Paradise in the Bug Shack!

We had a pleasant stay at the Bug Shack! We were so impressed at how neat and clean the house was. Our family loved the view from the porch overlooking the canal. We had everything we needed to spend a week in paradise! During the week our kids enjoyed swimming in the pool and exploring the resort. It was convienent having a community store so close for those odds and ends we forgot or needed. We were only about 30 minutes from key west! During our stay we visited Bahia Honda State Park only minutes away and went swimming and snorkeling. We also took a day trip to Islamorada to the Theater by the Sea...fantastic..Kids loved the encounters with the dolphin, sea lions, and parrots. The weather was beautiful, which added to our trip! We look forward to coming back soon. Thank you Frank for all of the wonderful info you gave prior to our trip and for your prompt responses to our e-mails.

the perfect getaway! the pool is great...and if it weren't for Hurricane Sandy - our week would have been a perfect 5! Amentities were just as described, clean, convenient to Key West. We enjoyed a week membership to Pirate Wellness Center. Would definitely stay again - thanks so much.

In 43 years of going to the Florida Keys we would say this was the best place to stay and take a boat. Everyone was helpful and friendly. The boat ramp was one of the best. Easy to launch and take out. Kept boat right by the Bug Shack. Deep water. Good place to keep trailer and extra car. The Bug Shack was well appointed and clean. Very good value. This is definitely where we will go again. Thanks for making this a wonderful vacation

My husband and I enjoyed our week's stay in The Bug Shack. The house had all the needed amenities, plus a set of bikes and a canoe. Only 20 miles from Key West, which we visited 4 times during our week. The snorkeling was great at Looe Key Reef but the fishing for my husband was a little off due to the previous weeks weather and wind. We enjoyed the breezes coming through the house. The staff at Venture Out were quite helpful and a pleasure to do business with. We can't wait to return! If you go to Key West, you have got to try the Fish Tacos at Garbo's Grill. It is a "food truck" a block off Duval and WOW, was the tacos and burgers fabulous...Now to try and make them at home?!

We (family of four with kids aged 11 and 9 plus grandpa and grandma ) spent wonderful days there at the Bug Shack. Even without having a big boat we could do so many things. The location is perfect. We enjoyed going to the beach at Bahia Honda and visiting Key West among other places. The recreation center with a pool and a little library with internet was also a nice surprise. We really felt at home there and we will definitely recommend your place as a nice and relaxed vacation spot.

We stayed here for 4 nights in December with a rented boat as well. The place is comfortable, not super luxury but also not decorated with grandma's furniture. We drove into key west 2 of the 4 nights and for us found the distance to be close enough to enjoy the drive. It is the boat slip that was the real benefit of the place, was great to have the boat moored just outside our door, we spent 2 days bombing around the keys, dolphins dancing in our boats wake for added bonus. We are low maintenance travelers, the bug shack is as advertised and a great home base for anyone planning to spend their days on the water. Frank was on the ball, there was water main work in the area on one of the days we stayed there, Frank emailed right away to ensure we were aware ( it was no issue as we were out and about while the work was completed).

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

My wife and I planned our 5 year anniversary for a long weekend trip with friends to the Keys and when we saw “The Bug Shack” on Facebook, we knew this place was a must. We didn’t know (at first) this weekend was Fantasy Fest in Key West, but this only added to the excitement of the weekend. Our first impression of The Bug Shack was delight with its wonderful position at the end of a quiet, deep water canal right on the cusp of the coastal waterway. Perfect for nearly any size boat! We didn’t tow our boat down because of the weather forecast and BOY WERE THEY WRONG. We had nearly perfect weather the whole time and could have toured the islands with ease… We found The Bug Shack to be very well-kept with spacious and comfortable amenities. This spot is located in a secured vacation community with a manned gate to regulate who comes and goes. We felt very secure with these added features! From the balcony, we all enjoyed coffee and conversation with picturesque sunrises every morning of the trip. Our goal for the weekend was to relax and enjoy our company with some exploring, diving, fishing, and great eats. We found ourselves lobster diving and spear fishing during the day, and grilling in the evening. With such a short drive to Key West, we visited some of their local hot-spots during Fantasy Fest (additional review on its own!!). We found a few local restaurants within a short drive that offered some fantastic dishes. Also a short drive, we toured the State Park at Bahia Honda Key. For a few bucks for the whole car, this was an interesting part of the trip to walk the old original bridge. They have a swimming area and great beach accesses with pavilions to picnic and hang out. The vacation community offers a large pool for visitors, a gas-marina for the boaters and many other amenities. We more than surpassed our goal for the trip to The Bug Shack and can’t wait to book our next vacation!!! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS AS A VALUABLE AND SAFE VACATION SPOT! Fishermans Paradise

We stayed at Franks Place for 8 nights, and as a Fisherman i would have to say this is the place to be. The house was clean, and well stocked with everything you need to cook and drink. Having the boat docked behind the unit is a huge plus. The Venture out complex is nice, and centrally located in the lower keys. They have a well stocked store, bait, ice, fuel, beer and wine. We will return soon, thanks again to Frank for letting us stay at your property, we really enjoyed ourselves.

My wife and I enjoyed a week at the bug shack 2 weeks into regular lobster season ( mid Aug ). Great access to both the Atlantic and Gulf waters, marina for fuel and supplies, boat ramp, and private swimming area. We found limits on lobsters within 5 miles of the house and Mahi within 10 miles! Everything you need for a perfect Keys getaway is at the bug shack. Excellent! Matt

I had the pleasure of staying at the Bug Shack with my family! We absolutely loved it! The house was so clean and fully equipped with anything and everything that we needed! Hi Frank! Sorry it has taken me so long to review our stay! Just wanted to say that we loved staying in the Bug Shack! The place was awesome and had everything we needed. Pulled the boat right up to the bulkhead and headed out to the reef for some awesome snorkeling. The kitchen was perfect and we got to cook some great fresh seafood meals. The Square Grouper was excellent also, thanks for the recommendation. Thank you for being so easy to work with! We really appreciated everything and can't wait to stay at the Bug Shack again!

Tranquil accomodations for busy days!

The Bug Shack provided us with the tranquil and convenient accomodations we were looking for in the Keys. The house was clean, neatly furnished and well stocked with appliances and linens. Although we discovered a lot of great Keys restuarants, we grilled out and cooked and found everything we needed in the rental. Usually rentals and hotels have terrible mattresses but these beds were very comfortable (which we appreciated after long days in the sun and water!). We especially enjoyed sitting on the patio each morning and evening enjoying the breeze and the beautiful view of the water. We also enjoyed the sunrises from both the patio and the tiki hut at the resort. The Venture Out Resort was also very clean and it was very convenient to launch our jetskiis from their boat ramp. We liked the location on Cudjoe Key as it gave us privacy and tranquility but yet was not too far to go to other beaches, Keys or activities. I would definitely recommend the Bug Shack and a stay on CudJoe key to couples or families....it really fits all ages or groups of vacationers! I can't wait to go back so I can get more hogfish tacos and chocolate dipped key lime pie bars!!!!!!!!

Great low key place to hang in the lower keys. We loved Bahia Honda and having the ability to cook for ourselves with the grill. Funky little community with friendly people but space to yourself. Also near a great restaurant--try the Square Grouper!

The bug shack is a great location to spend time with family and friends. If you like fish this house is great because you can walk out and fish the canal while grilling out and have a tropical drink. Quiet getaway that is about 20 mins away from the excitement and all the fun things to do in Key West. Would stay here again on my next trip down to the keys. One of the greatest prices for a keys rental you will find around town.

So far each time we find something different to do, because it is so centrally located. It is always so clean and neat. There is a pool, tennis and fishing right in front of the townhouse. We even trapped some lobster right outside. The people there are friendly and helpful. You have to go see the Key deer and while you are in that area go to the No Name Pub. That is the first thing we always do. FUN!!!

I have been fishing in the Florida Keys for many years and the "Bug Shack" is the place for me. Access to the Atlantic and the Gulf are easy and quick. We have done everything from snorkeling at Looe Key to offshore fishing for dolphin, sailfish, and wahoo. The accommodations are comfortable with a full kitchen to prepare our catch. The boat ramp is right there with ethanol free fuel next to the ramp. The pool and community store are convenient with bait available on site. I'll definitely be back for more.

We had a fantastic week! Our family feel in love with the Keys. Our highlight was snorkeling at Looe Key. We saw a nurse shark along with lots of beautiful fish. One of our favorite places to eat was "A Slice of Paradise" They had huge Iguanas and a man gave us pizza dough to feed them. We will take home so many great memories. Thanks so much! Great Place!

The Bug Shack is truly a piece of paradise. By far, our best Florida Keys vacation yet. The Bug Shack feels like a home away from home. Its clean, up to date, and has all of the amenities you could ever need. Its location on the canal allows for a beautiful sunrise and easy access to open water. The deck which overlooks the crystal clear canal is a perfect place to enjoy dinner and drinks after a long day on the water. I would stay at The Bug Shack again and again. Whether your looking for a week of quiet relaxation or a week of fishing, snorkeling, diving, swimming and boating, The Bug Shack is the perfect place to enjoy it. The central location to Bahia Honda State Park and Key West is perfect. I've stayed at numerous units in Venture Out, but this one is the the first one I would return to year after year. Frank (homeowner) is always helpful and quick to respond to emails and questions. This unit cant be topped.

Awesome vacation. Great recommendations for near by restaurants, such as Square Grouper and the famous No Name Pub. Close to Key West to visit often. It's a short boat ride to the best reefs in the world. Looe Key is breathless! Thank you Michael for being so easy to work with and helping make memories for our family. We will be back!

We recently stayed at the "Bug Shack" and loved it! We had all of the comforts of home there. Super nice and well kept place. The drive into Key West is beautiful from Cudjoe Key. Nice to be so close to Key West but far away enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of Venture Out Resort. Really convenient to have our boat at the house and be able to take off for an afternoon ride or an early morning fishing trip right from the doorstep! We give 2 thumbs up for the "Bug Shack" and will be back!

Thanks you so much for the use of your "Keys to Happiness." The sunrises and sunsets calmed all the frazzled nerves. We had a lizard, as in Large, striped tail- come hang out with us down stairs one day. Supposedly there was a 6 ft. Great White Shark sighting at the marina...it was April Fools day so the validity is questionable. All in all we had a grand time and hope to come back. God bless you abundantly.

We so enjoyed staying in this great house! Quiet, friendly neighbors and a wonderful south-east exposure. Beds are extrememely comfortable and all kitchen amenitites work! Venture Out is very organized, secure with countless things to do but the best is the big pool at just the right temperature. We had a great time and look forward to our return!

Down from the snowy Rockies to here- sea level, sunshine, shrimp. Loved seeing the key deer, Butterfly conservatory and the dolphins & porpoises. Enjoyed catching lots of "little bitty" fish- about half the size of a Montana trout. We let them little ones go back to their mamas and ate the big ones! Thanks for the use of your lovely place.

I've stayed at the "Bug Shack" several times now and I just can't get enough! It's so close to Key West but far enough away so you can relax without all the crowds. I can party when I want or lay quietly by the pool or ocean. We really enjoy that we can bring our boat and dock it right at the house. Then we can either take it out on the Atlantic or Gulf sides. There's nothing like eating fresh caught dolphin or lobster after a day in the sun fishing, snorkeling, or diving. It is also nice staying where we had our own washer/dryer as well as kitchen and grill. Those are the things I usually miss when I stay in a hotel. I have loved staying here and I know we will be back many times!

Well, it's our last night here. We will be heading back to Oviedo and Geneva tomorrow. It was great to be able to stay here. Thank you for opening your home to us. We had a great time in Key West. We climbed up the Light House, did Hemmingwasy's home, took a cruise on a glass bottom boat and saw the sunset. We laid on the beach and of course did all the shops on Duval St. Quite a visit.

We found the "Bug Shack" to have everything you need when visiting the keys. Close enough to visit Key West when you want but just far enough away to relax and enjoy the easy life. Fishing offshore is within minutes and fishing the gulfside or chasing lobster is just minutes the other way. Very convenient and the property has it's own boat ramp, gas and baitshop. The pool was very refreshing and quite big so you don't feel crowded and the kids can play without bothering others. We have stayed here a couple of times and definitely plan to return. Good times.

We've had a great time. A much needed vacation. We have a 4 month old and the last couple of months have been exhausting! This warm weather (we live in Cincinniti) is healing. I also got to spend time with my sister and her boyfriend. We didn't catch any fish or lobster so I guess we will have to come back. We can't thank you enough. P.S. I had a little late night visiter from a ghostly little girl with brown hair in the left bedroom-weird!

Hello everyone. We have stayed at Venture Out about 8 or 9 times. By far this is the best house yet. Great stay.

We had a great vacation. This is our second time in the Keys. Last year we stayed in Marathon. We decided to move farther south to be closer to Key West and Bahia Honda. This was the perfect spot to do just that. We loved your house and hope to come back.

What a great vacation. Weather was not so great (turned windy & chilly) but still had a great time. Scootered through Key West and found a great place to eat, Hogfish Bar & Grille. Close to shrimp boats. Just go before 10pm- they ran out of Hogfish. Got to fish one am but really windy. We will definately do this again. Thanks for some great times.

Hi! We usually goto Anna Maria, Fl in the summer. Decided to fork out more money to get away from the Chicago weather! So glad we did. I think we are skipping the summer vacation and just commin here for the winter 2 weeks! Weather was great (especially since we got lots of snow while we were here :)!) My kids loved it too! Thanks for the great house, we plan on commin back and staying here again.
