Our stay in La Chevalerie
Writing to thank you for our stay in the cottage We enjoyed our week's stay in the cottage. Bléré, isn't a tourist hot-spot but is none the worse for that - it is actually a rather pleasant small town and turned out to be very conveniently located. Chenonceaux and Amboise are 10mins away and Loches, an interesting old town, is a little more distant, but well worth visiting, particularly on market day. The new A85 motorway running East/West, just to the South of Bléré, now makes Tours and chateaux such as Villandry and Azay-le-Rideau + quite a few more on that far side of the city, very easy to visit. It was useful to have Dominique's restaurant recommendations and we enjoyed the somewhat upmarket La Boulaye a few miles away (a somewhat complicated menu and they only do set meals, but these are very good and not overpriced - when we were there it wasn't open Mondays and Tuesdays - see their entertaining website http://laboulaye.fr/ ). Also liked the simple but very pleasant La Sarrazin créperie, just round the corner from the cottage . The nearby Logis menu, in the same price bracket as La Boulaye, looks interesting and Dominique said that it is good, but we didn't actually go there. We did however buy some award winning wines from the local cave - Domaine de la Grange. I'm something of a railway enthusiast, but wasn't anticipating any preserved railways around here. After a few days and beginning to feel withdrawal symptoms, I noticed in the Michelin Green Guide of the Area, that there are actually 7 Chemins de Fer Touristique in the Loire region, though at least a couple - Sarthe and Pithiviers are some distance away. We also picked up a leaflet from the Bléré tourist office about another line, the 'Du Bas Berry', not mentioned in the green guide. It turned out to be a delightful rural line, about 50mins away by car, based at Ecueille. We missed the last steam train of the year, due to taking a wrong turning, but managed to see the train at the other end and on its return. This railway is one of the few examples left, of what was once a large network of metre gauge narrow gauge lines all over France (and indeed there were similar networks over much of Europe). Excellent location for chateau visits
Excellent location for chateau visits
Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children age 6 and 11) stayed in La Chevalerie for 5 nights in June 2013. We were met by Dominique at the door, and she was very helpful with explanations and suggestions. The cottage suited us well, and had most things we needed, such as washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, and all necessary utensils. In some ways the property is a bit quirky, but that added to the fun. The photos on the website represented it well. Blere is a good town as a base for exploring the region. It has a few restaurants, a good supermarket. The cottage was quiet, yet right in the middle of town. Our hosts (nect door) were accommodating, and even allowed us to use their computer when we had trouble with ours. Inside la Chevalerie is a steep staircase, which might not suit elderly people. Having 2 bathrooms was a real plus. Overall I would recommend staying there for a family like ours exploring chateau country. Also, Dominique speakes very good English.

Our stay in this house has been very good. After each busy day of visiting chateaux and wandering through medieval towns it was nice to come "home" and relax knowing we had hot water and comfy beds. Our favourite chateaux were Chenonceau, Azay le Rideau and Cheverny. Thank you Dominique for excellent restaurant recommandations: la Doucette and la Sarrasine, and wine tasting at Bruno's Domaine de la Grange. Bléré is a pretty little town and central to all wanted to do. Thank you John, Penny, Tom and Heather from Canada

Very comfortable and quaint
Very comfortable and quaint
Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids, aged 13 and 15) stayed at La Chevalerie for 5 nights on our recent holiday in France. The property was very comfortable, with 2 good sized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and a spacious living area, although the kitchen was quite small. The location was fantastic - very central to many sights in the Loire Valley, and we spent a lovely day riding bikes around Blere and to Chateaux de Chenonceau. We also swam in the local public pool, a short walk from La Chevalerie. There was a good boulangerie nearby as well as a couple of supermarches in walking distance as well. The only parking for this property is on the street, but it was not difficult to find a spot each day. La Chevalerie is a nice, private, quiet place to stay that is recommended for anyone exploring the Loire Valley.

What a delightful surprise to find not only the charm of a historic Carriage House AND modern comfort as well. It's located in the center of Blere a charming historic town, yet totally private with it's own courtyard. My husband and I enjoyed the luxury of a very spacious house and warm furnishings. A family could easily enjoy a good measure of privacy here with room to play. We'd enthusiastically recommend this listing for numerous reasons. We loved the house, the historic town, our hosts, numerous, delicious restaurants, and proximity to most chateaux, Chenonceau, the crown jewel of the Loire is very close by. The outdoor markets featured numerous stands with friendly vendors selling their local fare. We regaled in the season's new white asparagus, and scurried back to our Carriage House with the bounty of the market...roasted chicken, white asparagus, sausages, salads, wine, and cheese! oh the cheese! Fabulous! A spring lunch on our private terrace was definitely a highlight of our stay. Dominique, our charming hostess next door, was generous with her knowledge of the history of the environs and shared the secrets of out of the way places that would not otherwise be known to travelers. We felt like locals. French for a week! We're already making plans for a return visit. Thanks Dominique, for helping make our stay memorable!
