The PAINTED SKY LODGE is a beautiful single family home situated on a spit of land that enjoys both Gulf of Mexico and bayou waterfront views located in old Florida Cedar Key. As appropriately named, you will always be able to observe the ever changing and majestic painted skies beginning with each sunrise and ending at sunset. Historical Cedar Key, a collection of small islands, is an unspoiled fishing, clamming, and oyster harvesting village that offers visitors and residents alike a lifestyle that is all about today—leaving yesterdays behind and not worried about what tomorrow will bring. Pull off your shoes, wiggle your toes, prop your feet up, and let that “other life” just ooze away.
The PAINTED SKY LODGE is a unique home that offers its guests and residents comfortable and spacious bedrooms plus open living areas. The walk-around screened porch completely surrounds the house. Each bedroom offers water views in addition to a private door that opens on to the porch. The kitchen is fully equipped with beautiful granite counter tops, and spacious cabinets while overlooking the marsh and bayou. An open bar allows easy transfer of food and beverages to the dining table. The dining table and kitchen bar can sit 8 guests comfortably with more if there need be a squeeze. The living room, consisting of Mission furniture, fireplace and satellite TV make this area “oh” so comfortable. In addition, for the adventurous, you may climb the living room spiral staircase to the widow’s peak located atop the roof for spectacular 360 degree views of the islands, marshes, bayous, and Gulf of Mexico.
The PAINTED SKY LODGE offers many conveniences that all guests may enjoy. An ELEVATOR is available in addition to two (2) sets of staircases. A 2-seat GOLF CART (Ole Squeaky) is also available as part of the rental package but limited to those guests that are 21 years of age with a valid drivers license. You’ll have access to all of Cedar Key’s restaurants, shops, and sights without having to worry about where you’ll park your car. The laundry room has full size clothes washer & dryer along with sink and folding areas. There are two (2) very spacious car garages with remote controlled doors. There is a pet kennel in the garage as well as a gated and fenced dog run besides the house. The boat and dock facility has sitting benches, fish-cleaning table, and a floating dock to launch your kayak or fish and crab from. (Boats can be launched from the City Marina.) If you fly your own airplane, you can land at the Cedar Key airport, and walk directly to the house within minutes.

2011 REFLECTIONS & INSIGHTS--2011 was a fantastic year for all seasons and interests. Birders were able to observe the spring and fall migrations with flocks of waterfowl, waders and raptors. The local ospreys and eagles were always dancing in the sky. Most noticeable were the white pelicans that were in residence from November thru March. Roseate Spoonbills and Wood Storks will once again take up residence during April/May and stay thru the fall. On several summer evenings we also had a great horned owl that enjoyed perching atop the house--his own personal 360 degree look out.
The fishing for 2011 and spring 2012 was and has been outstanding and productive. The flats fishing has flourished with speckled trout, red fish, and Spanish mackerel. During 2011 our guests hooked up several tarpon that were released. During the winter months the red fish "catchin" was the best it had been in years. Fishing from air boats the anglers were able to take advantage of the real skinny water in the tidal creeks and bayous. As of February 1, 2012, an important limit change for red fish has increased the daily limit to two (2) fish per person.
Since there was only a slight winter in Cedar Key, the 2012 spring "flats" fishing has been fast and furious. Already, the Gulf waters on the flats have warmed up over 70 degrees and the speckled trout are out in masses. Big trout are being caught with almost everyone catching their limits.
Interested on taking a fish trip? We will have available the names of several fishing guides that we are familiar with and their talents. Flats fishing, air boat fishing, and off-shore fishing.
Due to popular demand, a 2nd hammock is now on the porch. Also, Ole Squeaky has a new set of batteries in time for the 2012 spring and summer seasons.

Our recent experience was absolutely wonderful. From the initial conversation with Pelican Realty to the house...just perfect. Every room has an amazing view. And being right next to the airport, so neat! When I first booked the house, I definitely thought the elevator would be a bonus. Well, I had no idea how much we would use it. Our lazy bulldog and my Grandmother enjoyed it :) It also helped loading and unloading. We truly look forward to our next visit at Painted Sky.

We got engaged in Cedar Key in 2008, and returned back there for our first wedding anniversary this year! We sure picked the perfect place. Painted Sky Lodge satisfied every single thing we look for in a rental home for vacation. Super dog friendly, excellent kitchen, fire place, and a lovely porch. Not to mention the golf cart (dont underestimate the $$ value of having that) - we didn't drive our car for four days - plus we could snuggle while we drove! :) It was so neat to see the little prop planes take off from that little air strip - and they weren't It was super clean, the king bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable (my most important feature) and we loved the boat dock and we didnt even bring our boat! My husband and I will never stay anywhere else when we visit Cedar Key, and Cedar Key has become our favorite long weekend destination. Thank you!!!

Old ballplaying friends gathered at Painted Sky for our annual get together. This place was GREAT! It was beautiful and we are planning to rent it again in the future. You couldn't ask for better accommadations. The view was beautiful and we only wished we had rented for a longer period of time. The fishing & crabbing was everything we could ask for. We never even put the boat in the water. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing something as wonderful as Painted Sky.

This is my favorite place to stay at Cedar Key with my four legged friends. The location is very peaceful with amazing views of nature. The wrap around porch is a great place to see it all - this is also my dog's favorite feature! I was worried that staying so close to the airport would ruin my relaxing retreat, but that wasn't at all the case - there were only a couple of plane takeoff/landing during my stay and they were quite interesting to watch. There is also a nice boat dock from which I have caught a couple of fish. The interior of the house is very pleasant, spacious and clean. We also found it very convenient to get around the island via golf cart - we picked up a driving history tour map and has a great time!

My mother and I spent a glorious week at this property. Everything was absolutely perfect. We really did not want to come home. In the morning, all I had to do to watch the sunrise was roll over in bed and look through the blinds. At night, sit on the front porch to watch the sunrise. We have already made 3 other reservations for this year to go back and enjoy. The elevator with Mr. Hudson on the inside door made my day. Who can say they had Mr. Hudson with a silver tray of sherry welcoming them every day?
