My family LOVED spending this Christmas in the Sherrill's cottage. They have decorated the inside with welcoming colors and artwork. Their location is PRIME, both on the golf course and mystical marsh and a view of the ocean only steps away. The island was quiet yet friendly. When we walked the beach or down the sandy lanes, we would pass a friendly hand wave or two but not much more. Our children loved being able to run free and explore the clean beach. Marshside Mama's restaurant was yummy and the clientele came from everywhere! They had a BONFIRE roaring in the yard where we could watch the sunset while we waited for our food. We went to Daufuskie Crab Company one night for BBQ, the fries were the best. We will return to the Sherrill's place this summer. The rates were much lower than directly on the beach but it was so close!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+.

I can't begin to explain the beauty of Daufuskie Island SC, a natural untouched jewel in the Atlantic right off of the coast of South Carolina. Once you arrive after a brief boat ride you are greeted with the natural beauty of the Island. Our Golf Cart awaited us on the dock, and we proceeded to the beautiful cottage in Melrose Plantation. As we walked in I was immediately impressed with the high end yet comfortable decor'. The Cottage was immaculate in every way. Every area was a retreat all unto itself. The bedrooms were beautiful and comfortable. as we walked out onto the back screened porch area we were right on the Golf course and Marsh area of Melrose Plantation. Perfect for early morning coffee and just the pleasant sounds of nature and the occasional putt. As we headed out of the front door we were looking at the beautiful beach and waters of the Island.A quick walk across the road/path and we were seaside. There was just enough civilization for the comforts for the perfect vacation and never felt crowded or rushed while there. We were on Daufuskie Time! I highly recommend this Island but especially this Heavenly Cottage to anyone interested in an unforgettable and wonderful vacation!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

My family and I just got back from Daufuskie Island where we spent a relaxing, fun filled week in the Sherrill's gorgeous cottage. The cottage is wonderful and right across from the ocean and walking distance to the pool. It was a perfect location! The interior was gorgeous and well stocked. Our time there was relaxing and fun filled. I loved the deserted beach, where other than a handful of people we were the only ones there. We also enjoyed eating our fresh catch and I loved just reading and relaxing by the ocean. The pool was awesome and a nice change from the beach. Cummins, the cottage owner was wonderful throughout the whole process and answered all our questions promptly. My family and I travel a lot, typically around five or six times a year and I can say that this was one of the best vacations we have ever taken. I would highly recommend this property for a laid back relaxing vacation!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+.

From the moment we got onto the ferry in Hilton Head, we truly felt that we were on a unique vacation. We had never been to Daufuskie Island but had heard about it's wonderful charm and peaceful setting. The island itself exceeded our expectations - beautiful, serene, full of wildlife, shells & sand dollars in abundance, horses on trail rides on the beach, friendly & few people and fun dining experiences, as well. Our vacation could not have been as wonderful without the perfect accommodations here at the Sherrill's cottage. The cottage was beautifully decorated, so very comfortable, clean and the perfect size for our family of four. We spent many hours sitting on the back screened porch as our children played in the yard and on the golf course right behind the cottage. Most of our time, however, was spent across the pebble road at the beautiful beach (which we can see from the front porch.) Hours and hours were spent shell hunting - the kids found at least 100 sand dollars, horseshoe crabs were plentiful as well. We even found, what seemed like, the world's largest clam! The owners were so kind and helpful with us as we prepared for our vacation on Daufuskie. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable through phone calls and emails. Any question we had about our trip was answered with kindness and enthusiasm. We can't say enough about our vacation last week on Daufuskie Island in this cottage....it was truly a gem!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+.

About the owner: Growing up on the Gulf Coast and marrying my college sweetheart from NC where we reside this part of the Lowcountry has always sang to my soul and provided an idyllic retreat from the rest of the world. We come to escape the fast paced life and know you will too as you enjoy your stay as much as we do.
Why the Owner Chose Melrose Plantation:
Beautiful, peaceful and not over developed. An island unto its own. Without cars and fast food chains you decompress from the point you get on the boat headed to Daufuskie and achieve an ever deeper point of relaxation with each day on the Island. Our beach looks back to Hilton Head's Harbour Town to the North and across the sound to Tybee Island in Georgia as Daufuskie is the last barrier island in SC.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The tranquil boat ride from either Hilton Head or Savannah makes one forget the stress of our hustle and bustle world. You will see Dolphins, Pelicans, Ospreys and a myriad of other flora and fauna along the rivers that most Lowcountry tourists never get the opportunity to experience. Come, relax, and stay a few days or for a while; our retreat is yours.
