Villa Tipsy Gecko is a magnificent large very open two story private waterfront beach house located directly on the Caribbean Sea in Placencia, Belize. Outstanding features radiate luxury and beauty throughout this exquisite 4+ Bedroom, 4.5 Bath residence. (Private study can be used as 5th bedroom for large groups)
Construction of the home was completed in late 2008. Home is meticulously maintained by full time onsite staff and very active owners that continue to invest in property and make improvements like the just finished (November 2012) private pool on beach and large private covered ocean pier with bar (added last year).
The main home is two stories consisting of over 4,000 sq ft of living area and covered patios directly over looking a private beach, private covered pier and the ocean. A great view over the lagoon and the Mayan Mountains can also be had from upstairs living area and from the street side covered deck located on the front side of home.
Upstairs in the home you will find two master bedrooms suites each directly over looking the ocean that provide breathtaking views. Each master suite includedes a large private bathroom, balcony and huge walk in showers. A large living area and full size walk around bar, complete with 50' flat screen TV and private covered balcony are located between the two master bedrooms making an ideal setting for two couples to use the home at the same time. A private office, which can also be used as a bedroom, is also located upstairs.
The two remaining bedrooms are located on the first floor, each with its own private bath.
Cook dinner on the large outside gas grill and enjoy a local drink while relaxing under the fans on the large covered patio steps from the ocean. After dinner enjoy a quiet private walk on the beach with no one around or retire upstairs to enjoy a drink at the large full walk around bar, complete with 50' flat screen TV, or sit on the adjacent large covered 2nd floor balcony.
Located just 1 mile south from the Placencia Hotel and 1 mile north of Maya Beach. The home is uniquely located in upscale area that provides for a very private beach setting, yet it is close to fine dining and other upscale resorts in an exclusive section of Placencia, just 10 minutes from Placencia Village and air strip.

We shared the house with another family and had 4 adults and 3 children between ages 10-14. The house itself is beautiful and well designed for two families in that it has two master bedrooms and lots of living space. We spent most of our time outside, and spent the evenings out on the dock. It's often windy at night so bring a sweater or windshirt. The new pool is tremendous and gave us adults a good place to hang out. The children prefered the ocean and pulling various items from the sea (sand dollars, conch shells, etc. ). The jungle tour was great (with Percy obviously), as was the snorkeling. We enjoyed the ziplining through the jungle the most (Mama Noots). One thing to remember is that they move at a different pace than we do in the States. So if you're wanting to take a tour - plan at least two days ahead. Mabell really keeps the place clean. She does the laundry every day so you don't need to bring a lot of clothes. I only brought a carry on and was way over packed. Even when you go to dinner the dress is shorts and t-shirt. This is the first time I ever returned from a vacation with my bag full of clean clothes. There are some very good resturants nearby (Maya Beach/Mangos) as well as in the village. With a group of 7 we had to take a taxi to the village as two golf cart trips would have taken way too long. If your a wine drinker pick it up upon arrival in Belize City at the duty free as that's about the best cost and selection you'll find. If you're a beer drinker - you'll have to stomach the Beliken beer because that's all they sell (keep it as cold as you can to knock down the taste). However, we were able to drink plenty of both! If you love beef, then you'll have to smuggle your own steaks into the country. A few of the resturants have hamburgers, but that's really it. If you love fish then you're really in luck. The grocery stores are very basic, but I found a nice deli at Robert's Grove where you could get lunch meat and kilbasi. Those are really tips, as oppossed to a review. As a review - we all had a fantastic time. I can't think of a more relaxing vacation at a more beautiful house. David & Kathy were increadibly helpful in setting up the trip. Tell every establishment you go to that you're staying at the Tipsy Gecko. They all seem to know David and most give you discounts or are quick to find you a table. LOVED IT!!!!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We had a great week at the Tipsy Gekko. The house was very comfortable and the owners have pretty much thought of everything so you can have a good vacation. You even get a big container of water to start. We arrived and the caretakers had done a little requested grocery shopping for us so we didn't have to go out until after breakfast the next day. The hammocks on the pier were used every day as well as the kayak and the pool and 4 person golf cart (that fit 5 of us). The best was Mabel who comes and cleans every day and does your laundry. The suggestions were all good but Percy the tour guide for the Monkey river now charges $80 a person not $50 and it's well worth the price. The owners are very good at answering all your questions promptly. For those of you that would like to tour farther than Placencia I would suggest renting a car for a couple of days. Also if you're going down as couples the 2 upstairs rooms are the nicer ones and there is one downstairs that has a full bed and no chest of drawers so I think you could hardly split it evenly. We are only sorry we couldn't stay longer!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Wonderful vacation home. The whole family found exciting adventures and lazy days, as wanted!! Something for everyone all the time. Swmimming/snorkelling and kayaking from the house, fishing from the pier at the house or in the lagoon. Dolphin and manatee spotting and lots and lots of lovely 'finds' on a beach walk. The on site staff are very welcoming and helpful. The home and property are exceptionally well maintained and we wanted for nothing. The owners were more than helpful when we were booking and planning our trip. Lots of useful information. We found no end of day trips that can be booked. The best included snorkelling/diving/fishing with Splash, jungle trip, horse riding and tours also through Patti and Ralph at Splash..very helpful. Of course, the much recommended Tutti Frutti for gelato is truly a 'must do'. We look forward to visiting again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children.

Can I come back? Everything was superb! Having the caretaker meet you at the plane, drive you to the house...and what a house !!! Then to meet the caretaker's wife/housekeeper/laundry person also a local contact with great English, we couldn't have had the acclamation any better! The grounds were perfectly maintained, the house in great shape, kayaks, golf cart at your disposal, a wonderful binder full of ideas of where to go, whom to contact, restaurant menus and reviews, made our decisions for 9 adults much easier. We didn't have that "I don't know, what do you want to do?" it was more of "which day do you want to ....?" It was very helpful having the phone available as well for calling US if needed for free. You have to arrange for the waterfall visit! well worth the call. We all want to come back for our 2nd annual trip :) Only recommendation: one bedroom has little space for clothes...need to be creative / share with others.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Villa Tipsy Gecko was beautiful!!! It was exactly what we expected and comfortably fit all 10 of us. It was so nice for us all to stay in the same place, allowing us to cook together and spend more time as a group. The house is in the perfect location on the Peninsula with gorgeous views of the Caribbean and close to downtown. Every morning I woke up to the sun rising over the water... truly paradise. I highly recommend staying here and hope to stay here next time I visit. If you have a big group, consider also renting their house across the street. We had a chance to take a tour in case we need to rent both houses for our next trip and it too is gorgeous! The owners were very accommodating before, during and after our stay. Both the owners and Javier and Mabelle, went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we could ever need while in Belize, making us feel at home.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We traveled with 10 people (4 adults, 1 teenager, 2 ten y/o's, 1 seven y/o, and 1five y/o. Everyone said the Typsy Gecko was a perfect place to stay. Javier and Mabelle (live in caretakers) go above and beyond their job descriptions. Their goal is to provide you with your perfect stay. The house itself is perfect, beautiful, safe, comfortable, and gave us all space to enjoy each others company, but enough room to have alone time. The yard/pier is post card worthy. My husband's favorite spot was the hammock on the pier. The ocean water was wonderful. The kids were swimming at 6am amd were not freezing(we are from North Idaho, so this is an annomoly for us). Do take enormouse amounts of sun screen! Take many different forms, stick, spray, lotion. Take different SPFS. I did not take enough and it is not readily found in the stores. My family did not burn as bad as the other family but i took myself anf te kids tsnning a few times before our vacation. I know not a politically correct decision, but it was Alot better thsn them gettting second degree burns and burning throug there clothes. Do take bug spray (i took way more than needed. Should have taken about four bottles for ten of us.) The mosquitos get bad after it rains. It is still warm out when it rains. Plan minimum 90 minutes for any meal. Gasoline is not readily found either. Gas stations are few and far between, but we found grocery stores have gasoline for sale by hand if you stop and ask. Most everybody is friendly and accomodating. Do take plenty of cash with you. The larger establishments take credit cards but keep in mind you credit card company will charge a fee. And there are two ATMS in Placencia, but our banks charged fees and limited how much we could take out per day. So if you are paying a tour in cash you might not be able to take out enoug cash to pay for it. G rocery store was more expensive than the States. The grocery stores do not stock produce or if they have it, it is nasty. Buy your produce from trucks around in the am(i could not figure out a svhedule or a pattern). Only buy what you will use in 1-2days. It is ripe and spoils FAST. The best meat we got was from a truck parked in the grocery store parjing lot, selling beef and pork frim a cooler in the back (weird I know). Do slow down for speed humps! Do take whatever first aid type items you think you might need, again, not readily available. All in all....we loved this vacation. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this beautiful home and in Belize. The pictures posted and shared by the owner 100% reflect what this home is really like. It is very clean and well cared for. We had 7 adults in our group and the home suited our needs very well. Both the owner and the on-site care takers were extremely helpful in providing information we needed in preparation and for day to day activities. There are fabulous restaurants nearby. Some of our favorites; Maya Beach Bistro, Wendy's, Habeneros, Rum Fish, Mangos, Barefoot Bar. The pool at the nearby resort is beautiful if you want a change of scenery. We spent most of our time on the amazing beach and dock. We also made use of the on-sight bicycles, golf carts and kayaks. We loved the laid back Belizian style and the wonderful culture. We did some diving, snorkeling and jungle hikes. There is a lot to see and do plus plenty of ways to relax with a good book. We all enjoyed this country and would like to return. If and when we do, we would most definitely rent this house again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The house was all it appeared to be and more. Our stay was comfortable and we had everything we needed or wanted. The onsite caretakers are FABULOUS and kept a watchful eye on the place and on us, but were never intrusive. They take very good care of the property and tended to our every request with professionalism. We tried not to burden them with much, but whatever we needed they were more than glad to assist. We enjoyed scuba diving, snorkeling, tour of Monkey River, Mayan ruin exploration, hanging under the palapa, dining and shopping in Placencia and more. Thanks so much for your help in making this a memorable holiday vacation!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I'm very late in my review, as we stayed here in February of this year ('11). We have vacationed in the Placencia area 5 times in the past 10 years and this is the best place there is! We had a small family reunion with ages 2 to 70... every single person had an amazing time and most of it could be attributed to this amazing house, it's location, and the owners. Although we did do several excursions (inland and out on the water), we found that we didn't need to leave the house very much to have a wonderful time. This home has it all, especially with the great location- on a private beach with an awesome pier. The owners have thought of every amenity and are so kind to share all of it. We hope to return many more times! Thank you!! What a great house! Its luxury right on the beach and the dock out into the ocean complete with tiki bar is AMAZING! Had a great yoga class out there in the morning and cocktails and cigars as night. The service was fantastic as was the fly-fishing for bonefish (7 islands and not one other boat!). About the owner: Property owned by familiy from Texas that built home and use it frequently. Home was designed with two master suites upstairs, a full large walk around bar and entertainment area and covered outside balcony. Specifically designed so two or more families with kids can spread out and enjoy their stay in a private beach setting and enjoy all Belize has to offer. On site staff are a very friendly young Mayan couple that speak great english and make you feel at home. They are extremely trust worthy and guest can arrange for wife to baby sit, if they want to leave smaller children to go diving or enjoy a great meal out.
Why the Owner Chose Placencia Village:
Home is located in heart of some of the best saltwater fly fishing in the world as well as world class diving and snorkeling on the 2nd largest coral reef system in the world. The now fully paved 26 mile Placencia road makes getting on and off the peninsula by car a much more enjoyable and faster experience, thus making access to the rain forest, Mayan ruins, cave tubing and other attractions in the jungle easily accessible.
