Antica Casa Gotuzzo belongs since generations to a family of shipbuilders and is a beautiful 17th century home on the boulevard of Chiavari. "Chiavari" means " keys to the valleys" refecting its strategic position controlling the 4 valleys which converge into it, the old town with its characteristically narrow porticoed streets offers good shopping and good restaurants, every 2nd weekend there is a famous antique market.

Chiavari is in the bay of Tigullio, which stretches from Mount Portofino( 20 km) to Sestri Levante. It is east of Genoa (40km) and an ideally located to visit the Cinque Terre,where the mountains overhanging the sea, can reach heights of 800 m. "Cinque Terre" five "lands" are scribed into a wedge of land between hills and the water. so tight is the road to connect the five, leaving only the railroad or the ferry or foot to take you from one to the next.This last option gives you really the feel for the individual personalities of the villages, take the narrow dirt trail that links them. The atmosphere in home " Antica Casa Gotuzzo takes you back to the 1800s, when large ocean-sailing vessels were built in what is now the piazza in front of the house. Part of the house was built in 1652, as a look-out post for pirates! the apartment is on the first floor has an elevator , it is perfectly furnished with both family antiques and modern pieces , it has a very spacious terrace with sea view , wonderful for sunbathing and outside dining .

Immediately across the road of Antica Casa Gotuzzo lays the mediterrean sea, an invitation for an early morning dive! and at walking distance is the pleasure harbour from where boattrips are organised both to Portofino and the Cinque Terre.

Winter is not really winter in Liguria and springtime starts in February, when the flowers come out and the mimosa trees colour the hills and gardens yellow. The climate is very temperate and even on Christmas day you may have your meal on a terrace outside, and watch the locals showing off their fur-coats( once a year!) when you are in a light jacket. Liguria has an ideal climate for the cultivation of grapes, lemon and olives. The food and wines are excellent and local dishes such as" pesto", " Trenette" and " focaccia" are a must.
