Lopez Island house description

This is a gated, private 35-acre country estate on beautiful Lopez Island in Washington's San Juan archipelago. The house has two bedrooms, two baths, 11-foot vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom and main room, and a separate poolhouse with lap pool and hot tub.

The property is diverse and includes extensive formal manicured botanical gardens, certified organic vegetable gardens and orchards, pastures, ponds, rocky outcroppings, wild forests, large lawns, and West-facing water views toward Victoria and Cattle Pass lighthouse. From this hilltop vantage-point, you can enjoy the sun rising over the forest and the sun setting over the sea.

The home is quietly elegant: the morning fire in the breakfast room, the fluffy bathrobe beside the clawfoot tub, the easy comfort of the gourmet kitchen, the remarkable peace of a private 35 acre estate. A sense of place is the hallmark here. The buildings have been kept small in scale to blend seamlessly into the landscape. The property can accommodate one or two couples, or one or two small families. On a warm summer's morning you can pick a handful of organic raspberries for your granola or spend quiet moments in the meditation garden. As your day unfolds you may want to swim in the lap pool, peddle a few miles in the countryside, enjoy a latte, fresh croissant and a copy of the New York Times in Lopez Village or plan a ferry ride to one of the neighboring islands.

                  Location

Lopez Island is about 30 square miles with approximately 2200 residents (Manhattan Island is 23 square miles with 1,626,000 residents). Lopez Island is the location of two designated National Monument Sites (http://wilderness.org/blog/top-hikes-washingtons-san-juan-islands-your-newest-national-monument) and is part of the National Scenic Byways. It is also part of a 400-island archipelago, yet within 45 minutes of metropolitan Seattle and Puget Sound, by float plane, or by car via state ferry system. The island has an award-winning winery and vineyard, tennis courts and golf course, and a picturesque waterfront village with art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops and bakery, grocery stores, pharmacy, medical clinic, performing arts center, fitness center, healing arts center; with several public parks and two marinas. Miles of beaches are available for hiking and exploring on the island; Back Roads chooses this island as one of its world wide destinations for bicycling, and it is renowned for kayaking, boating and fishing. The charming library is one of the most used in the state and is in a historic building, one of the town's most photographed sites. May-September, a Farmer's Market is held every Saturday and the island is known for its vibrant local food movement, with wood fired oven breads available, one of the state's only certified organic berry farms, and a horse-drawn produce farm offering local meats and vegetables at a year-round self service farm stand; a picturesque historic farm with pristine organic goat dairy offers artisanal cheeses. A productive shellfish farm provides fresh oysters and clams for Seattle area and local restaurants and its facility is open to the public for purchase of fresh shellfish and tours. The local Community Shakespeare Company has annual performances in the Autumn and the winery hosts an outdoor Shakespeare performance in Summer. Musical performances are held at several venues and include blue-grass, reggae, fusion, jazz, chamber ensemble, classical and ethnic music. Charter flights are readily available for transportation or scenic tours. While the island offers an astonishing variety of amenities and services, it remains a tranquil, unhurried and haven of quiet sophistication, blended with a spirit of independence and surrounded by the beauty of Nature.

About: We have spent countless hours meticulously preparing for our guests what we seek when we travel – a home away from home that is beautifully furnished, spacious, clean — qualities of a fine hotel; with the convenience of a private home, fully equipped and functional, yet free of the personal items of the owner. We have created what we cannot find anywhere else in our travels. We are pleased to be opening our homes and sharing our lifestyle with others while designating a portion of the revenue for philanthropy. It makes sense to us that we can use some of the income from our homes to fund projects that we believe in, such as school gardens and sustainable farming. Why Lopez Island:
The San Juan Islands are known as one of the most scenic, relaxing vacation destinations in the country. Just 45 minutes north of Seattle by charter float plane, the cluster of 174 islands dotting the straits between Washington state and Canada are stunning in their natural beauty. Take a day or two to reset your internal clock. Soon, you'll be on 'island time,' leaving your cares behind. Bicycling, hiking, and endless beach walks are favorites of the locals. Or choose a full-day paddle by kayak, hike 80 wind-swept acres at Iceberg Point, hire a boat for salmon fishing, or book passage on a whale watching cruise. The island art scene is in full bloom. Let us know if you'd like a personal tour of private working galleries: glass blowing studio, oil painting gallery, sculpture garden, fiber arts, quilting and weaving studios, writers' workshops and more. Reiki, massage and private yoga sessions are easily arranged. The island's culinary scene is small but sophisticated with a handful of restaurants offering everything from fish tacos, burgers and fries to fresh Frasier River salmon, Dunginess crab and filet mignon. Enjoy a four-course meal at the waterfront Bay Cafe. Step into Holly B's bakery for a mouthwatering pastry. Vortex Natural Foods and Juice Bar is known for using local, organic ingredients on its delicious whole foods menu or give a call to Vita's for her creative, sumptuous take-out menu. If you'd like to see more of the region, a ferry ride to the quaint waterfront towns of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island or Eastsound on Orcas Island makes a lovely day out. Seattle, and both Victoria and Vancouver Island, Canada are easy overnight destinations by ferry, car or float plane. Or take a breathtaking day hike up snowcapped Mt. Baker where the wildflower meadows and rushing rivers are some of the most spectacular in the Northwest.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
From the moment the gates gracefully swing wide at your approach, you'll feel the serenity, simplicity and harmony of this property begin to work its magic. Enjoy the San Juan islands and the ability to wander in wild meadows and cool deep woodlands, stroll through productive orchards and experience fresh estate grown produce, sit quietly in well tended formal gardens, gaze out over mountain views, ocean vistas and walk wide pebble beaches; all amidst fresh air, solitude, and splendor - this is what we offer to you.
