Welcome Retreat a Spectacular Panoramic Oceanfront View

Welcome Retreat sits on a bluff overlooking the panoramic sweep of the ocean waves breaking on the over a mile of sandy beach protected by dunes. On a weekend you will see surfers, windsurfers, and kite boarders mastering the waves. Across the ocean inlet stands the long peninsula Pt. Reyes National Park where herds of tule elk roam.
We consider Welcome Retreat a gift of God which we delight in sharing with those who come to enjoy it. It provides a place of serenity, peace, joy, laughter, fun, sharing with family and friends, or a place to cozy up with a book around the fireplace.
The large master bedroom upstairs with its own bathroom and king sized bed provides great rest with Tempurpedic mattress. The upstairs sunroom off the Master Bedroom with its own bath allows for private extra sleeping space on 2 queen sized futons. Separate living spaces allow individual down-time when families share accommodations together. Each of the downstairs bedrooms has a queen sized bed.
The large Circular living room and couch provides a great place for families to visit. The kitchen is very well equipped. Every living space has an ocean view. There is a separate dining room off the kitchen with a large table. Or, eat in the downstairs sunroom with ocean and beach surrounding and the view of the national park.

my group of friends had a great weekend at this charming house, something about the round living room made it seem even more welcoming. The only thing missing was an outside deck but it was too windy to be outside much anyway. We could sit in the living room and watch the waves and the surfers. The upstairs bedroom is truly spectacular. I would love to stay here again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Why would anyone travel to Dillon Beach and not be able to see the beach? Why would you spoil the magnificent view with neighboring roof tops? Why, when you could stay at Welcome Retreat and have a front row seat! I needed to escape and spend some quality time with myself and I found the perfect place to do so. Not a sliver of sunshine the entire time but it did not matter. It forced me to light a fire and snuggle in to one of the many scenic nooks and actually read a book. Sigh. The main room is perfect for Yoga!! Bring your mat! The neighborhood is very quiet and the sound of the waves lull you to sleep. A last minute booking piggy backed me right on top of the outgoing family and the owner and cleaning staff were very accomodating. A very welcomed retreat.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our group, three families totaling 9 people, had a great beach vacation here. The house is big and very comfortable. It is very clean and the full kitchen provides everything required to prepare great meals. It is ideally located with stunning views looking out to the ocean. It is close to a footpath that provides relatively easy access down to the sandy beach. The younger ones in our party were excited to see deer roaming the neighborhood. Any problems we encountered were dealt with effectively by the owners. There were really easy to work with.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks Graeme. It was a pleasure having your families staying at our house! We're glad you loved your stay!

Our family rented a number of beach houses at Dillon Beach over the Memorial Day weekend to celebrate a wedding and we got to stay in the Welcome Retreat. We were two families with some adult children and it was just wonderful! The space gave us all privacy when we needed it and time to come together for meals or to gather in the sun room to watch the ocean. We were able to watch two of the kids learn to surf from the warmth and comfort of the sun room. The house has good flow and we were able to host a lovely "get to know you" party for the bridal couple. I talked to the owner a couple of times and he could not have been more accommodating. This will be high on our list if we ever get back to California! Two places to check out - down the road is an oyster farm - oysters on the grill were wonderful and a treat for Minnesota travelers and in Tomales we went to the oldest saloon in Marin County and had a great time. I highly recommend this property.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We loved every moment of time there the location and views were perfect . One area of concern I believe you have carpenter ants eating out a window frame in the living room (2nd window from the left) We found piles of debris on the window still everyday We had a number of friends and relative visit us there and they all expressed interest in renting the property themselves..Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: To VRBO: First, I appreciate the enthusiastic positive response of the renter and his guests! Each expressed a desire to rent Welcome Retreat again! You are indeed welcome at Welcome Retreat! I think the section on carpenter ants should be regarded as unverified by potential renters. The renter appropriately expressed to me as the owner, an area of concern. I corresponded with the renter and asked him if he or his party saw any ants at the place where he saw the wood filings. He said no. What is submitted is his opinion to the owner, which he has done. The view is not professionally verified. The renter showed an appropriate concern for the owner's property and the owner appreciated it. The owner will have the area of concern looked at professionally. Russ Llewellyn, owner

Our family got together this weekend for Auntie at this beach home in Dillon Beach. It's called the Welcome Retreat. From every room you could see the ocean. Open the windows and you'd fall asleep to the rustling waves brushing the shore. It's so peaceful here. We played our ukuleles in the sunroom and I got a great shot of Uncle overlooking the ocean as birds flew by. It was raining the first day but it was still very beautiful. The next day we were able to go fishing not too far at Lawsons Landing. We fished up a few dungeness crabs and took them home for dinner. They were delicious. At evening we strummed again overlooking the sunset. It was lovely. If there were ever a place to escape from it all and spend quality time with the family, this is the place. We miss it already. Hope to go back soon. See you.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Eleven of us had a great time here. The house is very clean and big enough to have room for everyone. Everything is provided, from a full kitchen to a big living room looking out to the ocean, a good size dining room for a family gathering ... The beach is not white sand but quite nice. Though the block is crowded with houses, it is very much quiet since most houses are vacation rentals (I assume) and not every one is rented.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The pictures could not do justice to the peace and serenity of Welcome Retreat. From the beauty of the ocean, the sound of the waves breaking and the deer roaming freely, it was just what the doctor ordered. The owner was so easy to work with and accomodating. Some distance from the bustle of the city and that was exactly what we were looking for.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway.

I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a beautiful place to spend time with the people they love. The owners were always in touch with me when I needed something, but never bothered me when I didn't. Absolutely no hassles! We cooked tons of food, opened Christmas presents, laughed all night, and awed at the sunset. It was perfect in every way. I can't wait for an excuse to go back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Year Purchased: 1987
About the owner: I'm a father, grandfather and Christian clinical psychologist and author. My wife had a career in human resources and now works with me as we do couples counseling work for people in Christian ministry.
Why the Owner Chose Dillon Beach:
We love the sights and sounds of the ocean in all its moods and its sunsets. It sits high on a bluff and the sandy beach curves around the ocean to the bay with dunes. It's easily accessible from the Bay Area, but has the feel of the pastoral countryside of England, Ireland or Scotland.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You'll be staying in a unique, and we think delightful home with a redwood panneled circular living room and windows with a panoramic veiw of the beach and ocean. There is a second story of windows over the living room, supported by a ceiling tha slopes upward toward the middle. Also, we are novel readers, so stock the baskets with great books. Happy page turning!
