Hampton Bays is in the town of Southampton, and is the gateway to the Hamptons. Long Island forks at this point, giving the town a close proximity to both ocean beaches (Ponquogue Beach State Park) and calm water bay beaches (Shinnecock Bay and Meschutt Beach State Park on Peconic Bay - featuring a playground, live music every night and a stand-out beach bar and restaurant.) Across the Shinnecock Canal, the house is actually in Shinnecock Hills, known for it's famous golf course, one of the oldest in the U.S., and the U.S. Open. (Good luck getting a tee time!) Set back away from the road, facing sunny Southeast, the house location is near to many local restaurants, other fine public golf courses (a rated list is available,) jet-ski rentals, fishing boat excursions, clamming, and Vineyards. Southampton is five miles East, Hampton Bays is two miles West. Several Marinas within one mile rent boats. Fifteen minutes to Atlantis Marine World, Long Island's Aquarium.
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: I grew up in Whitestone, New York and went to school at Fordham Prep and Columbia U. I work as a video engineer on commercials. My wife went to James Madison U. and the Culinary Institute of America. She handles the property and more. We and our two boys live in Brooklyn.
Why the Owner Chose Hampton Bays: I bought the house before I was married as a place my family could meet for holidays. It was also near to Hampton Bays where my sister had moved in the 1990's. Now that we have kids the house is again something new. We decided to shorten the deck and bring in 80 tons of clean sand to create a private beach above the real one four feet below the walkway in this picture of my son. We also ran a picket fence around the front yard to keep in our kids and our dog where we can see them. This year we renovated and heated the garage for a rainy day play room with a pool table. The house is always a work in progress but it is nearly all that we ever hoped it could be.
The Unique Benefits at this House: There is a magical feeling about the house, the nearness to the water. Waking up and having tea or coffee on the beach after an outdoor shower is always vacation to me. Having a small fire in the pit on the beach in the evening is another one of my favorite things to do with the kids.We go through a lot of marshmallows.
