  Awesome experience. I must say that I never knew such a place even existed in this country. I thought places like this were only written about in fictional books. Washington Island is without any doubt a place that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. (although, if you go once, you will be going back again) The Funk cabin made our trip even that much more "vintage". With all the islands history and character, I could not have imagined staying anywhere else. The cabin expresses the same kind of historic charm that the rest of the island expresses. The sunsets! I cant even put into words to describe the sunsets from the Funk cabin. By far the best sunset I have ever seen. People all across the country have seen nice sunsets, but there are not many places where you can see the sun kiss the water as it sets. Its all about making memories with friends and loved ones. Our stay at the cabin did just that. I thank the owners for such an incredible stay and I so very much look forward to returning in the near future.

  My wife and 2 kids stayed at the Funk cottage for a long Labor Day weekend. We were more than happy with the accomondations. Cottage was very clean with lots of room!! The location is fantastic. Nice and close to the ferry dock. Hidden back in the woods away from the road. The view of the water from the master bedroom is gorgeous. The sunsets from here are spectacular!!! Outside, the kids had a ball playing in the water swimming and chasing crayfish while mom and dad relaxed on the chaise lounge chairs provided down by the beach. Extremely quiet and relaxing. Watching salmon fishing boats trolling by in the evening with the beautiful orange sunsets behind them is what I will be back for again in the future. This is definitely a great place to 'recharge the batteries' and get away from it all. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone.

  The location was wonderful and as advertised the sunsets were spectacular. The evening flights of the feeding bats was also really cool. The firepit down by the water was neat and there was a lot of deadfall that could be used as fuel As to the house, the only positive I have to say is that the bed in the master was firm and comfortable. The house was a little dusty and very musty. There were several areas were the electrical wiring was surely not up to code. The furniture and carpet is worn out. The grill and the kitchen utensils are adequate, but if you are a cook you may want to bring your own pans. The microwave is worn out. There was also lots of bugs, especially spiders, and lots in the bathroom. It seemed to us that the house is closed up for the winter, as the storm windows on the lake side leak badly when it rains. We will probably not stay here again but we will be returning to the Island

  Owner response: We appreciate your review of the cottage, we can only improve if we are informed about things that work and may not. This is a waterfront home that has beautiful shore frontage and is surrounded by mature hardwood for privacy. With that, comes nature which we do the best we can to keep clean and fresh. With weekly rentals we can only do this once a week. The wiring is up to code. There are a few older lamps that we have kept in the home for sentimental reasons that have old plugs. All the main room lighting is less than 10 years old. We will look into your other comments and make sure all are addressed. It is our mission to provide a safe, relaxing place for people to stay and enjoy our beautiful Island.

  I thought it could have had easier access to the shore line. We are a little old to jump from rock to rock. We would have liked to use the inside fire place.

  Owner response: Thanks for your review, we really value your comments. Yes there is a rocky shore, beautiful, but yes must be careful walking on them. Because of the DNR restrictions, you can only put decking a certain distance from the water. The fireplace is a liability, it would be an added risk for the home owner. Again, we really appreciate our guests, thank you for the feedback.
