This secluded, forested, equestrian, hunting and fishing property is located on 70 private acres surrounded by thousands of acres of state owned land, the Rudolf-Bennitt Conservation Area.
The home/garage was built by Morton Builders in 2008 and includes many upgrades and finishes. The beautiful kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, etc. It is on city water with a caretaker nearby should you need assistance with anything.
The pasture by the house has horse-safe, smooth-wire fencing and a water spigot is in the pasture. There is a horse-safe barn-type shelter with lights and is open at either end. A hitching rail is provided under one of the large, old oaks at the garage end. Saddle racks in the garage can be used as well as bridle holders. Bring your own hay.
Sit on the large, covered porches and listen to the whip-poor-wills and coyotes! Hunting on the property is not allowed but the Conservation Area (C.A.) land allows hunting; fishing at the 48+ acre stocked Bennitt lake is a great time.
You can golf at the nearby 'Windmill Golfcourse' which is on Rt. B near Clark. It is an 18-hole public course with carts for rent. The Amish are very well-known for their craftsmanship and you will be in the heart of it here. A map is provided at the cottage for your convenience and shopping experience with the Amish.
If you like to Antique you are in luck! Go to Centralia or Sturgeon for a quaint look around at the antique shops there. While in Centralia be sure to stop at the AB Chance Historic Home and Gardens. Just ask locals for directions. It is beautiful!
Also in Centralia is an historic Civil War site where 'Bloody Bill Anderson' killed many Union soldiers.
If you want to attract more birds to the house be sure to bring a bag of seed for the lovely feeder located outside and you can sit in the house and birdwatch! (Squirrels too.)

Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: Hi! My name is Donna and I am a Missouri girl by birth and then a Montana girl by 'accident'. (I went to Bozeman, MT for a visit and stayed there for 20 years!) We recently moved back to Columbia, Missouri in 2011. We bought 'Twin Oaks' a few years ago when we were in Montana and started it on VRBO. It has been so well received by all, that we have kept it in the program. MT has mountains but only MO has the oak/hickory forests and wildlife that I love so well. I have a BS in Wildlife Biology from MO so I truly love everything about our home here. I got my MS in Bozeman in Land Rehabilitation and so my connection with the land runs deep. My husband and I feel that this MO property is very special and beautiful. He loves the big trees and green forest. It is a place we go to 'recharge our batteries' through nature!
Why the Owner Chose Columbia: We chose this location because it is: 1) Beautiful land with rolling MO hills like you usually only find in the Ozarks; 2) It is surrounded by 3,500+ acres of Conservation Area land so the wildlife is abundant; 3) It is equestrian friendly property! Trails, barn, pasture; and 4) MO is home and close to friends and family.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: From the porch you can hear the whip-poor-wills and coyotes, see the wild turkeys, deer, many song birds, and at night see thousands of lightening bugs. You see and hear quail, squirrels, fox, raccoons, etc. You can drive or ride a few miles and fish at a the large (48 ac.), stocked lake. You can ride your horse for miles and miles on improved trails through the woods and fields. If we wanted to we could hunt throughout the C.A. as well as our property. The covered porches are great gathering places for friends, food and fun. I also like to antique in nearby Harrisburg and along Hwy. 63N near the Sturgeon exit and at the little towns all around. We have a neighbor who brings his wagon team over and takes us and the kids for a ride! We have great neighbors who are good people.
