedrooms were large enough to sleep every one comfortably, and the location outside of Taos made for cool comfortable nights. The owner is easy to deal with, and our family would definitely consider coming back to this home again.

My family of seven spent the Christmas week here and it could not have been any better. Our teenagers made good use of the ping-pong table, hot tub, and satellite TV. It's an all-around fantastic home that I'd strongly suggest. Enjoy!

I can't tell you how much we loved the Quintana house. It was perfect for a family, and we took full advantage of the sledding, the fooseball table, the ping pong, the views, the hot tub, the stars... just about everything was a joy and a revelation. We would happily live in this house forever. The Quintanas have thought of everything.

The house was beautiful. We stayed the week of Christmas and I have to say it was the best family vacation we have had yet! Mr Quintana called to make sure everything was perfect and it was. The house was completely equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The house was perfect, the views stunning, and the location was ideal to the many things to do. We will definitely be back!!!!

This home in the countryside above Taos, and near the ski area, is an easy drive into town. It has extraordinary views south and east toward the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Sunsets and sunrises are glorious as is the quiet and peacefulness of the immediate surroundings. It's a short distance both to a small bridge over the Rio Grande located next to a good swimming hole and a slightly longer drive the large bridge over the extraordinary Rio Grande gorge. The house itself is beautiful with balconies adjoining each bedroom, a spacious kitchen and dining/living room area, and a deck with wonderful views. It is impossible to exaggerate how peaceful, beautiful, and comfortable this house is to visit. We hope to return again as soon as possible.

We have stayed at this house for the past two years between Christmas and New Years. I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed the stay. The house worked very well for two families (one family of four and one of five) and there was plenty of room for everyone. The house is very secluded, yet very convenient to any activities whether it be skiing or the town. During our stay, we had a few questions with the home which were promptly answered by the owner. This is a great property to rent and we will be back in the future.

Our family of four very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. The amenities were quite comfortable and private. Some of our favorite activities at the property were: nightly s'mores at the firepit, pitching horseshoes, throwing darts, and watching movies on the nice entertainment system. There is an extensive library with good variety of books on many subjects. The owner was very helpful and responsive to all our inquiries prior to, during, and after our stay. We stayed in late July and the evenings were perfect for open window sleeping or relaxing around a fire with a nice beverage. We would definitely stay there again if visiting Taos.

What a beautiful setting and how well appointed this place is. It is close enough to Taos to access it easily, and far enough away to feel really removed from the noise and activity. The windows and openness really give you wonderful views. The kitchen must have been done by someone who knows cooking and what makes a kitchen work. The master suite is quite private and yet accessible to the rest of the common area. We had a full moon that was majestic in its illumination of nearly every room! We recommend a stop at Abe's in Arroyo Seco for home made, REAL mexican food. It is a dive and tiny, but it is authentic, and good.
