Prouts Neck house description
Our wonderful summer cottage has been in the family for 130 years. We are on a pretty lane which dead ends at the beach. The beach at Prouts Neck is one of the most private and beautiful in the world. Our home is very comfortable for parents and children or grandparents and family due to having 5 bedrooms, 4 are upstairs, as are two bathrooms, and one bedroom with en suite bath is downstairs. All are renovated. Modern but old fashioned style kitchen. Best of both worlds!! Laundry machines are new.
Our floors are painted an attractive blue and we have new windows & screens. We don't have or need A/C. This is Maine, by the water!! There are several TVs. Tons of new and old books in the Diningroom/library.
We're a 2 hour drive from Boston. There's an airport in Portland. We're around 15 minutes to Portland and the fabulous Exchange Street restaurants and shops. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to stay at 'Prouts'. We often go to Freeport for shopping at L.L. Bean and all the other great shops, then come home and hit the beach to regain our strength. The hustle and bustle of Old Orchard Beach, and the summerstock theatre in Ogunquit are wonderful fun. We also love going to Kennebunkport, to gallery hop.
We will NOT contact you to see if you want to re-rent. Please make early arrangements, (we love return visitors), to 'protect' 'your' week(s). We often fill up for the next year; soon after labor day. You've been warned!

The house was exactly what we were looking for. The kids loved all the history that was evident through all the books, photos and artwork -- a real compilation over time. A great family vacation!

Owner response: I'm so delighted that our house was all you had hoped it would be. By next summer, we are planning to have a brand new fridge which can make ice and chilled water. We are repainting the floors in Spring of 2014 and making other little improvements, as always. Please come back again.
Charming Prouts Neck House
Charming Prouts Neck House
We had a wonderful stay at this charming home in Prouts Neck. It is super close to the beach so we could walk down day and evening. Evenings were beautiful there as the tide goes way out and we could walk the beach and search for Sea glass. The cottage itself is so charming and had everything we needed. The bathrooms are newly updated and the washer and dryer in the house is so helpful! The house is much larger than it appears by photos which was a nice surprise. There is plenty of room for family members to visit. My children loved the room with the pool table, and were able to learn to play for the first time. The neighbors were lovely, and so helpful with advice for getting around town. I was so thankful to get back to this area where I had vacationed as a child. Thank you again for sharing your home with us. We truly appreciated it!!

Our stay at prouts neck was great, every detail for a wonderful time was thought out. Mike and Chou Chou have a fantastic beach house. There was enough room for everyone, including the dog. The area is so quiet at night and the days are just what you need for a relaxing vacation. The residents of garrison lane were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had about the area. Just a great place to have a family vacation.

Perfect Beach Cottage
Perfect Beach Cottage
My husband, myself, our two grown sons and a girlfriend spent a week here in June 2011. Despite several rainy and cold days (thankful for the great propane heater in the living room!), we had a wonderful time in this clean, well-equipped, and comfortable cottage. There is no need to bring anything with you to stay here. It's all been thought out for you, right down to multiple beach towels and a washer and dryer to stay on top of the laundry that being at the beach brings with it. This is a safe and quiet neighborhood and the beach is literally just a walk down the dead-end lane. The beach itself is adjacent to Scarborough Beach, which has a lifeguard. The owner was helpful and friendly, and checked in with us during our stay. No complaints, only thanks!

Comfort and Charm
Comfort and Charm
Our family of eight with a baby and dogs had a wonderful week in this charming summer home. Everything we needed was provided as listed, it was clean & welcoming, and there was even a beach rose in a vase left for us on the dining room table. The ownwers answered all our questions before we came, they were great to do business with. We enjoyed nice big bedrooms with comfy beds, all made up for us to crawl into, plenty of room in the kitchen for all of us to cook, and a big table to gather around for dinner and games. Gorgeous Scarborough Beach is a short walk down the lane, and my beloved Portland is minutes away. We did take trips to some of our favorite haunts, but we had our our best times in this wonderful cottage. Sitting in the sun on the front porch or enjoying the privacy of the back patio brought us relaxation and peace and always a smile. I was born in Portland, we have stayed in many cottages in this area in the past 35 + years, and this Prout's Neck home is the best yet. We will be back again and again, I recommend this this rental to everyone.

Owner response: I am so new to renting our home through VRBO, that I JUST saw this when I hit a wrong button. AMAZED, by your generous comments. I will print and pin up this note, to remind myself of the pleasure of being nice and feel the glow of being so handsomely rewarded for it. Our home thanks you, for your affection for it. You are VERY welcome to return. Thank you.
A beautiful week in lovely Prouts Neck
A beautiful week in lovely Prouts Neck
I spent the week of July 10-17, 2010 here with my family and I was very pleased with the rental. There was plenty of room in the house and everything you could possibly need-loads of towels, washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, 3 TV's, internet, and two beaches within walking distance! The closer beach is quite rocky, but after the first day we learned to go at low tide when the rocks are not a problem and you can walk quite a long distance on the sand or in the water. No fee to visit this beach. The more sheltered beach on the other side of the road was wonderful for my 8 month old grandchild who loved sitting in the shallow water. There is a $10 per car charge for this beach, but the fee is reduced to $5 after 3PM and free after 5PM. The place was very clean and well-kept with a fan in each bedroom. I did a little research online and found that the actor Gary Merrill lived in this house for a while when he was married to Bette Davis! The only "minus" we encountered was a dismaying telephone call from a neighbor asking that I "tell my musician to stop playing his saxophone" because "if everyone in the neighborhood practiced their instrument we would have cacophony." My son is a successful professional trumpet player, not a high school amateur, and it was 5:00 in the afternoon when he was practicing. He used a silent brass mute or went out to the sheltered beach to practice after that and there were no more complaints. This minor incident did not spoil our good time, but renters should be aware that "noise" is frowned upon in the neighborhood. All in all, I would definitely recommend this home as a wonderful place for a family vacation-but don't go taking MY week!!!

Owner response: The rocks on the beach were swept in by a storm and were subsequently rolled back out again. This is a VERY rare occurrance. I had seen it only once before in over 38 years at Prouts.

About the owner: We had fun at this nearby Kennebunkport Gallery and were back at the beach after lunch. Our sons are the family's 5th generation in this sweet summer home.
Why the Owner Chose Prouts Neck:
This great summer cottage has been in our family for well over 100 years and has been lovingly maintained and modernized. We have painted wood floors. Everything you need to be modern, to be comfortable..IS modern. We will NOT contact you to RE-RENT. PLEASE...we want you to be happy...remember to book as SOON as possible for the next year to try to make sure nobody else 'takes it'. This HAS been a problem!!! Protect your week(s).
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We have a wonderful fireplace and relish beach walks to collect driftwood kindling. We have an outdoor shower (with hot water) to rinse the salt from bathing suits when you're not yet ready to call it a day. When we renovated the third bathroom, we couldn't part with the claw footed tub. It's out on the patio and the shower nozzle reaches it!!! We have a garage but it's not for cars. Go look. Washer and dryer are new.
