We really enjoyed our stay! We loved the location, the plentiful towels and beach cruisers. The pictures were an accurate representation of the listing. The owners were so friendly and helpful. We plan on staying here again.

Thank you so much for the wonderful accommodations at gorgeous Hanalei Bay. Vic and I were so comfortable here and Hanalei was the place to be! The beach was perfect-- surf, swimming, running, walking-- perfect! We head back to Boston today and will keep Hanalei Villa in our hearts for a lifetime. Thanks for the delicious chocolate too! Aloha!

We stayed in the Gardenia Suite from March 12-18. The house itself is very close to Hanalei beach. In fact, you can clearly see the ocean from virtually any part of the Gardenia Suite. I think the location of this property is probably its best attribute. We weren't able to visit the other two suites, but I believe they had better amenities overall based on photos. The Gardenia provided a large space that was more than enough for two people. The decor is dated (a bit of an 80s vibe to it), but nothing looks worn or in disrepair. There is no kitchen in the Gardenia, so if this is important to you, I would choose one of the other suites. The small appliances weren't really sufficient to prepare much more than a snack. There is a small (dorm style) fridge that can hold a few things. We did nothing more than have cereal and make sandwiches. We dined out for dinners. While the proximity to Hanalei beach and the town is good (you can pretty much walk everywhere), the traffic on Weke Rd. can make for a loud experience at times. Being directly across from the beach parking lot is the main reason for this. Noise wasn't awful, but it was noticeable at times. If you're looking for dead quiet, you might consider this. The bed was firm and comfortable, and the master bath was very nice. We didn't use the jetted tub, but it was large and looked like a relaxing spot. I liked the glass block shower and abundance of hot water. Some amenities that the Gardenia could use: a kitchen (the other two have this), a better TV/cable system (about half of the channels didn't come in properly -- the TV was also very old), and a better grill (it had small charcoal Weber). With just a few updates (perhaps the decor could be updated), this would be a much more desirable suite. I think the other two suites have advantages in that regard. Privacy is compromised a bit as you're basically sharing a very large house with others. There were nice considerations such as bikes to use, boogie boards, outdoor showers, beach towels, and extra sheets. Most of the price for the stay is tied to location, so keep that in mind. The Gardenia is crying out for some (even minor) improvements, but it's a solid home base. We wished that the grass trimming didn't start up at 7 a.m. our last day, but it's a minor quibble. Overall, we had a great stay on the island and the location was superb. Thanks again to Maile and family for accommodating us and being so friendly.

Owner response: Thanks Aaron for your suggestions. We put brand new flat screen tvs into all of the suites and have redecorated all of the suites as well. If you are in need of a large kitchen I would suggest renting the Gardenia and Hibiscus together, or the Plumeria and Gardenia together.

We had a wonderful stay, in this spacious, luxurious, super-convenient apartment. Right across the street from the Pavillion, you walk to the beach in under 90 seconds and you get a 360 view from the roof deck! We stayed for 9 days, and it wasn't nearly enough.

Because the house was located in the perfect location, our experience in Hanalei Bay was very convenient and enjoyable. The beach was just steps away, everything we needed from the town was in walking distance. In fact, we did not have a rental car for the whole stay. At first we were concerned that our activity would be limited. But, it wasn't. We did lots of walking, hiking, swimming, surfing and stand up paddle boarding, all of which were available right outside of the house. Also we rode everywhere in town with the bicycles provided in the house. After all we didn't miss a car at all. Also I enjoyed cooking in the big kitchen. It was such a pleasure to meet and get to know Eddie and Joanie( Maile's parents). They were so helpful and available at all times that we felt that they were like old friends. We only rented a section of the house, Hibiscus unit, this time, but we would like to go back with our family and rent the whole house. That would be a blessing. Thank you Maile, Eddie and Joanie.

We take precious memories with us of our time at your beautiful home. Everything we needed was provided. The teens enjoyed the bikes, large supply of towels, and convenient access to the beach. Having the entire home to ourselves allowed us lots of room for conversations and naps – at the same time! Mahalo Leona (Kula Maui)

We rented both units (the whole house) for our extended family, and I can't imagine a better way to enjoy Kauai. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and on vacation! Dropping our bags at the door we walked right out to the beach, which couldn't be closer. The house was beautiful and, compared with other agency-managed rentals we have stayed at, we could really feel the personal touches and that someone cared for this place. My kids called it "the castle". This was a great location for kids. In July, the water in the bay was so calm I could take the baby out in it and my 5-year-old could play safely in the waves. There is also a lifeguard station right at the beach in front of the house, which was reassuring. We walked to restaurants, shops and the natural foods store in town, so we rarely got in the car. Since we were so close to the beach we didn't have to pack up everything the kids needed for a day at the beach. We could simply walk back to the house for a shower, a snack or a nap. There's a great outdoor shower at the house and big bathtubs! My husband and brothers took surf lessons right in Hanalei and we went snorkling at Tunnels and Ke'e. We rarely left the north shore, because we'd explored the island on a previous trip and determined this to be the most amazing part of the island (if not the entire Earth). For a large group, it was really nice to have both units because when my kids woke early in the morn I could give them breakfast in the downstairs kitchen and play on the lanai and in the yard without waking everyone upstairs. The drawbacks for young children are the stairs and floors which are all tile. This is probably great for cleaning, but can make for a nasty bonk, especially if the floors get slippery. Maile referred us to a friend for baby gear rental, which was great. But not all of the stairs in the house can be guarded with a gate (in the downstairs unit you can close the door and cut off access to the stairs). The location is supreme, but consider your sensitivity to daytime and evening noise since you are right across the street from the "pavilion" where people park, bathe and access the beach, and you'll probably want to sleep with the windows open. For us, these were minor drawbacks and well worth the convenience, comfort and beauty of the place. I'd highly recommend it!
